    I got the chance to demo ride one of these this past week at Daytona bike week. I have to say I was impressed. The build quality is excellent and it comes with many things that the Japanese 4 just refuse to add in the segment. The best news is that bikes like these will ultimately force the hand of other manufacturers to be more competitive.

      You can't tell build quality from a demo ride, you have to do some work on the bike and see how it holds up over time.
      I'll be interested to see how these stand up after 50,000 miles of all year riding.

    I’ve owned one of these for 9mths in Aus - it’s brilliant. Not one single issue apart from a touchy throttle which I can easily ride around. I’ve been riding 50yrs and owned 4 x BMW 1200GS and 2 x 1250 GS. This bikes build quality is every bit as good as my GS and in fact I sold my 2021 GS1250 for $30k, bought this for $14k and put $16k back into my bank and despite being initially concerned about brand and dealer network (which is now huge) I haven’t regretted it once.

      @Shane Riches hi Shane...did you mean why did I get rid of the GS? If so..I've owned 6 of them over a period of time and i change bikes often - whilst they are a great bike they have some weaknesses. I test rode the CF Moto and found it is smaller, lighter, narrower and much better around town but just as good out of the city and its 1/3 of the price. I was very much the loudest vouce against the CF Moto in our riding group (didn't want a Chinese bike and all) and I rode one and knew within 5mins I'd buy one. Now my mate has just bought one too. Hope that helps.

The CF moto seems to have better wind protection, and possibly a better seat. plus the 800 engine is awesome!

    I have the touring version and it has only 3 weak points in my opinion. Jerky throttle in low speeds(the Jerkyness on high speed is much better after the ecu update from cfmoto), the 520 chain that stretches a lot and requires replacement at around 18000km max, and the fuel economy at around 5.2l/100km. Other bad points are the low torque in first and second gear that needs to rev more than usual to not stall, the windscreen even on high position is too low for a 5' 10" person, no traction control and the brakes feel weak and slow to react in emergency. Good: price in Australia ($14490), relaxed engine on high speeds, all tech included and extras(heated grips and seat, TFT, tubeless tyres, crashbars...), 3 years warranty, good suspension, ...

    Great review interesting bike but, I will still get the Honda transalp reasons:
    1 Base is cheaper and comes with all I need.
    2 270 degrees crank engine is better sounding.
    3 Honda reliability is much better.
    4 After market Parts availability will be much better.
    5 It Has better tech features like Bluetooth phone connectivity with on screen navigation, several power mode levels, you can turn off the TC completely for offroad etc.
    6 kerb weight of only 208kg
    7 lower seat height
    8 Fuel consumption better.
    9 Higher range.
    10 it's a Honda and will depreciate less when selling time comes.
    Also if you like other gimmicks its still better even if you add their fantastic value optional packs. Like the rally pack or touring pack.
    Ride safe

    Lovely looking bike, never owned a bike like this only naked or sports tourers, for me it's not that it's a Chinese built bike, even with a substantial warranty, I read so many issues on UA-cam related to the KTM brand and their lack of interest when things go wrong with new bikes they look at it but very often fail to address the issues ,by sorting out the problems, a good percentage are new and still under manufacturers warranty, if i was customer I would expect a better service,

      How? The cf moto Included much more standard equipment. Some you can’t even get on the Honda. Includes crash bars, luggage racks, quick shifter, fog lights, heated seats and grips. @denisg4288 Рік тому +2

      I think by premium he means build quality rather than price or marketing. Honda are proven. If you don’t believe, go on Superbike Factory, look at used bikes say 10 years old and nearly all will be the big four Japanese brands.

    @mervtaylor Рік тому +2

    I can't deny it is a very good looking machine but it is coming into a rather crowded market place so has to be good. As it stands at the moment I would choose the Transalp in this sector, I have always had faith in the Honda brand and never had any issues in my Honda ownership. On the other hand I have know some serious catastrophic failures in the KTM brand which would certainly restrain me from buying into it. I know about the warranty but that is no good when you are miles from anywhere and no dealers in the country you are in. Competition is good to keep the big boys on their toes and they have done a great job, but in the word of Peter Jones, I shan't be investing today.

    Love the look of this bike, particularly the touring version. However, I think I'd still choose the new Transalp, as it's cheaper ( £1.600 cheaper ) by what you said, which would pay for a fair amount of the goodies the 800MT comes with.The Transalp is, also, lighter at 208kg kerbweight, against 231kg for the 800MT ( mind you, after you'd fitted the crash bars and rear rack to the Transalp, I doubt there's too much difference ) Plus, I'd imagine that the 4 year warranty this bike comes with means that you have to have dealer services for all those interim and main services the 800MT requires, or it might invalidate the warranty.

    • @FrayedString
      @FrayedString Рік тому

      I don't know about the terms for the UK version as I'm in the US (where this bike is called the IBEX 800 T). For us the warranty is only 2 years parts/labor, but there are no requirement that the service be done by the dealer; just that all required maintenance is done. Generally for us that just means save all the receipts (for any parts/filters/supplies) and you're good to go. A quick read of the warranty section in the UK version of the owner's manual would probably provide the same clarity. At least then you'd know for sure rather than just guessing.

This engine has the 270 degrees features like slight whistle, lower grunt on idle, but compared to Moto Morini's 180 degrees engine (the red bike behind our host), it's engine does sound the same when revving it.
