Good point! One of my favorite watches is a beautiful Hamilton Secometer “B” from 1948. It has a gorgeous blued sweep second hand and an almost pristine dial. But it’s just too small at 30mm to wear. It sits dutifully in my watch box getting wound from time to time. For a watch almost 70 years old it keeps superior tim on par with my contemporary ETA based Hamilton Kakhis. The Movavados are sublime and top of the heap. Good content, let’s save a few of these small HEAVY hitters.T
tim fenrich Hamilton is one of the reasons a lot of us love Horology, a little trick I use to wear my 30mm is to wear a sweater that way it give the watch size and thins the wrist at the same time. Thanks for watching Tim. 😊
Beautiful watches! I think the 32mm size looks best on the average size wrist. One of my favorite watches is a Universal Geneve 842101 in stainless steel, 31mm. A bargain for $225 though it cost me the same for servicing. Still, well worth it and it looks just like the Vacheron and Audemars of the era.
Can you really compare the Movado with a real Vacheron or Patek? Like all this time, the big name always tried to market their craftsmanship, and it would be really nice to see if the beveling, dial polish, etc are really indistinguishable between the two. It'll be more informative to rather than just comparing the dial design. GREAT channel btw. Can't believe you have so little views..
The last watch you displayed was the Movado Acvatic. It has a lot more in common with the Patek than you realize. F,B. Brouget made the waterproof Taubert case for Movado and Patek Philippe. You can tell by the decagonal screwed down watch backs on both brands. Dunno if I would call it a Calatrava as it is a watch more suited to outdoor activities in harsh conditions. I collect those horned lugged beasts but prefer the Movado cal. 157 movement that has the center sweep second hand. I have examples of the Acvatic Non-Magnetic rebadged for Tiffany, Sobrano Y Cuervo and other high end jewelers of the 1930's - 1950's. The one I am missing is the gold capped version. The Movado Acvatic has an understated sophistication that really grabs the eye more readily than the trendy oversize watches.
Hi. Wondering if you can help me. I just purchased a Movado 150mn like youres but the hands were missing. I cant find anywhere the hand sizes so i can order new hands. would you have this information? thanks
The hand size is very easy to find. The movement of the small Movado is cal. 150mn. Google movado cal. 150mn and the first entry is Bidfun.de by respected Mr. Ranfft. The hand sizes: 1.15/.80/.18
I love the old vintage, but unfortunately I never wore any of the ones that I had. They were just so small, many not even 30mm, like some square or rectangular art deco styles, a 1953 Bulova that was so beautiful, with a gold case, so much design put into the case alone. But they almost look like a womans watch, due to extreme small size. I never had any super expensive old Swiss brands, but many Swiss movements from American Watch companies, like Benrus, Gruen (Curvex), Bulova, Hamilton, etc. I eventually sold them all. A few years back I bought a Roman Numeral black dial Bulova Accutron, it's not the first generation, this is like a late 70's model, and the movement says AccuSwiss on it. Great watch, but it's about 30mm and I've rarely worn it either. Previously, if it wasn't mechanical, I didn't consider it a "real" watch, but I've come to appreciate the convenience and accuracy of quartz. I've been through some really nice jeweled movements, like the Seiko Kinetics with 7 Jewel movements, they just seem to run forever. Very nice explanation of these vintage models in this video!
Really enjoying your channel. I just looked for Movado on ebay in UK. A lot of people must have watched your channel over here because they are not cheap!
Man, that Pierce Monopusher is such a gorgeous piece! And the Movados, too. As always, great video--and you're right, sizes from 30 to 34/35 mm are much, much underrated. Over on some other channel just a few days ago, someone said that all sizes under 36 mm have no collectible value at all ... Yeah, if you're only after the money, I think. I recently bought a 14k 29x29 mm square Favre Leuba. It was sold as a plated women's watch, hence it was ridiculously cheap. I have yet to put it on my Instagram page, though.
People these days thinks if celebrities wear a brand like rolex or what ever that is the watch. No not at all. There are so many good vintage watches. My watch Repaire guy told me roamer manual winding vintage watch movement is more better than the rolex manual winding movement and it won't give much trouble like rolex movements
