Hey guys, be sure to leave comments about any experience you have had with any of these shops or with any others online. In addition, what is your favorite vintage watch that you own or you are looking to own in the future? Thanks again for watching!

I think you bashed eBay too hard, lol have bought several watches and have never been scammed or anything, I have found incredible deals and have loved them, eBay has done well for the buyers money back guarantee so if you are scammed you are garenteed your money back because eBay almost always sides with the buyers now

T&H is quite a fun youtube channel you watch and Christian is very enthusiastic. However, i bought 1 watch from them and the watch was quite disappointing. Overpriced (over $3,000 for a blue Rolex 1500) the condition it arrived in was terrible. It was all scratched up, over polished uneven lugs, gaskets are all dead and flat. And it was running half a minute slow per day. All this pointing to him never check or service his watch before shipping.

I think Omega Enthusiast might get some business from me. Their prices seem much more reasonable than their competition and I love their lifetime warranty. As long as you or the person the watch was purchased for own the watch they will service it for $100! That's awesome! Plus, I love vintage Omegas particularly their Seamaster DeVille line from the 60s.

@@ryano.5149 Yeah, go to Second Time Around and look at vintage Walthams (and other mid-market brands) for $1500.
World War Two Doxas for $3000!
      Way above the market.
All of these dealers are focused on Rolex and Omega and figure they can charge high-end prices for mid-range watches they bought at estate sales..
You're better off buying your Waltham on eBay and budgeting $500 for repair and reconditioning, if necessary.

Teddy - thanks for the video - I have some feedback for Bob’s watches. As a seller - I agree with your opinion - I got an absolutely beautiful Rolex 1500 from them several years ago. As a buyer - I do NOT recommend them - I was inexperienced at the time, so I am partly to blame, but I sold them a vintage 6694 for what I realized was a ‘bargain basement’ price, and they sold it for nearly three times what they paid me for it. I understand that they need to make a profit, but geez!

From my experience at least, buying from T&H was HORRIBLE OMG. I waited weeks for them to ship the watch and when I got it, the crystal immediately fell off. And they don't give you a full refund if there's something wrong with the watch they send you. They have a "restocking" fee that makes up a stupidly high percentage of the cost of the original transaction

What are your thoughts on Tourneau? I'm looking to buy a vintage Rolex. I was thinking they would be a good option since they are an authorized Rolex dealer, they inspect each piece and replace any faulty parts with parts from the manufacturer, plus they offer a 2-year warranty on their pre-owned watches. They are expensive but all of these things make me feel okay with spending the extra money.

Do those sites sell watches that have been serviced and lubricated? Where do you send your watches for servicing and at what cost? I was wondering if in those photos some watches had a restored / repainted dial vs the original one/

    • @TeddyBaldassarre
      @TeddyBaldassarre  6 років тому

Unfortunately, there really is no uniform answer for that since it depends on the watch and where you purchase it from. Most of the places that I mentioned have a service center offering in unison with their watches, however, at the very least, every respectable dealer will mention when their watches were last serviced or if the parts are original.

Rolex's are made by the tens of thousands per month. The R&D was done a long, long time ago. Now they are all about fashionable hockey puck sized reinturpitations of their older line.
Avoid plated base metal cases. This goes for chronographs too.
Look for STAINLESS STEEL cases and vintage manufacturers that made their own movements.
About "mid sized" watches : the men that wore them and depended on them won wars, built roads, trains, airplanes and cars. They pioneered open heart surgery and contributed to the arts and literature. They were reporters that burned a lot of shoe leather to bring an intelligent audience fair and balanced information. They pushed the speed of sound and left the Earths atomsphere. Not a single one of them stopped, looked at their wrist and uttered "I wish I had a wall clock stapled to my wrist".
So please do go buy a Rolex and a chronograph with complications you'll use twice a year and spend a fortune on maintaining.

From a purely "Vintage" the only watches I have that fit in this category are pocket watches.....my favorite being a sterling silver Omega. All of my wrist watches are comparatively "New" although I do have quite a number that are strictly mechanical (I prefer mechanical workings) My favorite wrist watch is a Seiko chronograph that has a rotating slide rule bezel. What would be my all time favorite vintage watch that I would buy (If I had the greenbacks!) easy! A 1953 Rolex oyster perpetual!

Have a vintage Omega acier constelation steel 1944, my grandfather had it on during the war. Brazil send a few ships to fight in Italy, have all original and will send pictures . Also two Breitling one was a special low edition in memory for Eric Tabarly a sailor hero from france, was entire rebuild on 2010 at their factory, Got as a gift in 88 and have all documents to give it. The other is a Colt from 96 on top shape, both are quartz and the battery works for five years.

T&H has an amazing markup at the prices. Sometimes 2x the going market price... I would never recommend him. Sorry, Teddy.

"personally i would pay a little bit more and buy it from a trusted dealer" lol there is not such thing as a "little bit more", its only a shitload more. Better save hundreds/thousands of dollars buying off of ebay with their great protection program than feed "trusted dealers" that overprice their stuff to shit and back.

some of these shops are using their reputable name to charge way over market, its disgusting. on the other hand prices in general have gotten exorbitant

TEDROS ADHANOM So far, I’ve had good luck with the few watches I bought on eBay But only one was secondhand. However, I got badly burned selling a watch on eBay and ended up not getting paid a dime. Admittedly, I made mistakes on my end that allowed a crook to take advantage, but he had a lot of help by eBay screwing me out of 500 bucks.

TEDROS ADHANOM it’s a long story, but basically the guy claimed never have to receive the watch and eBay made me give him the money back without investigating his claim. I now take extra precautions when I saw the eBay, like getting a signature on delivery.

This is a wonderful video - thank you! Just throwing this out to the watch community....any vintage watch shops in NJ? Still trying to get a read on how small of a watch I can pull off. I tried on a beautiful 34mm Omega at Central Watches but it looked tiny on my wrist.

Hi Teddy. What were the names of the owners of the shop based out of Hong Kong? I met a couple of guys in Rome last week and they showed some stunning vintage time pieces. One mentioned he was based in Hong Kong but they are originally from Italy. Mauricio was one guys name. I forget the other.
