I’m actually pulling for Warmachine. I think it’s a fantastic IP that suffered from bloat and mismanagement imo. They’ve got a tough uphill battle for sure but could make a resurgence if done right
I think a good way to manage the bloat would to be to again bring back the full metal roleplay but keep that to its side mostly. Then for the armies make them snapshots of the overall Kingdom rather than the entire kingdom's military in a single package. So with Mk4 as example do the Khador Winter Korps, and barely add anything to them, but then add in a few other Khador sub groups like their criminal element etc. each can be used to compartmentalize prevent players from single model hyper focusing or pulling the same sort of min-maxing that's natural with bloated armies. and at the same time it give a release valve for potential bloat as each is introduced in a small seperate mini-sub faction
Mike McVey designed the P3 Paint Range. He came from GW where he had led the 1994 revamp of the Citadel Color range. He used the same supplier that GW had used for their 88 and 94 ranges, HMG Paints in the UK. They also supply Coat D’Arms and Foundry Paints. P3’s two biggest selling points even in the modern hobby, IMO, is that they use liquid pigments instead of crushed physical pigment, and the quality of their metallics. The liquid pigment (and a more gel-like medium IIRC) were used to make the paints better at wet blending, which McVey felt would better suit the large flat surfaces of the warjacks. With how advanced general painting has become, and the growing popularity of advanced or relatively advanced techniques like wet blending and glazing, I think there’s a space for P3 to carve out as a vibrant and great covering paint range for painters wanting to use such techniques. Plus the metallics are fantastic. Molten Bronze, Brass Balls, Rhulic Gold, and Pig Iron are just beautiful metals, let alone great to work with as brush on or drybrush paints.
I really wish PP or now they would just essentially revert Warmahordes to a caster and jacks/warlock and beasts game. Allow for 1-2 solos or units extra in a standard game, but I really believe the game suffered when it tried to match the army sizes of 40k rather than sticking to being a skirmish game with a unique dynamic connecting the “general” to his or her large bash sticks.
This press release basically had every thing on my wishlist for Warmachine. Actual polystyrene model kits on retail shelves and an effort to grow the hobbyist and casual side of the community? I think they have a real chance to turn the game around.

I actually prefer plastic over resin. Resin is great for printing with your own 3d printer, for your own minis. But plastic is (generally) nicer/easier to work with in regards to kitbashing
I'm pretty happy if they reproduce the colors of P3 paints, I had bought some 10 years a go and only got back into hobby painting recently. They were all still perfect where many of my vallejo and GW paints were not. I ended up buying lots of colors to replace them just because I realized I wasn't going to be able to replicate those colors once I ran out. Good news for me that I might be able to get more of some of the colors I've yet to replace.

In terms of bringing P3 back, part of it would be having their own studio painters again. They used to have a UA-cam channel where they would demonstrate the product. Then they farmed it out and the people painting their models weren't even using P3 paint. They also need to keep it in stock. They also need to expand. There was an expansion set planned for years at this point that would've included Retributor White. To make that particular white you had to mix multiple colors for the base. Never a good way to paint an army when your first coat has to be mixed. Lastly I'd say a redesign on the bottles. Their flip lids are terrible. I don't know if that means flipping to a bottle type like Kimera or Ammo Atomic uses or just fixing the lids so that they don't break and render the paint useless.
My biggest complaint about MK4 is Riot Quest. We are sold on Riot Quest under the idea that all those models would be legal in Warmachine / Hordes. Then in Mk3 many of the models were just overpowered. So instead of fixing them to be playable in MK4, they just excluded them altogether. So now I'm sitting here, with everything for Riot Quest and only about 2-3 models are even playable in my 2 Armies.
@lordsofwargamesandhobbies3905 it wasn't needed because Riot quest is a great game on its own. Being able to play them in WMH was just a bonus. But with MK4, only a handful of models were given rules, which made it seem like a giant bait and switch.
Definitely a smart decision to drop the “Mk” designation. Just imagine GW stamping all their 40k product with “10th Edition.” It might make people ask, “If this is their tenth version of this game, why isn’t it better than this?”
Do we though? Do we? I bet the entire industry could lose all the players who play these weaker non GW games and no one would care. Some might be relieved.
I was interested in War Machine a bit, but not in a market of buying 3D prints from someone else. Just don’t care for buying printed resin from someone else. If they bring back plastics I’ll take a look at it again. Until then, GW, Wargames Atlantic, others that make plastic miniatures. Only place I get some resin from is Artel W and, while they are great, just prefer plastic. So many great paints these days, no need to try a comeback range with more bottles.
I think the biggest hurdle for SFG is that they are fanboys and I’m not convinced that they can make the hard choices necessary for this to have any chance at success. Their love for a particular thing, or the property as a whole, may cloud their judgment because they assume that they can make new customers like it because they like it.
