I think spending peeling back makes logical sense. If revenue growth isn’t keeping up then of course the extra spending will decrease especially when interest rates are still high when taking on debt.
Telco is essentially taking a gamble. They’re basically now betting that whatever tasks that need to be completed can be done over a longer time period and that right now is not the time to go all out with investment.
I don’t think it’s right, i actually think it’s going to be even more expensive in the future and that we still haven’t even begun to dip our toes into the next thing that will utilize bandwidth on these wireless networks.
The company that is the most capacitive will be the one in the best position when that time comes.
Specifically, i think the next big consumer generating thing for revenue is gunna come in the from mobile gaming. I have been seeing more and more people get into gaming off their tablets with remote play on PlayStation as an example. We also know that the next Nintendo switch handheld is set to be release I can easily see a cellular connnected variant of that console kinda like the PSP Vita of the 3G era
What’s nice about gaming is that it’s not actually bandwidth intensive but latency is vital and with network slicing finally starting to get utilized it will become a density question of the mobile networks to ensure reliable connectivity across the footprint

Also stem deck variant with 5G capabilities and considering the push for Arm by apple might force the market to experiment with Arm based chips for gaming
