Yes! It was the best time to be a kid. Skateboard, BMX, music, and going to arcades and meet some girls.

1985 was the year I started riding freestyle bikes. Loved it! Went on to ride downhill mountain bikes for about 15 years. Bikes are awesome.

Agreed. Todays bikes look like they’ve been pulled from the side of the road.
Boring colors, Seats all the way down, no brakes.
There’s no “flash” to them at all.

Remember Eddie is a pioneer of BMX Freestyle. He invented those tricks..not many could think or have the nerve to do at the time. It was 1985 thats a long time ago..36 years.

Looking to get a bmx and start messing around again. Miss my Mongoose Californian (blue tires and pads, seat, grips ect model) so much waaa!! haha.. Rad inspired me in 86 and now again in 2018. Eddie is a true legend.

I still have my Mongoose. Chrome frame, black forks and handlebars with black 5 spoke rim and black tires with tan side walls. It's still in mint condition the only thing that has ever been replaced was tires and tubes.

Wherever this skate park is located; this is where the intro of Rad was filmed! I always thought Crew Jones was the shit because of what he could do on a bike, but it was really Eddie Fiola doing all the riding/tricks! Wish I would’ve known that back when I was younger because I would’ve definitely been following his career back in the late 80’s and 90’s forsure!

How long was that run? 2 plus minutes more like 3..............X-Games dudes are tired our after 45 seconds now and so much spin tricks........A classic aerial 8 foot out the lip one hand/ one foot looks way sweeter than some 540 bar spin trick....................I love progress but it has gone in the wrong way. Mirra started it and he was God like on a BMX bike but he did path the way for what follows now...........We all miss Mirra, but I miss the Fiola and Mike Dominquez tricks more.

I was attempting this back in the 70s with some minor success, my own, crude quarter pipes. A lot of broken mongooses until Redline and GT emerged. Not a lot of blonde people at this contest! hahahaha Who remembers Trash can Morgan? Jeff Watson always went big, unlike Randy Whatson. haha

I was at the Pipeline one evening and Fiola was practicing no footers in the pipe bowl, he’d ask me how far his feet were off the pedals, they weren’t by much. I could tell it was a trick he wasn’t comfortable with.
