Wow - what a groove! Monk has been of of my major influences and continues to provide inspiration. Every time I listen, I hear something new! What a fantastic performance - I can't stop playing it!! Thanks.
Mr. Broom, you perform (at a minimum, IMO) 7 unconcious solos with Charles Earland on record - your grips got happily stuck in my head. People use the expression, ear-worm, and man we need rid of that. Some point tthere with Eric Alexander, that to me was one-of-kind lineup in the world. Realize now that I have been followng you since I heard the first such break, on Moonlighting or Can You Wait. You had great tone already back then c 89-93; (a Gretsch?). Shocks me to count out 24 years, though. Your post-2000 material on the interwebs, like the Monk here opening: beautiful & sometimes a lesson in simplicity. Actually I would recommend jazz students, listen in: thoughtful phrasing really beats all other issues back. RIP Mr Earland and carry on Mr B - how bout get a cat with brushes & re-open the Perhsing Hotel lounge - what say? Regards, from Scotia
