I just followed your guide and it worked out perfectly - THANK YOU for taking the time to make and share this video! FYI to anyone else with an HP M451dn: once you've selected the option in the service menu for replacing the pickup roller, just pull the power cord rather than pressing the power button (which resets the roller back to its normal, non-removable position)
These instructions did the trick. People should note that HP says not to put the printer on its back side as in this video as that may spill toner and cause trouble (IPS does say they did it just for demonstration). Rather hard to reach in there with the printer sitting flat, I tilted it back a bit and placed blocks under to allow more space, raised about 4 inches at the front, then moved it forward to the edge of the table. Had a hard time spreading the tabs and pulling the roller at the same time (work space, defective humanoid arm mechanism), Lovely Assistant to the rescue. I pulled the tabs apart, L.A. pulled the wheel forward. The remainder of the process was relatively easy. Printer is working again, thank you IPS! For the pickup roller position, do not turn off the printer once it is in position. Unplug the printer without turning it off. Roller will then stay where it is supposed to.
I worked strictly on Toshiba copiers for 14 years but in 2018 went to a smaller company for more money but they provided horrible training. Thank goodness for you and the internet that provides the information for me to do my job that my employer does not.
Switching off by using the shutdown button first will leave roller unrotated. Unplugging without first turning off gives the desired result: a ready-to-pull rotated roller.
Great video. So helpful. We had to follow a slightly different procedure. We had to leave the printer ON. Otherwise the pick up roller rotates back to its parked position. But the job went smoothly otherwise and the jamming issue appears to be cured. Thanks!
Thank you very much. This fixed the problem I had with the tray 2 jam error. The printer was not picking paper from Tray 2, and would jam paper fed through Tray 1. I have removed both rollers shown in this video, cleaned them with water and lint-free cloth, and back to business. The hardest part was removing the bigger roller because I did not have enough strength in my finger tips/nails. So I used two small screw drivers from both sides to free it, and it popped out nicely.
I'm not able to get to the secondary menu, no matter how many times I've tried the button combinations. I looked at the service manual and it says customers don't have access to it. Do I have to go through a special admin section first?
Replying 5 years later, in case anyone else has this issue: you have to press the button combination quickly. Otherwise the "2ndary" menu doesn't appear. Doesn't really matter though, because you can rotate the roller manually.
Fixed a very annoying false jam problem that's been plaguing the office for weeks. You're the man, Dan.

Very helpful thanks! Fixed a weird jamming issue we had :)
Excellent guide. Cheers.

If you have a password set on the printer then you won't be able to access the secondary service menu without first removing it (in my experience).

Why is there jam in cassette 2 always after printing one paper
it looks easy but it's not - I tried with my fingers. can't get it out I think I might need a flat screwdriver
how do you solve the situation when the rotate roller does NOT rotate ??? appreciate your help, elmark 4-15-17
Personally, I just forcefully rotate it.
