It really actually depends on which way the disks are moving and where your foot is on the fault line of the disks. Whichever side of your foot is on a bigger fault line, it'll move in the opposite direction, because one side of your foot surface is touching more moving disks than the other. So your feet could move in towards each other, in the same direction, or away from each other depending on where you step and which direction you're walking 🤓👆

Idk why anyones expecting it to be so perfect, like anything it takes learning the tool like a controller. Even walking on a treadmill feels very different and weird so why would this not be? It wont ever be the same as real walk, have to atleast expect that

VR is at its really early stage currently. Like NOKIA phones prior to the invention of iPhone 3G. There's gonna be quite a few of these major inventions that will eventually lead to every company trying to mimick the real ones. Now, I'm not an expert tech guy or anything, but I imagine they'll be working on comfort (AFAIK there helmets are quite annoying to wear for longer than 15 minutes), immersion, possibly body tracking and physical response simulating collision, like full body suits or whatever, maybe other stuff. Hopefully, not neural interfaces since some hacker from India would 100% find a way to hijack your brain. In any case, in a decade we'll probably see these VR helmets in the same light as we see flip phones now. I just hope I don't max level until they invent all this stuff.

guys, VR treadmills fundamentally cannot succeed in tricking our brains VR is real life. john carmack himself said that the vestibular system, the self-balancing and orientating system we have in our ears, cannot be tricked with a moving floor. the forces and inertia are still different than what we are normally used to when walking and running. vr treadmills are doomed from the start

The biggest issues with this that I see is that well, first off it requires it to be built into the floor, so if this thing ever becomes a consumer product it'd have to be some sort of raised platform.
Second is that you need to be wearing decently inflexible footwear, this wouldn't work barefoot because your foot would just touch all of the disk and not just the edges.
Third and most importantly is that this floor is porous and has literally thousands of gaps, so even if you have a perfectly clean pair of shoes you only ever use for it, hair, lint, and dust would eventually collect in the grooves and either wear out the internals or clog them up. At which point you'd basically have to disassemble hundreds of individual tiles and clean it all out.
All of these are fixable with a couple good engenering minds, for personal use it has a long way to go but for some disney park attraction they only need minor improvements.
