Many many happy hours spent playing as a child around the Duke of Wellington Statue. Great memories, thanks.

We used to go sledging on the Welly Statue during snowy days. We lived in Willems Park married quarters which is now the site of a big Tesco's

My home town, born there at the Louise Margaret Maternity Hospital part of the Cambridge Military Hospital in 1976. Went to Talavera School, then the Wavell School in Farnborough. I left there for good in 2003 and made my home in Norwich. Been in Norfolk ever since, though I really miss my home. It's interesting to see how much it's changed.

In 1990 I worked for the architectural company on the Methodist Church & Hall conversion project. The office was just next door. Lots of surveying, lots of working drawings for contractors. A really good time.

Grew up in and around Aldershot 80 years ago. Not returned in nearly 40.
Interesting to see how it has been ruined, I saw only one shop still trading that was there when I was a kid. Rather more historical inaccuracies than I would like and far too many omissions.

The Gurkha's are from Nepal not from India

Yeah but very sad Gurkha's has been a major part of British army since 1815 AD but they don't get much respect and recognition. British Empire held the power in the east because of the Gurkhas

Interesting insight into a town I knew nothing about.😁👍 Probably a good idea moving Wellington's statue. While it's new location is less glamorous, the view from a distance wouldn't be visible in central London. Seen from a short distance away, the sheer size of that horse is pretty impressive.

No one calls it "Little Catmandu". It's "Nepaldershot!"

Letting the Gurkhas stay here hasn't done Aldershot and favours and has given the town into a bit of a ghetto feel a out it.
It's also sad to see how many pubs that have closed for good.

Without the Gurkhas, Aldershot Town would have declined like many other towns across the country. Whether people like it or not, the Gurkha community has significantly invested in the town, opened businesses, and revitalized its economy.
