I caved and read Fourth Wing half expecting to hate it, since I saw it compared a lot to the Acotar series which was a 2-1 star read for me... but I really enjoyed Fourth Wing 😂 Violet was not obnoxious like Feyre, so that instantly won me over. It was cringe at times, super predictable, but a really fun read 👌🏻 and I love the dragons! 🐲💕
I almost always hate most hyped books so I went into fourth wing expecting not to like it. I didn’t get into it too much at first, I found a couple things that didn’t add up, but a few chapters in I started to like it. Then when the dragons showed up I really liked it. Now I can’t wait to read the next one. It doesn’t have any amazing thought provoking aspects, it’s just a well written dragon rider book that kept me interested the entire way through. The pacing was excellent imo. I enjoyed the characters. And although I kinda saw the ending coming, it was still done well. One of my favorite reads this year. I'm just getting back into reading after quite a few years of barely reading a book. I've read Fourth Wing and i actually loved it. As you say it's entertaining!
I got a copy of Fourth Wing but holding off on reading it until the hype wares off or until I get the sequel to read them together. I'm more excited to finish The Bone Shard Daughter series. Loved the first book and waited for both the second and third so that I can binge read all three. By the way just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to the Arrows Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey as I LOVED that series and now working my way thru the rest of the books in that world. Who knew that older fantasy could actually be this fun!!
Lol I saw 4th Wing at B&N like right away and bought it because I liked the sprayed edges and the facts that it had a really good rating on Goodreads and it had dragons.
I read The Foxglove King last week and I really loved the world and the magic. The plot was pretty predictable but I'm very interested to see how it moves forwards. I'm wondering if it's going to be one of those series where the plot really picks up in the second book and the first book is mostly just setup. I didn't realize when I picked it up that the second book isn't even out yet, so now ...I wait lol. I have a hold out for Fourth Wing at my library, but apparently so do a ton of other people lol. So I'm still waiting to get my hands on it and see what all the fuss is about.

I've never heard about Fourth Wing... consciously, lol. I saw your video on it but didn't have time, at the time, to watch. It doesn't sound interesting. The Foxglove King, however, seems cool.
The spicy scenes in Fourth Wing were pretty cringe, but I did like the book overall. Was a fun, quick read while I was on vacation. I never felt like I wanted to put the book down, so I guess the pacing was there. :)

I’ve read these all - felt quite disappointed by bone shard war unfortunately! I enjoyed ink blood sister scribe, fourth wing, battle drum, and the book that wouldn’t burn immensely!
I don't know if it's because English is my third language but I didn't find Fourth Wing to be cringe at all... I did dislike quite a lot how much Violet kept swooning over Xaden in her head but it was just a small detail I wanted dragons and I got served, I completely fell in love with Tairn and Andarna
I went into Fourth Wing skeptical, I had to push past a lot of the super cringy dialogue and found myself skimming a lot of the first half- but once the dragons got involved I was hooked. I loved them and the dynamic they brought to the story. Was it a masterpiece? Def not. Was it a great escape? Absolutely. I am currently stuck in book 2 of Bone Shard trilogy. I LOVED book 1, because it succeeded in surprising me and that so rarely happens. It was similar to the feeling I had reading Mistborn. For some reason, I can’t make myself get further into book 2, I got bogged down- and haven’t picked it back up yet and I’m honestly not sure why. I def want to get there though.
the hype for Fourth Wing comes from readers of romance that just discovered that fantasy can be romantic and how amazing fantasy is 😂 Its a good book but by no means the best book ever written lol
On bone shard(the lightest spoilers) , I feel like after the first book, books 2&3 really felt like someone writing to get adapted to a Netflix show. The weakest part of the series overall is that introduces a lot of cool mysteries in book one and if you are paying attention, and have read a story or two, you’ll start figuring those out well in advance of the story, possibly books earlier. and it doesn’t introduce any other mysteries as we’re going there’s just less and less things to be interested in this world. The characters are interesting, but at times, especially in book 2, it feels like it’s focusing far too much on 2 of the 5 pov characters. Overall an inoffensive 3/5 series.
I don't know why there seems to be a tendency with trilogies to have the third book start off with a bunch of missed time from the end of book 2. Sometimes I think the having to wait a while to piece things together just wastes time that would be better spent elsewhere. It's not always good or bad. It depends on the specific series, but it is an interesting trend I have noticed.
I just realized...it's early to think about Goodreads Choice Awards, but Fourth Wing is probably going to win the Fantasy section....even with Brandon Sanderson having his Secret Projects this year... I guess the Author has EDS and also writes Vi with the same symptoms of her disease so its great disability rep. But I can't bring myself to read it with it being heavy romantasy.
I didn't LOVE the first two books in the Bone Shard series so I am hesitant to pick up book 3, which is a real shame because I love the concept and the covers are really unique!
I want to get a copy of Fourth Wing, but from what I've heard... It's all tension like Executive Decision. There isn't a way to up the ante when you start the story with a life and death challenge. It feels very.... Squid Game with dragon riders with sex.

there wasn't really that much spice in it tho, i was pleasantly surprised. like maybe 2 scenes, and those near the end. were they cringe? yes, very 😂😂 but they didn't take away from the rest of the book.
I mildly enjoyed fourth wing but the hype is pretty wild lol. I will say that I think it’s more fantasy with a romance subplot though, especially compared to some of the rubbish worldbuilding and plots of a lot of the fantasy romances I’ve been subjected to recently
I heard a recent reviewer say that in Fourth Wing, the characters would be in the middle of an intense "life or death" scene yet they'd be all about how hot some guy is or s3xy time or whatever.. I am reading Into the Drowning Deep (almost done) and I ran into a similiar issue with that book (mild though not spicy lol). I'm like what the heck, y'all have killer mermaids after you, but you just HAVE to do THAT right NOW? Really? 😂
Just to clarify, killer mermaids not a spoiler (synopsis)... and I left out the s3xy time character names but honestly it's pretty obvious from early on what's going to happen. Hope that still doesn't spoil anything for anyone! If you think it does please let me know and I'll remove my comment 👍🏻

I also have joined the Fourth Wing hype train. Bought it in the B&N preorder sale on a whim (pretty edges!), picked it up to read on a whim and loved it! I honestly didn’t find it cringey and I really liked both Violet and Xaden. It was fun! It reminded me of an adult Alanna: The First Adventure (with dragons!). It does annoy me that I’ve seen some people basically say “oh it’s not for TRUE fantasy readers. If you’re a new fantasy reader you might love it but those of us who have been reading fantasy for years know better”. I do think it’s a good bridge book from YA to adult but also, I read primarily fantasy and have since I was a kid. So I don’t think you have to have limited knowledge of the genre to enjoy it! Anyway, I always appreciate your balanced reviews!! Even when you are shocked by the hype, you don’t dismiss other people’s enjoyment or belittle their taste. Thank you!
I felt pretty much the same way about Bone Shard War, both in the positive and negative aspects. I wanted it to feel a bit more triumphant, but I did feel like it was a conclusion that respects the story and the character arcs.
Which just shows how extremely simplistic and reductive people's thinking is. The ASoIaF universe has soooo much more going on than just dragons. And everything from the story, over the characters to the writing is orders of magnitudes more complex. I've read a lot of reviews say things like "yeah it wasn't that great, but I loved the dragons!". Which is fine. But there is no shortage of dragon fiction. You could easily read two to three dozen dragon books just from common choices if that's all you're after.
They can be. Doesn't mean that every dragon story is good or worth reading. This one certainly isn't. A lot of crap to wade through to get to the dragons and even that isn't anything special at all. Anne McCaffrey did exactly the same stuff 50 years ago.
spoilers for Bone Shard War . . . . . . . . . I didn't mind the time skip so much, but I really didn't like the amnesia plot line at the very end. It felt a little cheap when he just came back to her. IDK maybe that's just me.
Yes, yes, yes, finally someone who thinks like i do about fourth wing. I just dont get it? It was troupey, it was predictable. It felt like the authour just took bits from different books and mashed it together to create fourth wing. Im not saying it was absolutely terrible. But it wasn't great, nor original. It was meh. I dont think i ever physically rolled my eyes will reading a book so much as i did while reading fourth wing. Do not get the hype.
that rimance you descrbed just sounds like waste of time to me, take out the romance and it would sound good but that romance bit sort of ruins it for me
fourth wing was 1 star for me, and this is coming from someone who is able to enjoy trashy fantasy. i see what people like about acotar. i do not understand fourth wing. the writing is not only juvenile but straight up….bad. the sentences are clunky. the exposition is shoved in with very little integration, like they’re sitting in class being lectured on something literally everyone in the school already knows. the dialogue/slang swings back and forth between cringe gen z slang and desperate attempts to sound erudite. the two main characters are the only ones with any depth and they’re both insufferable. plus the disability “rep” is just the main character forcing herself through unnecessary pain and holding herself to standards that don’t apply to her body. i can enjoy mindless fun, but i can barely get through two paragraphs of this without the terrible writing pulling me out of the story

*I* hadn't heard about Fourth Wing until I watched this video xD It might be cause I don't have Tiktok ... maybe.
I loved the Fourth Wing I enjoyed reading it the cover is so beautiful 📚💚💞📖📖💛💛🩷🩷🌻📙❤️🌻🪻💘💘🌸💔💔🤍💓💓💖🌹💐🌼🌼💜💜📙🌻🩷🩷🩵💜💛💛📚📚💞💚🌺🌺🌺💙🌺💚🩵📖🩵💜💜💜🩵🩵🩵💛🖤🖤🪻🩷
For better or worse, I'm hoping people loving Fourth Wing do not think my dragon rider book is the same 😂
I am sorry forth wing is a dnf to me just couldn’t take to it don’t come for me please love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
4th wing reminds me of game of thrones and house of dragons. i think that has something to do with the hype. 🐉
@S Black dragons and their stories are awesome is all
They can be. Doesn't mean that every dragon story is good or worth reading. This one certainly isn't. A lot of crap to wade through to get to the dragons and even that isn't anything special at all. Anne McCaffrey did exactly the same stuff 50 years ago.
I need to know why a lady, who is a general, seems very angry and brutal would name her daughter after a pretty purple flower lol.
The color of bruises! 😂

I didn't mind the time skip so much, but I really didn't like the amnesia plot line at the very end. It felt a little cheap when he just came back to her. IDK maybe that's just me.
Fourth wing was easy to read but mediocre, predictable and cringy...it doesn't help that it is advertise as exceptional and revolutionary book
Do not get the hype.
that rimance you descrbed just sounds like waste of time to me, take out the romance and it would sound good but that romance bit sort of ruins it for me
Thank u! Fourth wing is so overhyped, read Fireborne instead if u love dragons.
I did not like Fourth Wing either. It's a 2 stars for me, kinda bad honestly. It d
feels wattpadish to me :/
I thought Fourth Wing was a fun read.
fourth wing was 1 star for me, and this is coming from someone who is able to enjoy trashy fantasy. i see what people like about acotar. i do not understand fourth wing. the writing is not only juvenile but straight up….bad. the sentences are clunky. the exposition is shoved in with very little integration, like they’re sitting in class being lectured on something literally everyone in the school already knows. the dialogue/slang swings back and forth between cringe gen z slang and desperate attempts to sound erudite. the two main characters are the only ones with any depth and they’re both insufferable. plus the disability “rep” is just the main character forcing herself through unnecessary pain and holding herself to standards that don’t apply to her body. i can enjoy mindless fun, but i can barely get through two paragraphs of this without the terrible writing pulling me out of the story
How did Fourth Wing get so hyped before it was even released ? 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
