I was Chaplain at 3rd Batt when the actors came through. One day in the chow hall I saw them wearing the old Desert uniforms. It threw me for a loop when I saw Shughart as a name tag since I was friends with the real Shughart 15 years earlier. I sat down for lunch with some of them. Josh Harnett, who ended up playing Eversman, was wearing Streucker’s name tag. I asked him if he wanted to talk to the real jeff Streucker and when he said sure I gave him Jeff’s number. We had a good talk about many different things. Jason Isaacs was blown way at the idea of a Chaplain in the Rangers that went and did everything with them. When they asked me about the characters they played I said that my friends who were there said the book was pretty darn accurate so follow the book.
As a funny side note, the trainers said Ewan McGregor struggled in exercises so they told him, “use the force obi wan!” A total ranger response. 🤣

I bet he did. Jedi are not supposed to be violent. 😂
Having said that, These Rangers did good to guide the actors to portray them.

The book, and movie are quite accurate from the perspective of the rangers.
Hundreds of Somali civilians who injured and died were not shown, they were probably seen as savages without much values.
The 10th Mountain Division who joined forces with Malaysian and Pakistani forces to extract the rangers were not really shown. The dead and injured Malaysians and Pakistanis in the daring rescue mission were not shown too.

Tom Sizemore is a Drug addict and a liability to the producers . This was his last great movie he made . In and out of jail & rehab. He used to live up on Benedict Canyon Drive above Beverly Hills . I used to deliver food to him in 2004 . He was a complete mess . He had 2 prostitutes off of the street in his house . Disgusting . Spielberg threatened to shutdown production if he showed up high on the set of Saving Private Ryan . Where he ironically portrays a WWll Ranger . Tom Sizemore does low- budget made for Red Box movies now.

At the end when he said they each got a letter telling them to portray their stories right and with honor and pride, and that it was signed by all the soldiers who didn't survive, this sound of pure, raw emotion came out of me. Instant teary eyes and indescribable emotion I felt. I wasn't expecting that, and I am positive that the actors felt the same - but magnified 1000 times stronger.

As a Army Infantry vet and having completed Combat Leaders Course (Pre Ranger course) at Ft Ord and also having completed a tour in the Middle East during Desert Storm the phrase "We trained in a cinder block city" kinda made me laugh a little but imagine how many acronyms were thrown at these actors while going through this training?
MOUT stands for Military Operations in Urban Terrain and was where I learned how to rappel down a wall or out of a window,
properly clear a room, set demo to blow a door, take well aimed shots once inside a room, how to apprehend a P.O.W., and perform search and seizure properly. I admire and respect every actor for their time and dedication to learn the ropes of what it takes to become a Ranger and Delta Force, even though it was a condensed course, but for immersing themselves in this training. It really shows in this movie and how intense combat can really be.
I find it hard to watch combat movies like this without pointing out the nomenclature of each weapon, type of aircraft, or explaining acronyms to who I'm watching it with. I'm sure I drive them crazy. Great behind the scenes featurette.

Wow I never realized how many British (forgive me if that’s not exactly the correct place they are from) actors played roles in this movie. Very interesting video, thanks for the upload.

This is documentary based on the interviews with Malaysian army who served in UN peace mission in Mogadishu. The Malaysian army personnels described their true experiences there, especially what really happened during their rescue mission of American soldiers who were trapped at Bakara. Viewers can use English translation in the caption settings. TQ.

It is this movie that convinced me that American soldiers should never be under the command of non-American officers. If you wonder why I say this, remember that American forces were close but under the command of UN commanders who refused to allow them to go to the aid of their countrymen until the next morning and then didn't take enough vehicles to evacuate all that survived. watch the final scenes of thus movie.

but thats the thing though, they only got a small taste of what the actual recruits would have to go through. So by the time they had finished their training, the weight of their gear would not have bothered them as much.
