Carnage - Should We Drop This Engine In Our Torana?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 кві 2023
- The Torana has been sitting there for a while now while we try and decide what to put in it. I wanted to use the 2JZ but we just used that for the Trolvo so maybe we should grab another engine that's been laying around the workshop.
Street Machine Carnage is all about having fun with cars. Sometimes it's serious performance, sometimes it's crazy fun, but it always interesting and done on a budget.

This is proper old school street machining! A huge engine in a little car. This would be the most exciting swap you’ve done so far
It would be the best car they've done to date, with that Hemi OR an LS in it
@@danielbrealey2924 hemi seams more fun😉🙂👍👍
@@steveveness3829 🤔 Yeah, although I think it's just brand pride- it's arguable whether it's a better motor than an LS. I think either would be awesome. I miss my old 383 LJ, man. Big engines in little cars are the best
@@danielbrealey2924 I get that, chuckle if I had a v8 back jn 2005 would of been a real laugh as a mid mount in a UC Sunbird I built with a guy who needed to stay out of trouble.
Mid mount 6 was fun regardless.
@@steveveness3829 Sounds like an interesting build mate 👍
Before removing the 4cl get it going Dyno it then put the biggest turbo you have on it and nitros to see what number you can get before it turns into confetti.
That sounds cool man I like it get a bottle of some nos too lol
Waste of time! Straight to the hemi! Thunderbirds are GO!
Yeah!! blow it up with a blower!
Those 1.3 motors will blow up on a good day at standard power level… they only have three crank main journals instead of 5..so the crank ends up twisting at higher rpm and then it all comes to bits on its own anyhow…
@@mitchellspencer4726 . That would make for a bit of entertainment 🤣
Scotty just put the fear of quick death into the front shocks when he wheeled that beast over.😂
Hemi TA Torana Gasser! That would solve the ground clearance issue. I'd go stock motor first as a base line then add bits and boost later😀
I'd go a built 4cy turbo personally, but Scotty is so excited for the hemi, I can't go against that.
I see a major gear box tunnel mode in a future episode
Huge yes to the Hemi going in the Torana. Would definitely be something different to see and would make great content for the channel.
*We've been GAGGING to do a Hemi powered Holden for donkeys ages!*
Let us live vicariously through you! And once she's a runner, see if Harrop need a test mule for a 2650 blower kit lol
If it all fits under the bonnet I think I'd sooner like to see a procharger providing the boost. Plus centrifugal blower is something different for Carnage - as if this little car really needs a blower full stop 🤣
@@kljperformance7372 mate, if some is good... then surely more is better!
Put that hemi in the lockdown valiant like we've been waiting for.😁
A hemi in a valiant.... how original 😂 a hemi in a little Torana is NOT common, where's your originality mate 😂
Wpuld love to but I don't have the budget to finish the car right now
I agree
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING to the nursing home for you lol
Then slap a nice 173 with triple u on it and xu1 head?🤔
Would definitely be different...
Being a 4 pot Turdrunner I can't help thinking a 4 banger would be cool in it, K24 or something... and make it a drift car or hillclimb car?
But if you want it to be a drag car it'd be bloody unique with that in it.
And don't bother sticking an LS in it - might as well just sell it. So many LSs out there.
@@mahcooharper9577 hey if it goes fast who cares what powers it? Its not like anyone is casting an engine themselves or designing a new style of head.
@@boingkster not knocking LSs, they're popular for a reason - it's just that it's not that interesting to make a video series of an LS swap in to a Torana. It's been done so many times
@@mahcooharper9577 Fair call. A Mitsubishi 4G54 (SOHC 2.6L 4cyl) would be perfect I reckon.
Definitely go the hemi. Everyone is either doing ls or barra swap these days. This would be a one of kind build that I would love to see
Yes +1 for the hemi torana build!!!! Been thinking that exact thing for ages, it's clearly meant to happen with those dimensions.
Hemi gets my vote, would be a proper little weapon 😀
And don’t forget it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission 😂
I'm all for this build. It's gonna be epic if this project gets the go ahead. LS everything's been done it's hemi time baby
Late to the party here but I think the look on your face when you measured the engine says it all, that was almost pure childlike joy. To the bosses, this HAS to happen!
I'm guessing it'd flex so much you'd crack the (non-existent-at-the-moment) windscreen the moment you hit the loud pedal with it in gear for the first time, and you still might have a height issue (may need to source another bonnet or make me cry and cut up that nice-looking original), but this can definitely be done and I'm totally here for it!
Wow that's gonna be a big project. The engine is almost as big as the car. Lol. This will be mental. Get it done scotty!
Do it! Dry sump will fix clearance issues. Just worried about weight and strength of the chassis. May add to the $$$ a fair bit.
Prefer hemi over ls but being a 4 pot car the k swap sounds more appealing or 3rz something odd that likes the boost
I think that you should go with the Hemi in this.
Much more interesting watching this build over an LS build.
But as someone else has mentioned in the comments if you don't go with the Hemi, then a rotary would be wicked in the little Torana.
Do the Hemi Scotty!
Run it stock, then add the go-fast bits.
LS has been done to death.
As I’m the donator of the guard flutes, I reckon that counts for extra votes 👍
I thought you would have done something really different and gone with a K24 turbo Honda setup. Keep it 4 cylinder but modernised.
We looked at it but they're expensive to get real power out of.
This! Was just about to comment, k swap in aus would be cool to see, decent turbo maybe a power glide keep the weight down/ balanced. The hemi would be cool to see on something else Val coupe or something!
@@STREETMACHINETV Collab with Boosted Bois. You pay to fly them out and let them bring all the parts to build it. Both channels win and gain more subs.
Great idea, back it up with a manual transmission and it’ll be awesome!
You got the car, you got the engine.... Just do it!
I think it will be a fun project!
Do it!! I think you're opening up a world of hurt trying but the end result will be well worth it.
Love the idea ls swaps been done to death would be a snooze fest
Would be awesome to see but make sure that chassis is strong enough to handle the power but no doubt you’ve already worked that out. Make it happen Scotty🍻
UNIQUE. HEMI IN TORANA IS THE BEST IDEA.
LS HAS BEEN DONE. ITS JUST AN ORDINARY CONVERSION. YOU GUYS ARE KNOWN FOR DIFFERENT AND CRAZY. DONT TAKE A STEP BACK. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
LOVE TO SEE THE HEMI WORKED IN THE TORANA. ITS A NO BRAINER🙏🙏🙏🙏
NO BRAINER GUYS. TORRY THE HEMI!!
WHY ARE WE YELLING?!?
Scott: "Am I crazy?"
Us: "Sure as hell mate, but we're not gonna stop you!"
They do say that with enough Vaseline, anything will fit 🤣🤣. But let's be honest, this is one of the best pastime that we as Australian's love to do, take the biggest engine lying around stuff it into the small Car we can find. Normally it involves a bit of liquid encouragement first, but hey. If Telfo approves, then SEND IT!!!
Should either do this or a rotary swap
Faaaark off lol
Rotary would be cool
Rotary would be kool
🤮
Fark Scotty way to get a bloke excited on a monday morn!!!! Be a mad concept 🤣👍🍻The main issue to start with would be regarding chassis twisting and tracking straight under 10-12 times the torque and horsepower. Being Street Machine somehow I reckon you would know a guy 😉
It would be getting some reinforcement
Well Castlemaine Rod Shop shoehorned a V12 Fezza motor into a LC. Massive amount of work needed. But if you want to spend the time in modifying the bay etc, you will have a really unique vehicle!
Height is not a problem. Cut an opening in the bonnet and build an intake cover for the hole.
Other considerations, as you know, are transmission and tunnel modification. Bigger diff and entire rear end beefed up. The wheel arches enlarged to take bigger tyres. The front end suspension likewise. Then there is the interior. It would be a beast though.
To save cutting into the fire wall add lj or lc front sheet metal fenders and bonnet nose cone. Should give you a bit more room
Love to see the hemi in that car. Steering rack, cross member and sump will be the issue. It would be interesting to do the little 4 banger up with a turbo. It could hit a full 100hp lol
Barra
@@okramrimitsog5931 😢
Yes yes yes, do it. Back to the old school when we fitted the biggest conversion we could find in our little shit boxes. Make it happen, this will be epic.
Omg yes that’s crazy and you guys are the right people to do it 👍🏼
Street Machine was built on unusual and one off builds, why change now? Put that Hemi in there 🔥👌
There’s a 5cl Volvo that Ford used in champion rally cars that would fit nicely.
I really want to see one of these built as I’m thinking of using one for a build myself.
Great motors. The VW ones are good too.
They are fine if you don't mind studding the sleeves etc.
I think you are on a winner Scotty. But may I suggest this may be the perfect opportunity to have a Carnage/Skid Factory colab! You must invoke the spirit of the Turbo Yoda as he is a master of fitting square pegs into any shape hole and is a genuine top bloke like yourself. Also Yoda comes with a free Woody! Not only is he very handy on the tools and camera as well as being one of the nicest fellas ever, he can double as a human pull through for them impossible to get to jobs...! Love ya Woody!!
As a true torana lover and a hemi lover, this would be worth the wait.
I think you should put a smaller turbo engine in there, this is unusable except for going in a straight line. Keep the video's coming! Greetings from the Netherlands 👍
I agree a 4cyl Opel engine or K swap it or something lol
Audi 1.8t manual quattro. 👍
Build a car that's a hot streeter. Fully legal registered and a drag challenge weapon. Enough of the unregistered drag cars. More enjoyment to be had than just flogging it for a 1/4 mile. Love the channel Scotty.
Good to see a build on a street legal car that can go on a Powercruise and drag weeks
Not sure we could make it legal
Be a good series if fully engineered and streetable 👍🍻
@STREETMACHINETV work with an engineer. Anything is possible with the correct talent on board.
Yep this is where it's at. Something on the road and usable. For the average punter that's way more realistic than a trackday weapon.
6.4 hemi, straight axle, headers out the fenders, nose in the air, Gasserana!
“Am I crazy”? Yes, yes you are but I love it 😂😂😂
Go with the Hemi Scotty, certainly unique and I like I’m sure many others will be hanging out for updates - good luck with it
100% Do it..Do it NOW!!
What an awesome combo that would be...
Definitely a good idea putting the Hemi engine in the Torana. Keeps the current Carnage tradition of swapping larger engines into smaller cars, such as the Barra/ LS powered MX5.
Hey Scotty, mate 1x gas axe, 1x hammer, and 1x 10" shifter, and any motor will fit in the Head Butt. Just clear the space and shove it in baby, but it can't go in stock. A performance cam of some description must be installed
Not sure if it's been mentioned but how much clearance through the trans tunnel I think when you move the firewall back do the trans tunnel I would put a built and tubbed rear end or mini tub to fit fuel cell inside I would also recommend a roll cage and brake upgrade things look like they going to be hectic can't wait for the videos I think the sump suggestion is likely just to have a bit more clearance I also think if you need an inch or 2 out the Bonnet it will look tough you could go sleeper but meh if you're going to put it in I'd let everyone see also may have missed but another thing to keep in mind is what is it going to be used for and build it to suit I think it will be tough af judging by the rest or your builds. I'm putting a V6 with a 6v71 blower in my Torry racecar so yeah anyway I vote go the hemi
I had a 4cyl then a 6cyl LC back in 76-79. The front chassis rails on the 4 cyl are match sticks. Definitely going to need a bit of beefing up somehow. The transmission tunnel on the 4 cyl is the same size as the 6 cyl so there is a moderate amount of room. But with all that weight up front it ain't gunna handle. One thing with the Hemi, the spark plugs being on top will be easy to get to. Also the starter is on the passenger side so it won't get in the way of the steering.
You could go a dry sump set up, mount the radiators and coolers in the backseat/boot with air ducts coming up from the bottom, probably the best way to do it
Like Brocks rally cross Torana.
I’m very keen for this content with the hemi - especially as a 1/4 mile development style build series possibly with some nitrous which would be very interesting content and newer territory for the channel. So much forced induction drag racing going on, this would be refreshing
Nitrous is forced induction
@@STREETMACHINETV Haha yes true (thanks mate) the bottle is pressurised I hadn’t thought of it that way, I guess I meant having a break from blowers and turbos 👍🏻
Get it in there Scotty, This car will never be engineered etc, so realistically, you can do what you want.. This is automotive art at it's finest.. Leave it stock, get the suspension and grip right. Won't need huge ridiculous power
Scotty, what a Classic combo I love it, laugh so hard if ya pull it off😂
Hemi stock to start with and then build it up take us viewer's on a journey. Just like trolvo and the vn the journey has been the best part.
That's nuts enough to work. I love it!!
Stock, Glide, Diff sounds like a good start. Ya gunna need a chassis kit, otherwise ya gunna twist the crap out of it. Castlemaine Rod Shop has one I believe for the LC/LJ. I believe they're the same chassis as your TA?
Looking forward to hearing what's gunna be the go.
Dear Scotty’s bosses let him put that hemi in the torana as we have now been teased and now anxiously waiting to see it #FORTHEBOYS
Dude!!! This needs to happen! That will be insane!
Put that hemi in the torana scotty. That would be a insane build and myself and so many others would love to see it done. Build the motor and shoot for the moon. Would probably be one of the fastest if not the fastest car in the carnage fleet
Without a doubt, if you pull this off, will be one of the best UA-cam project done yet, in my opinion.
I'd love to see the hemi in it, Scotty's excitement says it all. You could just entertain the idea for another episode at least, pull the old motor and try fitting the hemi in and see what needs to be done
No second guessing on this one Scotty!
DO IT....DO IT....DO IT....DO IT
From a little workshop in suburban Victoria comes
HEMRANA !!!
Do it !
Cheers from Sydney
🇭🇲👍👍👍👍🇭🇲
You need to ask Alan from the Skid Factory and see what he thinks. Just remember it will take twice as long and be twice as hard as you expect it to be.
Hell ya that 6.4 hemi will fit. My metal shop teacher in high school said you can do anything with a chop saw, grinder, and a welder. Cut your firewall out and go from there, just do it Scotty
That’d be an awesome build to watch, definitely chuck that hemi in!
Hell yeah do it, sounds interesting I’ll be watching for sure
Great idea !! But I foresee many issues ! Chassis, cooling , firewall, and most probably trans tunnel, fitting the engine will be the least of your issues!!
Go for it, what a rad build this would be
The number one question when doing an engine swap is " What is the intended purpose of the car? " ( based on past vids I'm betting a burnout car to generate some content for the magazine. ) The number two question is " How much $ do we have to build the car ? " ( RE sponsors that want to showcase their products )
Not knowing these cars but being aware of the factory engine options, the front suspension isn't going to be happy with the hemi let alone the brakes. Do not pass go, do not collect $ 200, proceed directly to doing a replacement front half. This way you get a sturdy suspension / real brakes and lots of under hood room. That increased under hood room is the key point.
Doing a rear half is pretty much a given as the rear axle / suspension are not likely to tolerate much power.
What would I build if this car wandered into my shop? It would be a road race track day car with a front / rear half and cage. Power train would be an off the shelf engine / trans. The 2014 - 19 Cadillac CTS twin turbo V6 that makes 420 HP or the 2016-19 ATS-V at 464 HP. look interesting. Small package, all aluminum for light weight, great power as is.
We'd probably drag race it. But do it seriously
@@STREETMACHINETV In that case, run what you brung ( Hemi )
Considering this is Street Machine, the 6.4L Hemi should go in!
I think you need to put in a call to The Skid Factory to have those boys come down for a week and help you fit these two together...
As long as theres some sort of v8 going into that torana i think we'll all be happy 😅
Definitely do the Hemi, personally I think it would be an awesome not only for us viewer’s but also for you guys as a project!
As much as I love this idea I would actually much prefer a Holden 5.0 stuffed in it, or even a turbo RB30. Surely there is a much more obscure car to put the Hemi into
The second U sold Mr Dodgy, I knew the next step was to put that HEMI in the Torrie
Do the hemi but make sure it’s really nice. The car looks straight so it would be awesome to make a really clean, fast, tory. Old school street machine style.
Would love to see a Hemi powered something on an Aussie UA-cam channel, I'm over 1J this & 2J that or Barra or LS powered everything, finally something different on UA-cam, will be definitely be watching if this goes ahead 🤩
Great video. My vote - stock hemi......, however,.....
Would be so great to see a couple of videos of:
a) get the little 4 pot working go for a drive
b) dyno the 4 pot
c) whip out the 4 pot and strip it down, work out what could be done to max out its performance and do it, then put it back in and dyno it again, qnd go for another drive. How much tech and knowledge could you apply to that thing and how far could you get it?
Then do the hemi swap!
Drop it in, the torry it's a must see episode for sure 😅😅😅😊
Hell yeah, 6.4 hemI is a Go ahead in my view 🎉do the stock 1st more viewing potential to watch the longer build progress.
you wanta be unique go for a compound turbo 4jj1 , that craze must be taking off soon here scoty ( pretty sure its already turning into a thing in patrols ) and then you would be at the front of the pack but a ls swap would be awesome but its trendy to hate by the trendsetters , and who could complain about a hemi in a torana ( someone will ) all good choices but i would love to see 4j swap , be good to see end results against the barra and the trolvo . and lets face it you will have a very unique fleet of cars . or how about a 6/71 blown ls and make yourself a decent burnout car
That's the essence of hotrodding right there. The engine you've got into the car you've got
I've always reckoned an Alloytec would be cool in it. Keeps it Holden, and if you put a decent timing chain and guides in it, they're a solid motor. I'm positive there was a 10 second LC/LJ with an NA Alloytec back in 2007?
lfx/lgx is a very capable engine.
Ewwww lol
I'd love to see the Lexcen finished first! But the stock Hemi in the little Torana would be a huge giggle.
I am voting for an LS engine!
Poor Torana has a dedicated ford man under the hood !
Its ok little Torana I got your back! 👊!
Do it, would love to see this come to life.
Do it! This is what old school Street Machining is about.
I like the idea 😊 Will take a lot of supporting mods to make it safe though with RnP steering, brakes, suspension, at least a 4 bar link in the rear, tubs for bigger rubber out back and gotta hide it all under the standard bonnet for ultimate sleeper 😉
I like the hemi in the torana idea… as long as another hemi joins the party for the lockdown wagon.
Putting the HEMI in is a unique as you can get. I am sure there will be a few people around happy to lend a hand with the conversion.
Hemirana or Torahemi. Just a thought.
LS is done to death on the toobs, put the Hemi in. It will be an interesting build, no doubt it looks like it fits but damn it's gonna be tight and would be interesting to see how you work around it. If people are fitting 2jz's in these I'm sure you can fit the Hemi, well length wise anyway as I think your going to need a mega power bulge to retain the bonnet.
That hemi swap would be killa
But boosted hemi swap that would be insane.this is definitely something that should be done.
Best idea yet it will work just try not to snap the car in half and make it drive straight cause we all know the old toranas love to crab walk down the road
I love the idea of the Hemi swap, but she's going to take some serious chassis work to stop it becoming a very twisted Torana.
100%, anything over 200HP requires serious beefing up chassis or the doors won’t close and the roof will ripple
I think you should do something a little different with the torana. Swap in a vortec 2200 and turbo it. It's a 2.2 4cyl ohv engine that came in the chevy s-10 compact utes in the states.
I love to see these happen mate.
G’Day mate how are you? You could also put spaces between the front crossmember and the chassis to raise the body up off the crossmember so that gives you a higher clearance. I once had an LC Tirana, and did this to mine.
Fuel injected turbo straight six Holden, distributor-less ignition…that would be art
Cubes is core business for street machine magazine. I say go for the Chrysler in the torana. Surely there is a fabricator out there that will help your cause in return for showcasing their work on UA-cam.
YES love it stick the Hemi in there but add rods, pistons, cam etc, if your going to go big GO BIG
