    Just got this filter, do you really have to you a hose to flush the carbon before filtering, or can you just fill the top bucket with hot water and let it run through, similar to how its done with the Still Spirits pro filter.

    Hi, I’ve heard after distilling and filtering, it’s common to leave the alcohol to breathe overnight in an unsealed container to release any vapors - would I do this before or after filtration?

    Mine is so slow it's getting silly. After 24 hours it's probably filtered through around 4 litres only....and it seems to have slowed down even more. There has to be a better way to filter. Maybe slightly bigger carbon granules. Wife's getting annoyed it's permanently set up at the moment too and I really don't blame her! Update, day 6 and no more alcohol has penetrated the filter. Only good for the bin I'm afraid.

      Same its extremely slow, did you ever find a fix?

    • @martinfairchild1479
      @martinfairchild1479 11 місяців тому

      I'm afraid I havent. I think the carbon is just too fine and not letting the liquid through. Try less carbon and give it a shake when it slows completely.

      @@martinfairchild1479you guys should do what I do instead- just use your still spirits filter but run a litre through THREE times or even 4 times through the SAME carbon filter. It works a proper treat. Do not use 1 carbon filter per 1 litre. That’s a total waste of a carbon filter. I found out because I couldn’t afford to buy more carbon filters, so I started running the same litre through three times and it cleaned it up brilliant. Try it? It works fine I can promise you. It saves a load of money on the carbon filters. I hate to say it but I think they just say 1 filter to 1 litre so they can sell more filters. I have found that the same filter continues to filter each time. 👍

      Do what I do. Run a litre through the normal carbon filter 3 or even 4 times. I have found that the filter continues to filter each time no problem at all. It saves you a lot of money too. It works fine I promise you! 👍

    Its coming through really slow any ideas why.

    • @MrJackson66
      @MrJackson66 2 роки тому +1

      Just means it is filtering.... If it comes through fast, then it means the wash is running down the sides of the tube, not thru the carbon, and thus not filtering...

    • @Dylinto
      @Dylinto 11 місяців тому

      @@MrJackson66 i get that but is it supposed to take 24hrs to run through each time?

    • @MrJackson66
      @MrJackson66 11 місяців тому

      @@Dylinto not usually that long no... I guess it would depend on the thickness of the carbon layer and the length of the column and the course ness of the carbon.. I filter 5 gallons at a time in a 24" long 2" column 3/4 full of carbon, and it will take about 3 hours give or take.

    If you're not distilling (for legal reasons), can you just run a 20% abv through the carbon filter to clean it, and then use that to make a kind of "low alcohol" spirit? Is there any other way to get a clean taste (which you can then add flavours to) whilst avoiding the legal issues of home distillation? Is it true that distillation is illegal (in the UK) even if it's just for personal consumption?

    • @ChrisSPCs
      @ChrisSPCs 2 роки тому

      Yes, distillation is the specifically illegal act in home brewing. Making a wash is completely legal. What are you using to make a 20% wash?
      I would probably recommend other filtration, the best way at least as far as Ive found is to DIY your own using the bags of activated charcoal that lovebrewing still sell. Run it through multiple times and itll be effectively tasteless and fine to drink.

    I already have a Spiritworks Granular filter but it doesn't have stainless steel mesh filter and bits of carbon do get into the spirit. Where can I get a stainless mesh filter from?

    • @exaisle
      @exaisle 4 роки тому

      You can buy them on the lovebrewing website but they're out of stock :-( I have the same problem...when I bought mine, it didn't come with any mesh filter and they recommended using paper similar to coffee filter paper. That worked fine, but took forever. I just found it was easier and quicker to let a few grains of carbon fall through and pass the spirit through a very fine mesh nylon filter afterwards. If you're stuck I dare say you could use the material used in teabags...

    Mine is constantly leaking at the bottom so I'm losing quite a bit of alcohol which is peeing me off a bit..I've tried everything...there's no carbon in the threads yet its constantly leaking so I don't feel like a winner...it leaks through the nipple at th bottom then so.etumes it overflows....

    • @LoveBrewing

      We have found if this is the case then if you put 2 washers in at the bottom it solves the problem. Let us know when you are ordering and we will add one free to your order. email info@lovebrewing.co.uk

      15-20 minutes at a full rolling boil, then let it sit 10 minutes and the nastiness will be floating on the top of the water. Either use up paper towels to soak up the stuff and throw away, or just add water and make it runn off and out. Then throw in an oven at the highest setting, until it is visibly dry, then let it go another 30 minutes and turn off the oven, let it sit in the oven until cool, then vacuum seal til next time...
