the part where the guy was cheering milo up was totally scripted,to really test it out they should've let some random person from the audience step up and give it a try.
***** Peter Molyneux makes great games. He made the only game I ever played with AI you could teach and shape through your interaction. Yes I know who Peter Molyneux is. He makes games that aren't COD clones. Microsoft never intended to fund his vision. After he demo'd it they told him to go make a kinect fable game.
It apparently "worked" but he thought the world isn't or wasn't ready for Milo. He thought interacting with a kid was odd being placed next to a bunch of shooters. So Microsoft shelved the idea and then StarWars Kinect is life
They canceled it because its a made up fucking fairy tale bullshit game. Even if it worked like this and was real who would want to play with a boy machine besides diddlers or mom's whose kids died?
@Tollaneri : Its because they haven't tuned their rendering system correctly yet. In real-time computer graphics , real-time shadows like you see can be very expensive (resource wise). Most current generation engines have a cascading approach, the closer you are to something the more detailed the shadows appear . Consequently the further you go away , the less shadow details are visible. They haven't got the blending between cascade steps correct in this case. So its noticeable. Hope this helps.
Finally, with GPT and AI voice generation, a game like this could be 100% possible and ten times better than the fake demo. Not to say that the real demo was bad; it looked like a good game for its time.
This tech could be implemented with decision making such as RPGs like Mass Effect and Bioware. Unfortunately it's too expensive atm to get Kinect for voice recognition gameplay which could be done by selecting choices on the screen with an analog stick.
It's Molyneux. Lots of people might not know this, but he is a one trick pony. He goes on about how his latest product will be wonderful, best thing ever. It isn't by a long shot, and he apologises about that while saying "Oh the next thing is so fantastic, best thing ever" and rinse and repeat. The sad thing is so many people see this trend and still believe him.
this isnt any difference from rpg's now. instead of selecting an available comment as in Fallout 4, Mass effect, Walking dead,.. you're just giving the command through voice recognition. he's not actually understanding whatever you're saying, he only has a few programmed responses. that's nothing like a breakthrough or artificial intelligence, it's just an RPG combined with siri
This guy is such a dreamer who overcomplicates everything, there was something else a few years back that he dreamed up, I forget what It was but we never saw it released. The old milo demo was clearly a scripted fake, we know that now by knowing the distance you need to stand infront of the camera,
I remember Tamagotchi, a simple virtual pet, that got some people crazy over it, even develop emotional attachment with it. If this is real, I can imagine those who have difficulty getting real friends might be friend this virtual thing. Anyway it going to react/learn/adapt to the live "partner" who interact with it. It can be good or bad depend how you use it.
Molyneux should be applauded for his exploratory spirit. There's not enough of that in the gaming industry. Contrast this with Blizzard for example which came up with a few hits and now just grinds on their success and churns out sequels never trying anything new and risky.
@nohiro It's not intended to be an AI, it's supposed to be a demonstration of how natural human communication can be used to make interface with machines more compatible with the way human's naturally manipulate things in the real world and communicate.
He actually left Lionhead Studios recently. I'm hoping now that they won't spend so much time hyping games they'll be able to really develop another Fable game with depth. That is, assuming they even make another one.
Thumbs up if you're sick of this guy hyping up games and software that would be fine in it's own right, if he didn't come along and blow it out of proportion.
@mooxim Tone and a few key phrases. When Milo and Demitri start talking in his room the first thing Demitrisi says has the word "parents" in it and Milo's response is something like "Why'd they want to come here anyway?" I bet that was a pre-scripted response to anything with an assuring tone containing the word parents, mom, or dad, or anything like that What would have been interesting is to play the game side by side and on one be reassuring and on the other be "yea, your life sucks"
This video is not about Milo or Kinect or smart AI (Which btw are all smokes and mirrors) but the highlight of this video is seeing Peter The Pathological Liar hard at work trying to convince his lies to the world.
too bad this was a scam and never came out. I can't believe people thought we had ai like this a decade ago even though we're only now finally being able to create something close to these lies
I love the potential and direction that this is heading. Hopefully in a couple years or so this will evolve into an awesome medium between the gamer and the game. Like Peter said, this is all just a trick, just like how you do a magic trick for a kid, its not real, it just seems like it is, and for intensive purposes, it is. Just like alot of things in games and programming. Peter hasn't had the best track record, granted, but Fable has won more then its share of praise, give him a chance.
Cloud-based AI has incredible potential. I see it working sort of as error reports in Windows. Every time Milo doesn't understand a word or phrase it gets forwarded to MS who then updates Milo's voice recognition on their servers. The more people play, the more realistic Milo becomes over time.
@CaelanMT Yeah, same here. I loved B&W (bought the "expansion"), despite all its AI glitches and worthless "armies". But the Fable hype really broke any semblance of trust I had for the guy. I mean, Fable was fun, but hardly the "OMGWTFBBQ" groundbreaking RPG he promised. I didn't even buy Fable 2, but tried it out at a friend's and was glad I didn't buy it.
@lordhaku I'm using an open forum of opinions, opinions formulated by real, living human beings. Commenters are not bundles of complex code designed to give the semblance of sentience (unless they're spambots hur hur hur), but people connected THROUGH bundles of complex code. And, just to clarify, I don't equate commenting with true social interaction.
Listen to him asking what he is going to do (squash or not) and he then said squash randomly. I heard that at E3 2009 there was a guy in the back controling Milo. I think it may have been a signal for the (curtain guy) or him telling him what to do.
@johsy me too, just compare actual games to the games developped 20 years ago, gaming has come a long way and I hope it keeps on geting more and more exciting.
@lordhaku You're right, UA-cam is no place to define the divide between 'us' and 'it'. But yes, humans do have what you might call programming in the non-traditional sense, the difference, with regard to traditional programming, is that we're not (yet) in control of our coding. One of my main problem with Milo style tech is that it's purely experimental, with no practical applications.
