for sure its not about being cheap. Its hard to schedule a specific job sometimes. Its easier to call a crane. But some times access and time are a factor. I put two 4ton packaged units up to a one story roof with ropes and pulleys. Electrical power lines in the way. No access for a crane unless we scheduled with our local power company to remove the power lines temporarily. with some rigging we got it done.
I built one similar, it hooks onto either a step ladder or a straight ladder and uses a manual winch that I hooked my drill to make it automatic. Worked great, only used it once. 😂 I liked your video👍🏻👍🏻.
Lol, we have account where I work at. They have about 30 of those compressors on the roof. They actually installed a chain fall at the roof hatch. They got tired of paying for a crane I guess.
Yea man for sure. I don’t mind paying for a crane. But a crane sometimes is a hassle. I am always on the go. When the crane shows up 30 minutes late it throws me off. I hate relying on others to make my dollar. So if I can get the motor or compressor up to the roof! I’m on it 100%!
They really don’t understand that once you’ve been up there and got over being uneasy, it’s no issue Put a 2x6 on the ground and walk on it with out touching ground, that how easy it is for us

My brother always says why bother? I always yell back; IT'S CODE!!! Really, I imagine the ladder sliding off. He just shakes his head and says, it's not even windy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
To each his own I guess, I fell 15 ft off a laddder, one of those straight up with a cage, I was uneasy for a few months after I healed, but after that, I feel like I could do cartwheels off one again
I use the unistrut rig set up and tie off to a condenser stand. What ever new part you are bringing up. Usually you need to bring the old one down. So it can get used as a counter weight. It could be a big motor, a condenser, or compressor. Also roof hatches are easy. Put 2 A framed ladders. Then add a length of unistrut across. You now have a lift. Bring everything up the hatch.

Red electric with $90 Hoist/arm thing $50 Galvanized pipe $50 Uninstrut. $30 Total. $ 220 Everything gets reused on the next project or job. I modify things in different ways for different projects.
The company supplied the winch and material. I picked everything out though. From getting everything out of the van then having all my tools etc up on the roof and ready to start compressor change out was about 1.5hrs. It was easier than expected. I checked out the job before and had a plan in my head. I already knew where to get power and what tools I needed for the job ahead of time. I got to the job at 7am I was cleaned up and back in my van leaving the job at 3-3:30pm. Thanks for checking out my video
I assume the vertical galv. pipe was was just standard schedule 40 from the plumbing section? it looks a bit bendy/springy/flexy, some ways to stiffen it, double it with smaller pipe size inside(heavy though) or find square metal tube metal that fits inside fairly tight (weights less than double pipe, still heavy) . there's always aluminum square tubing, but you have to worry about galvanic corrosion. alternate to that wood dowels. for lol's fill the pipe with concrete mix and have co-worker carry it :))
Maybe pvc pipe will work good. Hahaha. That galvanize pipe is 1-1/2”. That pipe has some balls to it. I think what made it flexy was the fact that it was strapped to the ladder. The straps had a little play in them. Yes the pipe is regular schedule 40. But it’s the American made version. Not the Chinese made pipe. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching, The yellow thing is a cooling tower. This particular cooling tower is made by Protec. It does not look like your usual square cooling towers. But it works the same. This particular tower the warm water returns back then up the center of the cooling tower. Just below the big fan is a big sprinkler head kind of thing that distributes the water over the fill inside the cooling tower. The distributor head spins in a circular motion. This is not driven by any motor. A place called northern tools sells the swing arm in a kit. The electric hoist is sold as a separate item. And the 2” pipe is also sold separate. You can get from your local hardware shop.
Yep I do. Lol. The reason why I answered the other comment as the company bought the parts is because technically all the parts in the video were purchased through the company. Hahaha. I usually don’t say it’s my company unless they ask me straight out. I have customers that after a year of servicing their facility they are just realizing I’m the owner. I don’t like to say it. I am more low key. At the end of the day I’m a service tech like everyone else. Good catch though. :)
