Eh...there were two alien apocalypses in that time span, one of which reverted humanity back to the Middle Ages (and was then wiped out again). Given that culturally the Earth is basically the 1960s again, it's less about direct intellectual advancement and knowledge and more 'hey we built back using fancy tech we found'. So having newspapers around isn't too out of left field for Futurama.
I think my favorite thin about Bender is that his lack of humanity is prevalent enough to remind you he sees the world through a robot's lens, but he's still relatable enough that it doesn't feel like we're constantly being nagged about how he's a robot. It's the kind of balance most comic relief characters miss entirely.
