german dub was even better, they called it VoalGDH, and in the end revealed what it meant, which was short for von alliierten gefangener deutscher hase. 'from allies captured German Rabbit.'
It even made it into Webster's online dictionary of computing: "(From "Hogan's Heroes", the TV series) A pretentious piece of equipment that actually serves no useful purpose. Usually used to describe one's least favourite piece of computer hardware." 😂

John Banner, who played Sgt. Schultz, was a Jewish Austrian who fled to the United States in 1938 to escape the nazi annexation of Austria. He served in the United States Army Air Corps for three years in the war against Hitler until 1945. He also lost many family members during the Holocaust. He knew how deadly the nazis were and chose to make fun of them playing Sgt. Schultz in Hogan's Heros and to show not all Germans were nazis because he never considered Sgt. Schultz as one.
My mom was German she grew up during WW2,and I remember the first time she saw Hogan's heroes, and she laughed so hard,it was the episode where they portrait Hitler, and she said I wish that he could've seen that, and she laughed hard,of course it's just a show, and very funny at that
I remember seeing this for the first time in the early 90s. The look on Hogan and his mens faces as they looked down at the steaming clothes made me laugh out loud, and I'm German.
The other twist of the episode if you’re familiar with history is the stalag they were in was one of the tougher ones were things like this wouldn’t have happened. Sort of a way to make light of shitty times.
8/16/2024. I bought a Gonculator. $13.99 but must add tax. A it is used for a submarine. Oh, please do not laugh. A Gonculator is real. German model, yes better build, but the cost, wow. American dollars, $31.77. ouch!
They are no longer legal in the US, but China has begun copying & producing them. There's a guy on ebay selling it. Of course, they aren't as good as the German models.
Actually they did. In the real "Great Escape", the prisoners at the Luft Stallag took out light bulbs and fixtures, and ran spliced wires down into their escape tunnels to give the diggers and later the escapees light to see their way along the passage.
I hear the original audio for the fist time and and must say, the laughter is obnoxious. The German version doesn’t have any and is way nicer because of it.
My favorite thing about this episode is how none of the Germans want to admit that they have NO clue WTF a "gonculator" is.

As narcissistically ignorantly arrogant as our current maga nazis are today.
Klink: Where's Major Lutz?
Hogan: He's been gonculated, sir.
When I was in high school (1980-1984), some guys called a calculator a “gonculator.” I never knew it came from this show.
It even made it into Webster's online dictionary of computing: "(From "Hogan's Heroes", the TV series) A pretentious piece of equipment that actually serves no useful purpose. Usually used to describe one's least favourite piece of computer hardware." 😂
@@ShatnerMethod I might just start doing that at some point
I'd forgotten about that, thanks

Now research the interocitor

Legendary behavior from a man who had reason to act otherwise. 👏
Klink fled also from the Nazis and Burghalter lost his Family in Auschwitz.
One of my favorite episodes. I still laugh out loud when Major Lutz is found to have been vaporized 😂
There’s no gonculator that can compete with a German gonculator!
The manufacturers will somehow be allowed to survive the war and go on to greatness!!

I love this show I watch it over and over all the time ✅🇯🇲
A brilliant show of how bureaucracy and fear makes authoritarian regimes inefficient.
This has to be the funniest episode of all. The krauts have no idea what a gonkulator is, but they insist on saying, "but our's is better".
Klink's recoiling in fear when the gonculator is plugged in is priceless
Well, he *is* proven right, once he sees the smoking pile of clothes... or so he thinks, I guess.
As was his screaming to pull the plug!
Gonculator: Gone, see you later
It should be noted that Major Lutz is played by Noam Pitlik, who also played the German spy, Wagner in the pilot episode titled "The Informer".
He won an Emmy for directing an episode of Barney Miller
I like thinking of the studio's prop department crew dinking around to turn out what would pass as a WW2 gonculator.

that was smooth as hell
Carter was the highest ranking enlisted man in the group. The others shouldn't have been so disrespectful to him.
Yeah but he was the dumb one of the group.
@theunknowncommenter725 He was the munitions expert and the bombardier on the crew. He was no dummy.
Gonculated....⚡💨
I'm still trying to find merkle-jammers. They're as rare as hen's teeth.

I down sized in houses because of age. I now live in Sgt. Schultz's old house.
Major Lutz got gonkulated.
Luftwaffe POW's hat access to electricity

Das stirbt einfach einer das finde ich nicht so schön😢
Muss man genauer hinschauen 😂
