    In this video I will be reacting to my old ballet videos! How did I perform on stage before, how confident was I in front of the audience? Yes, I am incredibly embarrassed to watch these videos now, because then I was completely different and inexperienced! Being a ballerina is quite difficult, and everyone started somewhere. And I am no exception. And today I will watch my old videos when I just started to be a ballerina! If you want to know how my journey as a real ballerina began, then watch this video from start to finish!

    I grew up dancing ballet, from 6 to 17, was a soloist in a small company (until I had to retire bc of a hip injury that I'm still dealing with at age 38,getting a total replacement in a few years). Anyway, I only THOUGHT I was good and here you are at 13, dancing like a literal angel. None of this is cringe, you are far too hard on yourself. I see zero cringe! this was adorable and honestly... shocking to me! lolol at 14 i was getting in trouble for smoking week behind the bleachers at school and Maria was a full on STAR!! She looked dedicated, committed and a little nervous but she still looked like she was loving it. Just wow! i loved it and YES WE WANT TO HEAR ALL THE STORIES! What was it like in school? was this a school for ballet where you learned your other material too? or did you go to another school for things like math and reading ect. Im SO interested in your schooling experience, did you like it or hate it at that time?

    • @roastedpepper
      @roastedpepper 10 місяців тому +4

      I mean I’m not her but as for how her schooling worked… She went to Vaganova, which is a ballet academy in St. Petersburg, so it’s focus is on ballet. However it is also a regular school, meaning they have to take and pass all the required regular subjects (math, literature etc)… but ballet is the focus and the rest of the school day is built around it. It is basically middle + high school (6-12th grades, but 6th=1st grade). There are dorms if you’re from far away, but Maria is from St Petersburg so she lived at home. Hope this helped a bit. There are also plenty of videos on UA-cam about what a day is like at Vaganova. I believe even Maria has one.
      Edit: just wanted to add this. Even just to get into Vaganova is extremely competitive. There are auditions and they accept based on potential determined by body type (flexibility, turnout, etc)… only 20-60% (depending on the year) of students actually graduate. A lot are expelled if they don’t progress.

    Loved hearing your interpretation of your growth as a dancer in school. It was so cute to see your reaction as well when you watched yourself. Yes, would love to see more!

    Ballet is underrated! I see men get bullied for dancing ballet which is frustrating because it’s demanding and requires strength etc not just anyone can do it. I took a few classes when I was young and miss it!

    Wow! I can’t believe you were able to be so accomplished as a pianist along with dance. I had to drop piano to concentrate on ballet. I’m amazed at your lovely videos from your youth. I wish I had some from my young days.

      Well Vaganova does require piano as a class… but obviously she took lessons before she started Vaganova as she described. But yea. Super talented.

    Think you did amazing in that first clip from the Nutcracker! You were so young at the time and hadn’t danced for nearly as long as you have now. Your body and your dancing was still very much developing when you were just 12 years old! You did things at that age that a majority of adults wouldn’t be able to do

    You are so beautiful and talented! Please show us more! I loved every single second. I say to you: be so proud of each stage of your journey and enjoy yourself! It's so much fun that you have so much to look back at and see your growth. Regret not a single bobble or misaligned toe. Smile kindly at the younger you for she is what gave you your foundation. You will always have a 'younger' you. A 'younger' you that holds you up as you grow. Each stage is precious, as precious as you are today. I look forward to seeing more.

    I did ballet as a little girl. I wanted to be a ballerina so badly. I did ballet from 3 to 7 years of age and then I quit on my own. My parents were divorced and I had to miss so many lessons because of visitation with my father I just couldn’t keep up with the other dancers and I gave up on myself. I so regret that now. Now I’m in nursing and want to be a doctor the idea I wanted to be a ballerina is very comical to me. Though I still respect the dance. It’s the only dance I really am fascinated by I actually hate musicals and don’t like dancing so it’s very ironic I wanted to be a ballerina as a kid. But even with how impartial I am to most dancing I still find ballet to be beautiful.

      I TOTALLY feel you... I began dancing around 6 years old and I sucked for a long time (I was pigeon toed and flat footed- so the docs told my mom to put me into ballet to help my muscles in these areas - it worked, but I still was pretty low in my class. It tool an injury, a lot Pilates and a new perspective to make great improvements in about a year and a half. I didn't end up going professional... I was very close.. but life had other things in store for me 😊
      But I wanted to mention, that whole I loved dancing ballet I LOATHED other types...especially contemporary like people dancing 😂 Over time I finally got better at jazz and modern dance, but man, I really had to put on an "act" to "dance" without set choreography!
      Good luck in your journey to become a doctor! ❤ Be sure to look into nutrition as I understand that's not addressed in the schools much. God bless!

    absolutely adorable and very uncringe throughout. Loved the piano too and for someone who can’t play a single thing from memory, not kidding, it was astounding! Loved your commentary & recollections, being ill, pirouettes difficult in the pink costume, love of the blue floaty costume (although to me it looked not dissimilar to me to a practice leotard. Really lovely to watch, all of it. Ps you are critical of yourself (plus amused) but so beautifully complimentary about everyone else! 🥰
