- Evan Mobley could be up for a rookie max extension but can he meet the expectations to earn that contract?
Donovan Mitchell isn’t the only player that the Cleveland Cavaliers need to give attention to on the contract extension front. Evan Mobley is eligible to sign a max-rookie extension this offseason and working out a deal between the two sides needs to be high on the front office's list.
ESPN’s Brain Windhorts reported in the middle of May that Mobley is likely to get a max-extension offer from the Cavs before he hits restricted free agency in 2025. But what exactly could that deal look like?
A precedent for what Mobley’s extension could be like may have already been set with another player from the same draft class agreeing to deal on Monday afternoon.
Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes reportedly agreed to a five-year maximum rookie extension that could be worth up to $270 million on Monday afternoon.

3rd team is all i see with him in the time of his contract. it's still a fairly big checklist of things he's gotta checkoff to get there, but I'm not saying I dont see it happening.
Edit: check that, DPOY is also easily in his sights probably more than 3rd team. It's just a bad coincidence that Wemby came into the league at the time Mobley now has to break out

We don’t have any 1st round picks we can trade. They all belong to Utah or they are pick swaps with Utah for many years to come.

How on earth is Evan worth a max contract? He is a high upside serviceable role player, but he is barely a top 100 player at this point. His contract should be 5 years 120 million at best. He is no where near a max player at this stage of his career. An Rj Barrett, Tyler herro contract is far more appropriate. I hartenstein is a good comp for what his deal should look like . And let’s stop with this garland nonsense. He has to be traded asap. You can’t have a 6-3 and 6-1 guard as your 1 and 2. Mitchell and garland are both exponentially better when they are on the court without the other. Garland is a massive defensive liability and can’t play off ball because he is too small to guard 1’s much less 2’s. Ship out Garland this is really simple.

@jefflilly2001 no one said it was simple... that's probably why it's not been done yet. Their numbers together suggest there is a possibility it works but a lot of people think it won't regardless of advanced stats. The truth is, Altman and company are going to see this iteration through next year with a new coach and reevaluate... that's the only simple part, give it one more year and if the coach wasn't the issue, go from there.
