- Labour is considering renewing the definition of Islamophobia, despite warnings it could stifle free speech.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his deputy, Angela Rayner, are exploring whether to introduce a formal description of anti-Muslim prejudice.
While not legally binding, the definition would encourage organisations to adopt it, similar to the anti-Semitism definition introduced under Theresa May in 2016.
Supporters argue it's necessary to combat rising anti-Muslim attacks, especially after the Southport killings last week.
However, critics, including senior Conservatives, fear it could become a "blasphemy law" and suppress valid criticism of Islam.
Labour previously backed a similar definition while in opposition, with current Health Secretary Wes Streeting leading the charge.
