Capo and start higher up when beginning. The hardest chords to barre are on the first fret.

Very good point actually. I often start students with the chords to Hotel California- so the capo is at 2 which makes the F easier. Thanks

Thanks for the cool lesson. I need to start on this. Harder than it looks but will stick at it. I am running out of open chord songs.I learnt to play Summer Breeze by seals and crofts using open chords( strumming only no finger picking) but these Barr chords are a different beast. I am a drummer but have always loved guitar also. I have had a Maton guitar gently weeping on my stand for years and it’s only now that i am thinking if I don’t start learning it will never happen. Musically I am born again as of it. Thanks again subscribed.

I’m enjoying your lessons just want to add that as season changes our setup may change. I had a LP clone that I could not get to chord, 1/8 turn of truss rod with proper measurement at correct fret and it’s now a dream. This got me to checking all my guitars, all styles have unique set up procedures, the most minute changes made a huge difference. One I could not make a bar chord on became a favorite of bar chord practice. Research your style guitar get measurements and fret to measure. This man knows how to play bar chords! Don’t fight your guitar, love it’s setup.

I have been playing for over 50 years and now I am getting even more into my guitar playing. Barre chords have always been an issue but I never gave up on them. I have found many helpful techniques to better play them, but your video is well done and encapsulates all those tips into one. I really like the idea of the dropped shoulder which is similar to the pushing the guitar ahead method and will try that that. I am also now investing in a foot stool. Good Job Chris! Thank You!

Nice job, after nearly 2 1/2 years I finally can play barre chords. For me it was about technique not strength, I found when I relaxed and with little pressure if rang out clear

So my problem is the creases in my finger joints, they don’t depress the string enough. I’ve moved my hand up and down, but so far no success. Any ideas on a fix?

Unfortunately, Beginners in India aren't aware of the ideal action on the Guitar which should be anything less than 4mm and shopkeepers are also selling Guitars with high action which is really limiting to the Beginner Guitar players as they can only play open chords on it. Moreover, I think you have won half of the battle if your action is set up low.
