Oh my gosh!!! Thanks a lot about your great lesson my amazing teacher i would rather you kept teaching us what we don't know coz we do have a knowledge about English so i would rather you spoke about other mistakes we proper make when speaking
Hello Greg, Only just come across you're videos which are great especially this one Will, must, should, might may etc. My only suggestion is will doesn't really feature, may be you will do another video, where will, will feature? Many thanks Jane
He could’ve collapsed, therefore he must’ve fell down on the road, losing his senses. He might’ve had some help from people walking along the road or people driving theirs cars, calling 999 to get an ambulance and help from medical staff. At the end, he must’ve been taken to the hospital and hopefully the gentleman might’ve recovered. Thank you!
Hello Greg ! Been watching your gallery of videos for quite some time now, and just saying I am more than pleased with them would be unfair. I must say that I have been able to understand a bunch of unclear things that I have been living with since college. This video about modals certainly brought me to light, thanks a lot. Nevertheless, I have a special favor to ask regarding modals, it is about those in past for speculation. I just hope I am not asking too much of you.
According to grammar books modals in basic form say about present situation or sometimes, rarely about future. Ex. I can sing today or tomorrow but not yesterday. Something is not said about modals in your explanation. Can you answer me what is a status of modals in the future meaning?
interestingly the modal verb should is in polish powinien, and winien means guilty or obliged. guilty in German is schuldig, so it looks that the original meaning of should was "is obliged to" or better "owes to"and this is where "ought to" comes from.
Dear Greg! My question is about “ need” as a modal! Would you be so kind as to clarify it for my students! and me!?! I’ve applied to you in many of your videos but still I haven’t got any answer. I am from Moscow. May be this is the problem?!? According to the rules NEED as a MODEL verb can be used only in negative and interrogative sentences!?? Thank you in advance!
Hi Greg. Usually I don't accept this game with so-called homework. However, it's more foggy and gloomy than I have known about modal verbs and consequently used. So, here is my h/w; take a look, please. And also other virtual students, please. Every correction and short note is highly appreciated. So, someone sees a moveless man on the road and think: 1. It seems, he might have a stroke, it's so hot now. 2. I think he must have had a heart attack. 3. It looks for me this guy must have been hit by the car; it's quite typical hit and run scene. THANK YOU!
Some would argue there is no future tense in English, only various ways of referring to future time. Spanish has a future tense eg "hablo" is "I talk":: "hablare" is I will talk. "Will" is an non-tensed modal verb expressing certainty in future time. The verbs are unchanged. In Mandarin none of the verbs have tense.
Hi Greg, Could you able to explain me this whole sentence -- "Hardly ever before in history can the decision to embroil a great nation in war have been taken so wantonly and with so little excuse." And also, what is meant by "...and with so little excuse" This sentence I have picked up from Cambridge dictionary. The sentence is made using the word "embroil". I know the meaning of the word "embroil", but I cannot able to apprehend the whole sentence structure. Thank you in anticipation.☺☺☺
Im not sure 100% sure, I’m still learning and investigating this but I think for me you use “will have” if you’re talking about the future like predicting something which it hasn’t happened yet… and you use “would have” if you’re talking about the past For example: “should I wake up early tomorrow?” “Yes you should! If you wake up late the train WILL HAVE left” I don’t know why he used “will have” in the past tense I think he’s just explaining how the say “‘ve” but not explaining it clearly --------------------- This is talking about the past for example: “Hey how was the party last night?” “The party was okay but it WOULD’VE been great if there was a DJ so we could dance and would be enjoyable”
3:08 why "they will be" and not "they are" tourist? For me, it seems not logical to use a future tense instead of a present tense ('they are') or maybe a modal verbe (i.g. 'they should be')
I have a question, please. Isn't*might*in the past in origine ? So it does not need have to become in the past. Second, I know that verb will becomes in the past would not will have.
Will/Shall Must Should Might May Would Could Can't Won't Probability order:- They will be tourists. They must be lost. They should be at the hotel now. He might be English. He may come from Ireland. He could be Scottish. He can't be Italian. He must be Italian. How you use modal verbs in past? He must've spoken. They should've arrived. The train will have already left. You must've woken up late. Agra could've been a battleground. 3 of the post may have had spiritual significance. The ring might've been left incomplete. He won't have gone. He mustn't have gone. He shouldn't have gone. He couldn't have gone. He mightn't have gone. He may not have gone.
He shouldn't have gone alone. He might have fainted. He couldn't have had his breakfast n so he fainted on the middle of the road. He may not have taken care while crossing the road n some motorist might have touched him down. He will have to be very careful on the road specially while crossing from one side to the other. He will not have reached the train station in time. So he missed the train.

Hello Greg!
How correctly to distinguish future tense from probability?
@English with Greg have the same question.
How about « would » ? Is it a modal verb as well?
Hello sir, I am from India(West Bengal).
Sir please make a video on semi modal(dare, need, use to).
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
very helpful!!
Hi Greg, Could you able to explain me this whole sentence -- "Hardly ever before in history can the decision to embroil a great nation in war have been taken so wantonly and with so little excuse."

This sentence I have picked up from Cambridge dictionary. The sentence is made using the word "embroil". I know the meaning of the word "embroil", but I cannot able to apprehend the whole sentence structure.

I believe "May" comes above "Might" in the hierarchy of Probability from higher to lower.
Great! Very useful lesson. Thank you!
❤❤❤❤ ❤ You rock 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
oh
this is a pre corona lesson . i,ve just seen

Hi Teacher Greg could I ask?
Why you used will in past?
1) the train will have already left
And not The train would have already left?
REAL POSSIBILITIES
1.He might've drunk, he shouldn't have drunk.
2.he must have an accident, he could have been more careful.
3. I may have understood every thing.
Perfect lesson sir please could explain differences between racially ethnically descendants
Hi teacher Greg could I ask?
Why, The train will have left
And not (would have left)?

Hi. I know that might is less probable than may, but in your video it's higher in the table...
Congratulation Professor. How do you pronounce ``I want'' and `` I won't ''? do they sound the same?
The difference is in "O" sound. In "won't" it sounds like in alphabet, in "want" it is like in "gone"
