The now rare, classic Santa Fe "War Bonnet" scheme is one of or perhaps the greatest paint scheme of all time. Our neighbors to the north. CN and CP know a thing or two about a classy scheme.
As one from Chicagoland, I can tell you the UP heritage locomotive is a genuine article. A year before the C&NW was taken over, they made one last purchase for new locomotives: the CW44-9! Bought specifically for hauling Powder River Basin coal drags, they featured safety cabs and a brand new paint job! UP 1995 is currently wearing the same scheme as the CW44-9's! That may explain why your not familiar to it. It is a beautiful new pattern of colors, but its future is short lived. I think that is why Uncle Pete picked it: to show that there is at least one railroad they to over that was still toward thinking!🙃
Do you mean to say UP recently repainted 1995 to match the last C&NW GE units? If so, good. I'm asking because this "Heritage" vulgarity bears little resemblence to C&NW's final paint scheme; not even close. It is in fact almost insulting. Norfolk & Southern did it right with their Heritage units.
I have not seen the Chicago and Northwestern Unit yet but I hope it will visit Southwest Virginia soon! Anyways about your video on the stored locomotives, NS put out notice on Jan 10 that the NS SD70M-2s will be back in status soon!
What was on fire was the FM radio station’s antenna, not the transmitter. It was a 4 bay antenna meaning that there are four radiating elements. It looks like each of the four elements were covered by what’s called a radome which is made from some type of plastic. My guess is that the connection between the antenna element and the transmission line that feeds power to the element failed causing some serious heating which in turn set the radome on fire. That should have caused the transmitter to turn itself off, removing power from the antenna.
the EDM SD70T4 doesn't have the classic EMD sound because its not a 645 or 710 2 stroke but instead a 4 stroke based on their 90s attempt to build a 6000hp engine.
There is a old CNW switcher south of Columbus Nebraska. I passed by as it was parked used to shag grain cars. Wish i would have had time to get a good look at it
I watch Virtual Railfan and my favorite site is Rochelle, IL. I stay in Central North Carolina, but this engine Northwestern 1995 is the most requested train Engine in all of the Rochelle bypassing trains on the BNSF cross over of UP at the diamond. Chicago/Northwestern Line famous for trains many years ago. But to see this engine close up was a real treat today, Thank you for doing this video today. I will speak to those fans later today about your video, cause many will want to see this engine upclose and personal. Thanks again V12 PRODUCTIONS.
Love seeing that UP 1995 locomotive. I grew up with C&NW tracks behind my home and watched some of their locomotives switching local industries after they merged with UP. The CW44-9s never made appearances near me, but the color scheme definitely fits. Looking forward to seeing the rebuilt Metra SD70s grace the Chicago area soon!
Actually it is only one of five of the six heritage units that the Union Pacific has. The 1983 had some kind of engine fire and they don't even plan on replacing it or repairing it
I literally missed 1995 coming back west on one of my many local mainlines (that being the UP Geneva Sub) this weekend along with NS 1069 and NS 1800 lol. But yesterday on MLK Jr day I was on the Geneva at elmhurst and I randomly saw NS 1073 LEADING a stack train! That was the highlight of my weekend so I’m glad I got to see an HU as I haven’t seen an NS HU in literally years! I’m glad you got 1995 too along with a fresh C6M as this is one of its first time going as foreign power ever since it broke down a while back! Edit: also thanks for mentioning metra 90! It’s another one of my favorite metra HUs and recently it also broke down and I didn’t even realize until it “came back into service” lol
Yeah, you sure did miss 1995 like crazy. I saw it at Proviso on an inbound. It went to the diesel shop for servicing. by the next day it was gone on an outbound. I assumed it went south on MPRAS. Yours truly's claim to fame is i got to pick 1995 up from the diesel ramp to place it on the out bound North Platte or Council Bluff train, i forget which, for it's maiden voyage. Three days later on the return trip to Proviso, the cab reeked of urine. Lost its new smell quick. I love telling that story.
Greetings Charlie. I actually had the fortunate privilege of seeing those same CN units this past Saturday. They were assigned to a CSX B train destined for Lawrenceville, GA, with the M-2 put on the head end and that C44-9W set as a rear-DPU. God bless, my friend.
There is 8 cnw somewhere 5 cnw are in Illinois railroad museum and 1 gp9 in Georgia and 1 sd70ace , and last and not least is 1 cnw emd fp59 phi locomotive
Another excellent video! I really enjoy the information you pass on about the history of the equipment. Great video quality, clean audio and nice edits. Thank you for your work. Looking forward to the next one.
Isn’t the Chicago And North Western System was part of Norfolk Southern because the Chicago And North Western System was part of the Pennsylvania Railroad which is now Norfolk Southern. And if you look up Norfolk Southern’s Heritage Railroads and it will show that both the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Chicago And North Western System are both in Norfolk Southern’s Heritage. So it makes me puzzled to see the Chicago And North Western System being a Union Pacific Heritage Railroad instead of the Chicago And North Western System being a Norfolk Southern Heritage Railroad.
I grew up along one of Chicago & North Western’s commuter lines (west) and remember that paint scheme well. One of the best, so seeing that EMD with it made me smile. Now live in Roswell so will look for it on CSX rails. Great job!
I’ve missed the Katy heritage and the sp1996 in the last couple of months and it’s a bummer. Last “heritage or special” scheme I’ve caught was 1979 one scheme.
By the way my father worked for Chicago Western it's good to see the engines I have a couple of small images in my house and his memory I see a couple of them in the shock of the area there's a big yard
As a chicagoland railfan, Im familiar with the hartwell railroad. They have EJ&E 654 an EMD sd38 still in J colors. That and the CNW gp9 are the reason why I need to come out this summer!
I think UP 1995's pait job could've been the evolution of the paint job C&NW had on their GE AC4400CW units. It has similar lines, but just more green than yellow.
3:08. In the bg is a transport yard where they load/unload trucks and trains both. Though recently theres no containers there but theres sometimes a few container cars dropped there. I take the marta over there and im usually just staring out the windows just to see it.
Question how does CN mark engines the they received via ratl merger since the bought up the original buyers purchace or in the fact of Conrails sd80macs from ns and csx afgter the 2991 merger of bonrail
The transmitter was not on fire. The transmitter is down on a floor below the tower base. The high power signal goes up a transmission line from the transmitter to the antenna structure on the tower. In this case the antenna is made of several antennas in an array. The curly looking thing left after the piece dropped off is one of the antenna components. It would appear that the fiberglass radome which normally surrounds the antenna component caught fire. Either a malfunctioning deicer or a radio frequency power issue.
I wish you and your technology was around when Atlanta had their classic train terminals. The way you bring an entertaining story, we would all be the better for it.
As a Burlington Northern rail fan in Canton Illinois the only trains I see is kind of none but I do get a couple but I do know there is an old Burlington Northern Train number 1997 and although it's not green and it's black I still like it even though it looks like it's rusting away in the siding that has been placed there's also a little train depot right next to it but now it's just kind of turned into a little meeting place also we don't get very many trains but I was driving the thing on Google maps seeing our little area and I think it was an error but the rails were not connected at the railroad crossing lol but it's some I think error because I checked it in the rails were completely fine in the Burlington Northern engine look to be a switcher locomotive I don't know what types and sing it was all black and white it had Canton on the side and the number was on the cab and I don't know if the Burlington Northern engine was original number was actually 1997 but I don't know I think that was the original number of the train and also about the fire you talked about the radio transmission thing and I think caught on fire but anyways 🚂👍
Correct me please...1 29 corridor 1993 1994. I thought the Chicago Northwestern engines were brown and green maybe. More muted. No Yellow as I recall. Thanks
I grew outside of Chicago in Lombard, Illinois . And yes west bound trains traveled on the south track . Express trains RTA traveled in the center track . I fell in love with trains when I was a kid.
I love your video very good and I did get pics of -9,s when they came thru wisconsin in early 2000,s and yes this loco is very nice UP 1995 thank you !
I remember before CSX sold our panhandle line to my railroad (Florida Gulf And Atlantic FGAR), UP1995 visited my home town and crossed the famous Graffiti Bridge. I took a shitload of photos. Ironically, in 2018 (the year I caught 1995), our “Comic-Con” known by us as “Pensacon” had the colors of green and yellow, so it was interesting to find the Graffiti Bridge painted in CNW colors while lettered in white “Pensacon 18” with UP1995 passing over it.
I’ve actually got something involving with UP 1995. On the night of January 18th, 2023, I spotted UP 1995 in Caldwell, Idaho. And he was leading Union Pacific Intermodal ZBRG2.

Nice! I’ve seen 1995 before!
Thanks great cover
I laid rail for C&NW ( boutey welder) across Iowa 79-81 . Watched the fall ... got laid off and headed west!
I support right hand running on the Chicago Northwestern
Union Pacific ((UP) is one of the Nicest Looking Heritage Units on the High Rails right now. A Really Good Looking Unit. Thanks Charlie. 👍🙏
nice find of up 1995 it my fav to
I love your videos
I like that paint scheme on engine number UP 1995

Nice video! I caught UP 1995 twice.
Thanks for pointing out the jail building. Many videographers forget that.
I managed to find 2 SD70AHt4’s in the small town of New Haven. It’s when I caught the second one.
Actually it is only one of five of the six heritage units that the Union Pacific has. The 1983 had some kind of engine fire and they don't even plan on replacing it or repairing it
Great video, Charlie! Thanks for taking us on this fun tour of Atlanta's railroads. Good catch on the Northwestern loco! Dan Page
Thanks Dan!
Man right when I click on the video the intro gets me so excited
Also who else remembers when people were worried about UP 1995 being scrapped

You should really try to get a SD40-2 cold start, that would be cool ,
V12, awesome video! When I watch your videos I always learn something. Well done sir!

Awesome video, sir and great catch of the CN Engines and the UP SD70ACe #1995 CNW Heritage unit keep up the good work.
Action pack couple of days there. Thanks for posting🚂🇨🇦🇺🇲🚂🚒🚒
The more I watch your videos, the more I cant wait to visit the US for some rail fanning.
Glad to see 1995 back in action
Another excellent video! I really enjoy the information you pass on about the history of the equipment. Great video quality, clean audio and nice edits. Thank you for your work. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you!
I love how V12 packs so much content in a short video, short and sweet! Its awsome!
Awesome catch of 1995! Looks like you got 1995 on NS and yesterday I got NS 1068 on UP lol
Well done great catch on the video enjoy Watching and the information that you give...
Thanks!

Did you hear about the train derailment in Jenkinsburg, Ga because of a storm?
Legal jargon. They don't gaf about heritage. More to do with the lawyers
I’ve missed the Katy heritage and the sp1996 in the last couple of months and it’s a bummer. Last “heritage or special” scheme I’ve caught was 1979 one scheme.
Great shots. I pulled pins for the cnw back when sd40-2's ruled. Nice to see the shield.
I pulled pins when the SD38-2 ruled the hump. I just learned recently they got turned into slugs and now reside in North Platte.
By the way my father worked for Chicago Western it's good to see the engines I have a couple of small images in my house and his memory I see a couple of them in the shock of the area there's a big yard

Tim in Toronto Canada...
Another fine video knocked outta the park!! "Go, Braves!!"
Nice video sir. Very informative. 😉👍🏻🎥💯
Thanks 👍
@@v12productions you’re welcome 😉
Hey SMT Just wanna let you know that BNSF 7714 Is gone and is not in Mcdonough GA
Yesss!!!!
nice video

Btw heard anything on Southern Railway heritage unit ?
Thanks!
Last I heard the SOU unit was up at the NS shops in Altoona, PA.
@@v12productions thanks 🙏
SD70 AHT4 correct?

5:34 The timing of you noticed it just as the smoke was happening before it was a full on blaze it's perfect good reaction time
New years day was lucky for everyone I got to see 2 NS HUs in Roanoke LV in shops and PC leading 61U.
Big fan
It's always good to know your way around Atlanta to make chases successful. Nice work on the UP1995 !
Great video. Caught 1995 in Wheaton IL on the old CNW line last summer.
Nice video! That was a good fire catch. You were in the right stop at the right time to catch the flames.
He finally got a heritage unit on camera!
Chicago and Northwestern should have never been sold out to the Union Pacific. Same goes for the poor SP that was swallowed up by the yellow behemoth.
Great photos and videos, great commentary, you have a superb UA-cam site. I really enjoy watching your videos.

I love the SD70ACe's that the A&M run here in NWA.
The up 1995 is my favorite one of all the UP heritage units
Pretty cool catches !!!!
Great video my friend! Love 70 ACe locos and definitely k5llas.
Maybe they put a Seaboard sticker for heritage?
Enjoyed the video as always
I did do a recording of the second one.
how do you know when interesting locomotives are coming through? i missed a CSX ST70AH and CSX 911 in the same day and im a bit upset
Why couldn't you call the fire department instead of going to the fire station
Awesome video! Lots of great catches!
Wow that's absolutely awesome great job!
Great catch and video.

Is your ID pick the Hammerschmidt silos along the C&NW tracks next to St.Charles road, being torn down?
I saw Csx 5461 in deshler ohio on my b-day
Sticker Unit not Heritage unit
I love your video very good and I did get pics of -9,s when they came thru wisconsin in early 2000,s and yes this loco is very nice UP 1995 thank you !
I got to see UP 1989 on MOPAC in Texas two years ago. I was not expecting it, but as the tween I was, I was really excited when I saw it.
UP 1995 is definately my favorite heritage unit.
And a train 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
On the UP Geneva Sub in Northern Illinois they still run trains left handed like the CNW.
I remember before CSX sold our panhandle line to my railroad (Florida Gulf And Atlantic FGAR), UP1995 visited my home town and crossed the famous Graffiti Bridge. I took a shitload of photos. We UP guys went insane when the RF&P HU went down west. First one on any UP track I believe
I have seen number 90
I’ve actually got something involving with UP 1995. On the night of January 18th, 2023, I spotted UP 1995 in Caldwell, Idaho. And he was leading Union Pacific Intermodal ZBRG2.
And when it came to Proviso i yarded it.
I caught the seaboard system heritage unit in November of last year
Do you have to ask permission to get this close.
