Good for you!!! I used to play guitar & mandolin in a band for a lot of years, then a stroke stopped all that. I'm tackling both again now & mandolin sure is easier than guitar!!! =D
Your clear and concise approach makes learning so much more accessible to beginners or those familiar with a different instrument - makes me want to pop out and buy a mandolin!

If your fingertips turn white and there's a lot of pain, ease up on the pressure. You will have string marks on your fingertips no matter what. You might want to have your mandolin set up to make sure the strings aren't too far from the neck.

I just started playing at 57. This was great! I do have that plucky sound and I’m a little concerned that at my age I may have trouble getting my fingers to move correctly but I’m not giving up!

I don't have one just on tuning, sorry. It's easiest if you use a tuner (I like my Snark) or an app. The strings are tuned to GDAE, starting with the set of strings closest to your face.

I have found that with most people if you practice and continue to have a good attitude that you'll learn how to play, no matter your age.
