Hi George, this is just a red papaya from supermarket. Probably grew from food scraps I bury around the garden. I've now planted a lot of seeds from one of these fruits all over the place now. By the way, Doug showed me Broadleaf Papaya which has done very well in cold for him up in Brisbane (down to 3 - 4c). I'll try that one here in Sydney as well.
Thanks for video. Sydney is a big place with all sorts of dif low temperature during winter. What kind of winter low temperature this gets? Is it planted in any microclinate that gives more favourable environment for this papaya tree?
Hi Dan, we get down to 2 - 3c for a couple of weeks in Winter. No frosts in last 4 years at least. This papaya is in a pretty exposed area with cold winds. I was sure of its demise so completely ignored it. Had a bit of damage in winter but still survived and produced fruits. I've now buried its seeds all around the garden. Hope to get more of these.
@@desidownunder2085thanks for taking the time to reply. I also planted a papaya tree bought from daleys in my wollongong property. This is the first time. I have planted where it can get max sun during winter. Problem is same place get so summer hot 🔥 right now some leaves are yellowing 😢
Interesting. I need to know which variety of papaya that is.
Thanks for sharing.

@@desidownunder2085 I tried Broadleaf Papaya, but it didn't survive the multiple 0c's in winter.

@@Dan-gt1ds better put on some shade cloth. No problems with the tree in this video but all younger trees are currently getting sunburnt.
Nice papaya tree volunteer :)
Things you try to grow but fail and then pop up on their own. Papaya is one of those....
Personally, I find some extra satisfaction when I get a volunteer plant that I like🌱 It's like a gift :)
