This is one of my favourite songs by Serj. I especially love the interlude part where the guitars bet all heavy and the strings add this otherworldly ethereal effect.

And I also love the intro. and the lyrical theme. And the melody. And the upbeat, in-your-face chorus. And the smooth and flowing instrumental that sounds all Egyptian-psychedelic and shit. Basically, I love this song.
*Fun Fact:* You see that guy at 0:20? The one rolling the earth up a hill? He's based off of the Greek legend of _Sisyphus_. He was a king of Ephyra who bore witness against Zeus after Zeus kidnapped Aegina, the mortal daughter of Asopus. Sisyphus earned the wrath of the Greek gods and was banished to the underworld, where he was condemned for all eternity to _roll a ball up a hill, only to have it roll back down every time_.

It's pretty intresting,how people,(one person,or a whole generation) saying things about each other,forgetting their mortality and not even trying to imagine other's situation and point of view.
As a 15 years old,it's pretty interesting,ironic and sad for me.
Interesting thing I read a while ago was what a Greek philosopher said somewhere 2000 years ago, it was something like this: "Where is this young generation going! The only thing they do is just walk around, play and drink wine, they aren't studying at all! The human race is doomed!" and so on. It sounds familiar, doesn't it? We can say such things about every generation but somehow we always manage to make it through. I'm not saying that nowadays is better than what was before but I still have some hope. As someone said in the previous comments - it's not the phones', games' or selfies' fault, it's the way each person uses them be it for good or bad.

Serj is the ONLY artist that can create awesome music coupled with intelligent and poetic lyrics.
Even though it's got a "technology bad" element that's a bit overdone, I gotta admire the editing and especially the mix of claymation and stopmotion animation. Such a cool video.
i believe the minorly negative depiction of technology at the very beginning of the video i would guess is the idea that, people are becoming slaves to technology instead of technology being slaves to US, being used as tools. (evidence of the truth of this would be misinformation, and how anyone that reads misinformation on their phone can simply ACCEPT that it's true and go about their life acting with that knowledge.)
i think the entire video after that is basically just "INDUSTRY BAD" element, which is fucking undeniably true, there needs to be more discipline and responsibility in industry, obviously to eradicate industry would be to end the world, the problem is that the powerhouses don't give a fuck HOW they get something done, it just matters that it gets done, and whatever consequences come as a result don't matter to them

This is one of the best made videos and songs out of the serj tankian series and SOAD/ System Of A Down. I can't find one song out of these albums that I don't like or look boring or even sound boring this guy has some serious talants just wow.

I'm not exactly what this song means, but I'll see if I can get a breakdown here.
The first 5 lines seem to mean that our society seems fantastical. In the sense that we are lead by religious leaders, yet no were near religious ourselves. And we have become whole in that sense - nobody wants religion we all want to be "free" and indulge as we please (ironically enough, indulgence is the antonym of free - when you indulge you become a slave to your substance be it whatever it may be). The next 5 mean that we lost a main part of what held society together - be it intelligence, intellectualism, maybe even books (say in Fahrenheit 451 scenario, which isn't unlikely). The love line... The only thing I see as a 16 year old is that we all claim love. Teenagers fueled by lust more than ever, people making drunk decisions, etc. We've lost the word of love, branded and renamed lust to take love's place. Silence is golden makes me, again, think to Fahrenheit 451. When Montag's trying to memorize a passage, he finds he cannot because society keeps throwing music and words and catchy tunes at him; all distractions. And we see that in society today, more and more distractions to keep us from properly thinking. Please observe seems to mean that if you take the time to open you eyes and look around - you'll see it everywhere.
The next 3 lines seems easy to translate. Fighting your empire because we all want to be rebels, all want to be different, and think selfishly of ourselves; when, in fact, we are all the same. It could also mean that all the rebellion against the government is staged. Or maybe that empire could be our entertainment. We fight our empire because we all want, and are conditioned to need, instant gratification. We then defend our vampires - the entertainers. Bread and circuses. The entertainers are truly demonic, but we defend them because we "love" them. Quick example, Justin Bieber. He's done such horrible things, but his hypnotized fans defend him to no end. It's monstrous, demonic. We're far away, far left of center. We've gone too far. Far from what society should be, far from what humans are. We've turned into the worst kind of animal - humans without thought. The bombing and defeating confuses me a bit. Would it be the tyrannical leader's perspective? Bombing people's "ignorance" and defeating their "insolence" until they're mindless drones? Would it be the one person in the music video who is pulling the rock atop the hill (like in the Greek myth)? The lone person is attempting to bomb people's ignorance and defeating their insolence - trying to restore a society. But humans are doomed to repeat their damned mistakes, and so that minority who is educated is always suffering. Would it be the tyrannical leader against the minority?
The next bit is even more confusing. If today I die and can't deny the life that I lived for what I say now befit myself in time... Where do we break that up? If today I die and can't deny the life I lived, for what I say now befit myself in time? I think that means that if "I" were to die today and couldn't deny the life I lived (say, something so horrible or great that I couldn't deny it - the death could even be a spiritual one, such as realizing the problems in society today and giving up their old life), then what I say now fits myself in time. Is that when the cycle repeats? When everything fits in time, and history then repeats itself? Is that process of climbing up the hill? Then the no time meaning that everything is in the now. No time to stop and think, just move. And that's where the instant gratification comes in. No structures of a pyramid... There's no complexity to things, we just take everything at face value without looking inside? We can't think in a complex format anymore, we're just as stupid as the people in Idiocracy? No trained horses to arise - no heroes or saviours to save us - as we've doomed ourselves with our stupidity? Assume my position, my words define? Would that be for us to assume Serj's position on the issue? Would it be for us to infer the our own position? For us to find where we oursleves stand, and what we believe in as individuals not influenced by society? Ugh, this is so confusing.
The final bit is interesting. Forward and backward just seems to mean we, like the Greek myth and the figure from the video, are in a cycle. Living, dying; dying, living; living, dying. We are surrounded by life and death and confused. We indulge so much we take away our own happiness and leave ourselves dead to the world, but still alive? Crying, seeing; living breathing; we're becoming self aware, again. We see what we've done and seen how terrible it truly is. We start to "live" again, start to truly breathe...
Only to repeat the cycle.

On page 2, still the abstract, Sandra Bartky's story really just shows how women are made to feel even if it's something as simple as a whistle ( simple as seen from the eyes of the person commiting the action). Also the experiment,on page 9, that was conducted upon the Fijian adolecent girls was quite interesting.
