@ugkcdrock horns naturally have a core of spongy bone, this is sometimes removed in the abattoir, if not then you must boil the horn for a couple of hours and pull the core out with pliers. The mouthpiece is shaped with a knife and a rotary grinding tool.
Good luck Morka, just remember drill bits don't go round corners and sometimes you are better off sacrificing a bit of length and curve to guarantee hitting the void when you drill in. Or make a side blown as a first step, they are easier!
I loved the first one, I would love to have one, do you have any recommendations as to where I could buy one ? Is it simply just a horn or is there a special mechanism at the end ?
This is so QL :) how do you drill a whole where you blow air to make a sound? i mean how to make that sound? Do you have some tuttorial or some thing? :)
I still can't play mine. I know it can be played on mine, cause the guy who sold it to me at the festival demonstrated that it worked before I bought it. I tried following the demonstration here, but I still cant get it.
***** close your lips. Press the horn to your lips. Blow a 'raspberry'(buzz your lips fairly forcefully) into the horn, making sure no air escapes from around your lips. The 'raspberry' has to be at the right speed for the horn to match the resonant frequency, so you'll have to experiment with the speed/pitch of the buzz. Some people find it easier from the corner of the mouth rather than the middle.
Okay, I need to get one of these so next time it's foggy I can creep out my neighbors.
I always wanted one after watching Lord of the Rings ^.^
thanks for making this vid, i got hold of a cow horn for viking reenacting. been trying to play it all day with no luck

thumbs up!
@carriontribe , the first one is a largish 'small' horn, the small horns I usually sell are a bit smaller and sound more like the ram's horn.

Thanks for posting, now I know how to get mine to work, thanks.

man...i love this horn..when watch in LOTR...LOL..the sound of Victory!
@giuseppeseverini57 The small ones are European (Irish and French) while the very large horn is from North African cattle.
@MorkaGraven yes you can play that way, but most people find it easier from the corner of the mouth, at least until you have built up your embouchure.
how do you hollow them out, and fashion the mouthpiece?
I have just bought a horn from you!
Very Good Videos. How do you get rid of the Horn Smell?.
thanks for the video, loved it!
Great stuff
A horn I have is nearly impossible to blow. Is it possible the mouth piece is cut to small?
This is so QL :)

Is ram horn historically accurate for viking eras?
I want a blowing horn, but it's easier for me to get a ram horn instead of a cow one.
Emmanuel Chávez ram's horns are still played as folk instruments in Scandinavia so I don't see why not. Harder to make and play though.
Hello!
It would be very grateful if tell how to do it because of how I try I can not get it. I am thinking how to put them together in your lips?
