Malice mizer fan since 2004 here and this song is the reason why I play guitar. I learned this song years ago but never found the right setup. Thank you! PS: I’m thrilled to see more ppl getting to know this awesome band.
That's awesome! I think I found MM around the same time. This song has definitely inspired a lot of people, including myself, to reach for a guitar and work it all out. It's a masterpiece and I'm glad to share it with the masses outside of Asia.
Awesome, whatever guitar you decide to get, make sure you love the way it feels in your hands. We'll be posting more Malice Mizer tutorials soon. Stay tuned!
take this from a guitarist of 4 years; start with open chord songs rather than something like this which uses a lot of fast paced parts because otherwise you'll burn yourself out really quick. and when you do get to soloing, learn the minor pentatonic scale because it'll make it flow so much better good luck with learning! and don't give up because you've got great taste for liking tetsu's malice mizer!
We live in a fortunate time where good people like OP post tutorials on how to play. When I desperately wanted to learn how to play this song, I had to sit down with headphones, and replay the same parts hundreds of times to try to get it right on my guitar playing along with the recording. Thanks for this.
Thank you for the kind words! This is the same process I'm currently using (along with a couple other techniques) to decipher these classic MM songs; playing the songs over and over while listening carefully. I remember your BeanKid video and it helped to serve as inspiration for this one. Keep on rockin' 🤘
Hey, thanks for this! I played the guitar before but forgot a lot, so that's a great throwback, I still can't do much, but I learned the intro, and I'm eager to learn this whole song asap!
No problem, thanks for watching! This song has got something for everyone and will work out all your chops. Welcome back to the wonderful world of guitar 🎸🤘🤘
5:38 is really the best part. Such nostalgia. It gave me nostalgia the first time I heard it and the best thing about sweet nostalgia is that it only ever grows.
im using a classical guitar and i have so little knowledge of guitar but im still managing to follow along a few steps are really hard for me since im a noob but you are so good at explaining
[edit] 8:49 - This part is from a Bach piece. "Bach: Invention 4 in D Minor, BWV 775" - ua-cam.com/video/htdLd0B1WsU/v-deo.html I love playing the bass part behind that. I messed up the timestamp the first time so edited it.
Instant sub... You rock dude. I just discovered Malice Mizer this month and I can't stop listening. Can you help me figure out what guitar effects they use for the song Aegen? I LOVE the sound of the guitar on that one and I want to try to buy some gear to get me close.
Thanks for the sub! That's awesome you've discovered Malice Mizer. It's like a level up for the ears 🙌 You can hear a Chorus effect on the guitar during the intro and throughout the song "Aegen". I'm not 100% sure on which exact pedals were used, but doing a bit of Googling I found that Kozi uses (or used) a Boss Super Chorus and also an Electroharmonix Small Clone. It could be that Mana used the same or similar effects pedals for this song/album
That's such a great song! It's pretty tough to hear all the guitar parts clearly on that track, in order to figure out the chords/notes, but maybe I can make that a future project.
The key to playing the intro arpeggios smoothly, is to use an alternate picking pattern with your picking hand. The first direction is down on the D string, then up on the high E string, then down on the B string, then up on the G string. Move your wrist up and down while doing this, as this takes lest effort and energy, rather than moving your forearm up and down. The type of pick you use can also make this easier or more difficult, depending on it's thickness and how hard you pick the strings. Try slowing down the video playback speed to 0.25 at the 2:46 mark and you will see how I've done it. Thanks for watching, and happy strumming 🙏🏼
Yes there is a bit of a mismatch that I was late on noticing after uploading the video 😅. The Guitar Pro tab for this song that's on our Patreon has all the accurate tabs.
@@MichaelaSajtlavova-cj2eg No worries at all! We all start somewhere 🙂🎸 You actually don't need any pedals to play this song, if you have a guitar amp with built-in effects. The only effect you really need is "Chorus" and some distortion for the lead parts. If you have a computer and some way to plug your guitar into it (audio interface, USB/guitar cable, etc) then you can use many free plugins to achieve this sound and more, with free programs like GarageBand and Reaper. Luckily there's a lot of tutorials online showing how to use this type of setup. Keep rocking🤘
Compared to when I first started playing some decades ago, the quality and range of guitar gear out there now is ridiculously high, with a low barrier for entry. Just take a look at Harley Benton guitars from Thomann. But you're right, playing guitar is like getting bitten by a crackhead vampire. Once you got the bug, it's got your wallet hostage 😁

How do you strum smoothly from when you did the intro arpeggio? I wanna know I can do that beginning part smoothly like you did
The key to playing the intro arpeggios smoothly, is to use an alternate picking pattern with your picking hand.

This is seriously such a beautiful song. It really cemented my love for Malice Mizer and visual kei in general.
Same here, I never get tired of listening to it. The whole album Memoire DX is really one of a kind.
mana is god
I'm a bit late, but I don't think the tab and the played thing on the first bridge match...
Yes there is a bit of a mismatch that I was late on noticing after uploading the video 😅. The Guitar Pro tab for this song that's on our Patreon has all the accurate tabs.
how do I achieve this sound without pedals?Do I need that much pedals ?

can you do a tutorial for the song "I know the reason for her sadness" ?!?!?
Yeah, it's been a popular request. Look forward to a tutorial in the future.
Dang playing electric guitar looks expensive
