I've been trying to figure out shooting left handed for three years as a goalie. Always had my left hand down closer to the paddle. After seeing this video I was able to elevate the puck over my own net in warm ups the other night. Finally! Thanks for the tips on hand placement Trav, can't wait to get back on the ice and try it tomorrow night again!
Should I mainly use my top arm to stick handle, and use my glove just as a support for the stick, or is it better if I move both of my hands while handling the puck?
I believe goalies can stick handle if they practice it. I was watching how you were stick handling and I started to mimic it. But I feel like it’s hard to use in a game situation, most of the time I’m just trying to get it off of my stick as fast as possible

Loving the hybrid grip! How do you get the knob to stick to the player grip? Are you just using the spray or something else to make those two layers to stick to each other??
most of these knobs come with their own glue strip as well that you can cut and customize to go over the other grip there is more than this one company that do these rubber knobs and grips.....they are they best been using them for 12 years no so much lighter and does not eat the crap out of your palms on the blocker have had my v3 blocker and have had these rubber grips (not from same company) and 0 holes in the pal of my blocker and have had it for 8 years and played 2 seasons of Jr so tons of ice time with it only time no holes in my palm
@@trav4oilers I don't have the same company but next time I have to replace mine going to look up the company. Started using the rubber grips 12 years ago and have not got new equipment since playing Jr but I have V3's and have had my blocker for 11 years now (2 of which played jr with.) I have only had rubber grips like this on my stick since owning the blocker and it is the only time I have not had a palm have holes and rip out on me even after 11 years of use. These grips save your palms and equipment so much on top of being much lighter. Also I found the rubber absorbs more shock so when you hit your post to find position with your stick it also does less damage to the shaft of your stick vs taps allowing your stick to last longer and keep its stiffness longer. For those that like hand grips above the paddle the can cut one up and customize to make a grip above the paddle as well.
Is trav right or left handed? I know many different goalies who are righties and lefties that catch with different hands. I wonder if the difference in puck handling is major or minor depending on lefties and righties
I'm left handed. I write left handed Catch in base ball left handed Catch in hockey right handed Golf right handed Originally played guitar left handed but guitar teacher made me go right handed I'm all over the place
Thanks trav. I’m a righty that catches left in hockey so I stickhandle lefty as a goalie and righty as a player. Good to know that I can be Patrick Kane using my non-dominate hand

he's right, it is a 90's mentality. I was a goalie in the 80's and 90's and I can't believe how much time modern goalies spend on their knees.
How long will their knees last?
Been eying Buttendz grip to give it a shot. Nice to see you at my old haunt at Concordia. I practically lived at that rink in university. 👍🏻

What was the coach saying about blocker positioning around 3:00?
Essentially dont have your blocker straight up and down
What was the coach talking about with the blocker?
Don't have the hand straight down, gives you more mobility
@@trav4oilers Thanks
Tell Rob that I have sentry grips on my main and my backup because of you!! Come September I'll be getting more!! Great vid trav!!
Hahah they're good shit huh
I only wish I could hire someone to take them off a broken stick for me lol! I sweat more doing that than i do at a skate!
How come you haven’t been wearing your new two piece skates?
Some great nuggets of wisdom in there.
I use the command grip player on my goalie stick.
When you go to poke check with that much tape when you throw the stick it's going to stop short
doesn't interfere as much as you'd think

MAYYO 3 opposite. Top blocker is support and glove does all the work
@@trav4oilers Thanks for the advice, love the way you make videos :)
You should make more in depth vid on stick handling

Doesn't happen over night.
They should make a grip big enough for a CCM goalie stick
They work for all sticks
Coach is right at 2:20. Also, wow, your helmet is critically unsafe in depth size. You need custom bud.

First NHL goal by a goaltender was by Islanders’ Billy Smith, right?
Yeah, but he didn’t shoot it in
Loving the hybrid grip! How do you get the knob to stick to the player grip? Are you just using the spray or something else to make those two layers to stick to each other??
Yup and super glue to the knob so it doesn't come off

Dang a trav vid at my home rink sheesh
This is an OLD video
Myth busted -! Trav puts sideline swap ads in the beginning of videos.
Biggest thing to become a better puck player is use a shorter goal stick. I’m 6’2 and use a 25
Hi trav
All I know is my stick handling is terrible I can settle it down and put it behind the net for my defenseman or pass it up. but I can’t deke anybody
That’s my home rink
