Ben's stuttering makes me very nervous? Like we already know how method acting for Evan is affecting him, but his stuttering embodies Evan so much it's a little scary.
To me, it seems like more of a 'mouth moving faster than your brain' thing (which happens to a lot of people).
Kimberly Christie Well, though I totally agree, I've read a lot on how this is affecting him. He started adopting Evan's habits, and his back slouches more, he started biting his nails. So we KNOW that this is negativet affecting him. Plus, Ben has already delt with anxiety and such, so I am very concerned about how the role of Evan will affect him if he continues eight shows a night
I believe he does go to physical therapy (so that should help with any posture issues and things like that). I understand that you're concerned, but also sure that Ben and the people around him are taking care of all that. Don't worry :)

He literally had to go to a therapist Bc he had to separate himself from the character that is Evan. He adapted Evans little quirks of stuttering and his hand movements and the shirt pulling.
How the hell can you contract traits for acting like someone that it can seriously affect you? This is really concerning for Ben for him to be actually attracting traits from his character Evan.
@@LumosVeil After playing the same character for so long they kinda become you in a way. You get so used to playing them. It's almost like the line between you and this character blurs.

Ike Harper Its because he's been portraying the role of Evan for so long he's now gaining his traits. He has to go to therapy because he is getting affected by acting out Evans anxiety. ( if that makes any sense )

I haven't been able to find a video but the audio is in a podcast on the apple store (its free!) if you search siriusxm broadway its one of two
Soooo people wondering about Ben's stuttering..... Let's take it back the whole lot more. Ben was always that outgoing, confident person that his agent actually didn't even told him about Benji in Pitch Perfect because there was barely any resemblance.... But then as an amzing actor, Ben adapted to that "awkward" character really well and that's when he was casted in book of mormon, also playing the "awkward" character... So by that point he was getting used to that kind of character. Then boooom he was casted as Evan. Not really actually, he was first casted as Jared but he or someone in the project suggested him trying Evan. But since he was already an expert at this kind of character, he totally nailed it and took the lead role. And they took their time developing the character, monitoring subtle movements Ben made when he acted it out. And thus his ticks, stuttering, and awkward postures were made. But then since he was so devoted and played Evan such a long time from since... He started sharing those fictional traits that he never used to have.... And that's how Ben became eveyone's dearest and must be protected cinnamon roll

The Only Cryssi well stuttering is pretty stressful to speaker him/herself since you feel like you are unable to successfully portray what you have in mind. And also because he is an actor, stuttering could be a big burden in reading lines.. I'm sure he's not going tp play Evan like character for rest of his days so. And for other ticks.. Ticks are usually made when you have extreme stress with no proper outlet so they all are pretty bad for him
Luckily he's taking physical therapy to sort that out :)
It's not really important but I think he said in an interview he was never really cast as Jared, he played Evan since the first reading
Giorgia he's leaving, but yes, he's lost 30 pounds because of the role, along with posture and fidgeting issues. He does have therapy, but he quoted 'it's a losing battle.'

I feel like Ben really relates to his character because he even seems to be a little socially awkward in real life. Ben is so precious and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves
Zoë Fischer its actually because ben in so good at method acting hes starting to take in some of evans personality, which is affecting his health. He is even going to a therapist to make sure he doesnt turn completely into evan.

It kills me how much Ben Platt turned into the character if Evan Hansen! On one hand, it's amazing how incredible of an actor he is to be able to connect with the character that much, but on the other hand, he has to deal with that anxiety and actually go through therapy to overcome that. It's heartbreaking but so inspiring that he was willing to do that for this show and story! It's so sad that he doesn't play Evan Hansen anymore, not to say that the new Evan Hansen isn't great as well.

After playing Evan every single day, sometimes twice a day for more than three years, he's obviously going to start picking up traits from the character. It's actually quite damaging, because Ben had to see therapy to try to separate himself from the character and to not get anxiety. (He's also resigned his role from Dear Evan Hansen and this is probably a reason why)
Poppy Lambert wow sorry. I meant it was kinda cute since he could realate to the character in a way. I'm sorry if I upset anyone in anyway. Me and my 12 year old mind lack intelligence. I completely understand why you commented this and I thank you. I have anxiety and depression myself and I see know how playing an extremely anxious character eight times a week can have an affect on you.
It's fine! Just thought I'd let you know. He could probably relate to Evan anyway, because the character was created based around him.
