@@dudeman7738 You do realize that most people who work for suicide prevention hotlines get depressed themselves and sometimes these operatives also kill themselves.
So, I have my own idea of what this is about. The "Vending Machine" the lady is in is sort of meant to represent the jobs she has, which we see she seems to have three, Coffee Shop Worker, Phone Sex Worker (I assume due to the visuals but I may be wrong), and Waitress. The reason she has three is because these usually don't pay a lot of money (not sure if phone sex workers get paid a lot), but in addition to the stress of three jobs, she also has horrible customers she has to deal with. Coffee Shop: Has to deal with people screaming at her about the wrong order, or their coffee being too hot, or whatever other complaint they can think of that probably isn't her fault, but she has to take the verbal abuse because "The customer is always right" and "Service with a smile" Phone Sex: She has to hear probably very degrading things about what people want to do to her, or their sick fantasies in general, and not being able to deny any callers because "It's the job" Waitress: This last one is a bit more horrifying. She works late shifts as a waitress and again, deals with the same abuse like in the coffee shop. But this time, there's a man there who takes a very large interest in her. It's implied after he gets very drunk, he sexually assaults her, possibly at the restaurant or even in an alley, as we see her looking broken down and heading to what I assume is her home towards the end of the animation. She may not be able to report the incident, since this man may be a person in a powerful position, and would just use his ties to shut her up. Through it all, she forces herself to smile through, as she believes that's what she has to do. She can't fight back. It's a very sad story, and it's a reality many people (Both men and women) face in their lives
Look at the sign that says i. It means information in general. And she's wearing a uniform and a headphone. It's very typical image of telephone counselor in Korea. Her job is telephone counselor not a phone sex worker.
@schabadille, It was clearly her, the older woman's fault anyway. I mean who does that?! As in, just sips in coffee immediately, when you obviously know it was just served?!! The second i saw her hop into the vending machine i thought "Good god what kind of dystopian nightmare is this". After watching the entire thing i realized it was just compressed reality. People suck, man.
Φοιβη same tho.. scary stuff
Your not wrong about the vending machine idea but this goes much deeper then that.

You guys didn't know that all Korean workers are actually getting so much abused, especially from around the world.
Especially those cat cafe girls

It's not just Korea
@@김예린-q7w Some Japan workers also?
@@xxstar-bluesxx I don't really know. However, it is also true that such a problem occurs in other countries besides Korea.
I love how the end scene makes me feel, like she's realized she's been treated like an object, something to be used and consumed. I've felt like that before and the scene made me grateful for how long I've come since those dark times. Love this short.
You know its like as if being maliable is expected regardless of what your job is, some people tend to give you high expectations on what you should be and then on if you aren't capable of being so then you're just useless if thats how you phrase that.
That definitely had a strong impact, that's for damn sure.
Masterfully well animated.

It doesn’t have captions.

I like how she is always smiling.
Edit: Now that I think about it, it doesn’t look like she is happy or she likes her job :/
Me too
Yeah like tgat was fracking hard
That is actually a satiric point; this animation points out the problem of emotional labor.
Moodddd
The smiling is suppose to send out one of the points xp

Don't you love how someone watched this animation and went “THIS is the PERFECT short to crowd with quippy jokes as the ONLY English translation!”
That in and of itself reinforces the point.
It's all very funny to the people walking passed her. And it's easy to find it that funny.

Honestly a great commentary on how it is to work in the retail/service industry especially for women anwhere in the world.
this animation is heartbreaking. She was hiding all her pain in with a smile. I pray for all the women who actually have to go through all of this 🙏

At first I thought it was a cute little animatic. Oh how wrong i was, I started crying at the end because of how relatable it was. She got destroyed in every way possible yet she still smiles.
The first time i saw this animation I was confused but now i see that this connects with most women because some women half to go through stuff like this in their jobs and i am deeply sorry for them and i hope they are okay....
