Bernhard Molique (7 October 1802 -- 10 May 1869) was a German violinist and composer.
Work: Flute Concerto in D-minor, Op.69 (First published in 1824, second version published in 1863.)
Mov.I: Allegro 00:00
Mov.II: Andante 08:43
Mov.III: Rondo - Allegro moderato 14:32
Flute: John Wion
Orchestra: ???
Conductor: Arthur Bloom
The orchestra made up of friends and colleagues was conducted by Arthur Bloom. The recording was made for Musical Heritage Society in NYC in 1976. The concerto is in D minor.
+John Wion So, I am confused - is this a recording with the Andante from the original 1824 version? I thought this version was from the revised concerto circa ~1860.
+rajhah I did not post this myself. It is incorrect that the poster adds the date 1824 in the title. The version I recorded (Op.69) has revised outer movements and a new slow movement in F. See www.johnwion.com/MoliqueArticle.html for the history of this concerto
BRAVO to the composer, and BRAVI to the performers.
What a beautiful piece, cant wait to play this myself
There is a recording of this piece with the soloist Mathieu Dufour and Czech National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Paul Freeman. It is available on Amazon by streaming but the CD is quite expensive. It is available at a reasonable price from Presto Classical as a CD and download.
That's actually an earlier version and quite different - in fact the slow movement is totally different.
@@johnwion The music of obscure composers can be really hard to track down. Here in the USA it is really bad for us fans of obscure composers. The orchestras here are so revenue driven that they only play the most popular classical music. NPR is about the only radio that plays the less known composers. I find all recordings of obscure composers to be made be record labels from Europe.
@@johnwion Yes, it's the same as that with Alain Marion: ua-cam.com/video/6krjPNwPERM/v-deo.html
Bravo!

Grazie!
The ground is not exactly littered with Romantic-era flute concertos worthy of performance. Why is this delighfully peppy work so neglected?
It certainly deserves to be more heard.
UNKNOWN WORKS DELIBERATELY NEOLECTED BY CONCERT HALLS MANAGERS, WHO ARE TOO LAZY TO PUT ON OTHER MUSIC THAN THE NOW BORING BEETHOVEN AND BRAHMS ECT - SO SACK ALL CONCERT HALL MANAGERS !!!.
I had a nightmarish experience of accompanying a young flutist for a performance of the second movement. The piano reduction was crap and made no sense to me musically as a teen - I recall the teacher screaming at me for not practicing enough, whatever. More to the point of this discussion, she also expressed disgust with the 1st and 3rd movements, so I'm thinking it is a piece that may simply not be quite good enough for accomplished players?
Karen, beautiful job!
Sehr, sehr schön und wunderbar gespielt. Thanks for loading
14:32 mov3
La partie de flûte est extra ! Sympathiquement acrobatique avec surprises !

Grande maestro! Bravisimo! Un gran saludo desde Chile!

Bloom has its own orchestra: MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band... Maybe it is or Kansas SZymphony Orchestra
Thanks for posting.
