*Apologies for the sub-par audio in this video! Echoey room and wrong gain settings for the transmitter kit!* What do you guys think of this setup? What would you change?
Thank you for this video, Josh! I used your past videos for my S5 rig build. I am going to watch this a few times so I can get a better idea of how to right my S5ii!
Hey Josh, I would add the tilta side battery focus handle on the left. This would take care of SSD mounting, provide battery for the monitor, power and control a tilta nano and give much better stability to the camera. With that lens, it would be perfect.
Hello there. I have this handle TILTA TA-SFH2-97-G and my issue using it, has always been that it's a bit heavy and the camera is not quite balanced in the center. I was using it with my BMPC4k. What's your experience? By the way do this handles work with the new tilta cages for the Panasonic camera?
@@RodericAlonzo Gosh I'm so slack, a year to reply! lol, sorry. I have this handle on my BMPCC 6k and I mounted it to the cage with an ARRI rosette (some cheap D shape things with slots for the 1/4 20 screws). You can buy them in 3 different configurations and you can buy the parts to change from bottom of cage mount to ARRI etc. I know the S5ii has great AF but once you get teh hang of a good manual focus rig, AF just feels out of control. This handle is perfect for cine lesses.
Love the build. Doing something similar with my G9ii except I just returned the tilta S5iix cage in favor of the Nitze cage for S5IIX because the curved top right design of the tilta cage partially blocks the WB button and sort of forces you to use your thumb to hit the record button, which means I have to lift my palm. Plus no mounting options. If you're ever looking into a new setup for your S5iix strongly recommend the Nitze cage. It takes the best features from the tilta and smallrig cages and combines them, plus universal compatibly with all NATO clamp styles. Cheers! As a new Lumix user, Love your content. Oh, also .. I just got the S5IIX cage from Dark Power Labs... That thing is so sick, you should take a look at it.
I love this rig. Its actually very similar to how I have my s5ii set up! Quick question though.. What exact lens and lens adapter are you using here? I would love to know so I can consider for my set up! Thank you!
Hi, Josh.!The Ninja V seems to record up to 10bit. For 12bit recording you need Ninja V +. Do you confirm this? None of the videos I've seen specify the Ninja V +...
Another great video mate! I was wondering have you ever used the Leica Summicron-TL 23 f/2 ASPH for L-mount? There's very little info about it anywhere, yet it's a great focal length for FF and, of course, its Leica, so I'm assuming the quality is there too. If you have it in your collection, a review video would be much appreciated.
Hi Josh, what is that tool you are using for screwing everthing in? Looks like a true relief instead of using al the different little scredriver things 😂
@@JoshCameron And it could be ok if it really cost that much, but all that cages or handle for $200 cost like $10 bucks to produce. Handle and cage that everyone advertise cost like Ninja V, or monitor, or even CPU, just for metal frame. Like it's rocket science. Your setup is very reasonable, thanks! VND add-on with filter cost a lot though, but lens hood is looks cool, even if it doesn't do much, for "clients" it will be "professional look " :)
Hi Josh. Just a quick question that you may be able to help me with. Do you know if it possible on the S5IIX to use a small USB C hub with 2 or 3 USB C sockets with power delivery function on one of them to make it possible to record to SSD at the same time as using a USB C power bank to power the camera? I would love your reply to be positive as it would be a real plus! Thanking you in advance and keep up the good work. You are an excellent teacher who explains things so clearly. Speak soon, Andy
How is the hdmi lag on the monitor. I am looking at buying a Blackmagic video assist for my S5iix but everyone is talking about lag coming from the hdmi?
@Josh Cameron - Wondering if you've run across this issue with the MKII/X. When an HDMI cable is plugged into the camera I do no have the ability to down convert the signal, so I cannot sent the video signal to say a Hollyand TX. This is an option in the menu system that exists and becomes greyed once an HDMI cable is plugged in. Is this something you've seen?
If using the ninja why not just use the ssd slot on the ninja instead of the usb-c ? Save some space and open the usb-c port up for external battery or vmount options. Or do you think ghe pro res from the ninja is t as substantial as the pro res from the camera body ?
There’s many reasons why you could use SSD over Atomos Recording even if you have the Ninja V. I’ll delve deeper into those in another video, but the short answer is redundancy and access to 5.9K ProRes 422 instead of 4K ProRes 422 :)
@@JoshCameron please do im still a lil confused wouldn’t you be able to use 6k all intra 10 bit and set ninja v to pro res up to pro res hq and set custom modes to switch quickly between 6k , 5.9k and 4k ? I like how compact it is, grey for run n gun. Regarding the lens, what mount is it, which adapter are you using, & is it an expanding adapter or are you shooting in S35 mode?
Hi - great videos. I just got a s5iix - I can't get my HDMI Raw output to work with my Atomos Ninja to record prores raw. The ninja simply says "no input" when I try. My understanding is that Atomos has not yet released the needed firmware update to use the ninja to record prores raw from the s5iix - have you had success recording ProRes raw with the ninja from the s5iix? I have updated the ninja to the latest firmware and I also have a s1 and the ninja works fine with recording prores raw from the s1. Anyway just thought I would ask as you have the same set up in the video! Thanks for the videos - they are super helpful!
Question, when the OG Lumix or S5mkii can record Pro Res Raw via a Ninja V Recorder, is there a difference in recording via SSD or the Ninja V ? or a Ninja V+ ? it can record 8k something and so on, or do i miss something here ?
Hey Josh! Does the s5 ii / x have the down convert 4k signal to 1080p for hdmi monitors? Cuz on my s5 cant use the atomos shinobi cuz that feature is missing...
Hey Josh, unrelated but have you noticed that when you use a phone or ipad whatever as a remote control using the Lumix app, the eye detect Autofocus thing stops working. Did you try this out?
Hm as a davinci resolve user i cant buy the ninja even tough its relatively cheap now. I prefer braw also i don use any apple products expect my trusty old ipad.
Is the idea behind using both the Ninja V and the SSD so you can shoot raw to Ninja and back up ProRes to the SSD simultaneously? Seems like a lot of hard drive recording going on there.
The idea is so I can have the option to use whatever recording type I like, whenever I like. It's almost like having two SD cards in your camera right? So, this way, I can shoot ProRes 422 HQ all day on the SSD for example, and then when that 1TB drive gets full, I could just switch to the Atomos and use another SSD on there, without the need of grabbing anything else :)
