Level 1 *tuner*, so Halq can search it (SS in defence and you can't activate the effect anyway, but you can just link off so it goes to GY) 5. No Xenolock. doesn't lock you into Machines, Morphtronics, Synchros, etc. I'm praying this card released like this
Playing this on release in the ocg, before halq is banned. It felt really good stomping tearalments and then being unable to do anything even through handtraps.
Could've played around the one single interrupt if he had done this and/or gotten to go through the Savage line, but hey, at least Labrynth couldn't kill on the crackback if it tried
Everyone's going on about the link climbing and the mad combos you can pull off with Telefon's effect. Literally none of it matters. I can just endlessly loop two Telefons and gain life points. You automatically win in time. Under the definition of a "controlled loop" you can't have a judge ask you to skip to the end of your loop because there is an uncontrollable element through the die roll, and even if you could I could just say that I am going to execute this loop until my life points and one quintillion, and then my opponent can't do enough damage to me. Unless they execute this loop themselves and boost to TWO quintillion life points.
Also really hoping they fix Telefon to not be self targeting before release so it doesn't get limited on arrival. I want to play pure Morphtronics not ftk nonsense

Honestly it's astonishing it doesn't, because it'd be really funny to loop 3 tuners and realize you'd be literally unable to summon anything with those. On the other hand, it would still be a Cannon Soldier card so hmm.

Don't even really need that. Just set it as a level 2 or 3 and suddenly it has a fail condition that'll barely matter for short combos, but becomes a massive issue for long combos. Even with a 1/6 chance of failure with it being level 2, rolling the dice 4 times has an about 52% chance of failure already. Level 3 would just cause them to stack up even faster.
That's actually a really weird field spell too. The 1k swing in stats and making everything machine might be a relevant pair of abilities from this card.
Nah, I think Telefon was the best choice in the situation, although I can see your argument for Telefon. Summoning Telefon instead of Telefon played around the set card better.

This card feels like a mistake. Either they forgot to give a hard once per turn. They forgot to say “except telefon” they forgot to make it a level 2 or 3 so that there’s the chance you miss your roll they forgot to xenolock it. They just forgot everything about it
Its not really a mistake. The powerlevel post power of the elements spiked so hard konami knew even these infinite loops with telephon won't do jack shit in the meta.
It's completely consistent with all the other Morphtronics. None of the other ones have HOPT clauses or exclude themselves from their own effects. The problem is modern game mechanics actually gives them a payoff now.
I’ve been testing with this support for a bit, and will claim this is maybe the first good RNG deck Konami has ever created. Still a big gimmicky but this deck can do some pretty unfair things. Still struggles with some hand traps and fitting in said hand traps :/
Let’s keep the original effect of Telefon but force duelists to wind their arm and shout “Dial on!” every time they activate it lest they suffer a game loss.
It's actually pretty interesting to compare this to Level Eater... I feel like this is a little worse b/c LE can sit in the GY and just activate again after being negated, whereas MT loses to a negate and destroy. But the fact that it's an Earth Machine is a big danger that makes it harder to directly compare overall... D.D. Crow: Works on LE, Works on MT if there's only 2 in rotation, but T can get extra value instead even w/o the loop Removal: Sort of works on LE by popping the LV5 or forcing them to lower its level again by removing the eater, works on MT if in response to the summon (imagine if priority still existed) Ghost Belle and other Negates: Works on MT, but doesn't stop LE overall Nibiru: Works on both
i think with therion and gizmek cards this has gotten a little more consistent, but its still just second banana to any better synchro deck, not to mention the loss of auroradon stinted its full capability
I think perhaps the worst part about this card is that it requires a dice roll at every step. That dice roll means exactly nothing in terms of what the combo can accomplish. What it does mean is that for every material you create you get to take an extra 2 seconds to roll a die, then add some LP. Meaning that if you use this to generate a loop that draws one card, you still can't just say "repeat until I draw my whole deck" because the loop has a side effect of adding a random amount of life points.
I am truly convinced that whoever designed the new Morphtronics was phoning it in (pun intended) and wanted to knock off early. I know powercreep in Yu-Gi-Oh is particularly rampant these days, but at least Spright and Tearlaments feel like they were specifically designed that way to cause a shift in the metagame. Telefon, on the other hand, feels like a massive oversight, especially given how Konami has gone out of their way to make sure any post-MR5 Link Monsters cannot be used in a Link Climbing strategy; Spright Elf and Spright Sprind, busted as they may be, both state they cannot be used as Link Material the turn they are Link Summoned. Meanwhile, Morphtronic Scannen is so laughably bad that I seriously believe the designer must have intended the player to banish a Morphtronic from GY and not from hand, and just mistyped. No shot they designed a card that is objectively worse than Gigantes and The Rock Spirit in current year 2022.
You can't heal yourself infinitely unless you have a card that can just tribute infinitely, like any of the Cannon Soldier cards. But at that point you're burning the opponent more consistently than you're gaining life points.
The part that kills me is not only is Telefon not hopt, neither are the Dice cards. I hit my opponent with Ghost Belle and Crow, but he just activated a 2nd Dice Dungeon, searched the 2nd Dimension Dice, summon 3rd copy of Telefon. I can’t tell if Konami is maliciously just powercreeping or if the really don’t play test their own cards

Morphtronic Telefon is the Tibalt's Trickery of Yu-Gi-Oh! Not OP, but man, so many non-games all because what matters is if you have it right away and what's in your extra deck.
The card design is intentional. Everyone loses their mind and advertises Yugioh. They printed 3x additional cards to search it or summon it from deck, so it is consistent. What does it take to fix this secret rare card, just a place on the limit section. Wow. That is planned obsolescence in a card game.
It's extremely funny that on top of being an arbitrarily large amount of link material this card also incidentally gains a shitload of life points while you do it.
