Firefly axolotl is done by fusing two axolotl at the embryonic stage, they do not feel pain and its just unnecessary, I mean a cross colour axolotl is cool but axolotl is cool enough for everyone
Agreed
Yeah but the risk of death for the axolotl is high. In any case we shouldn't really be promoting this stuff to the world.
@@totallypony9550 I mean the procedure is complex, transplanting cells to the axolotl embryo but after that, it's just another normal axolotl with different colours, they still function the same and still as regenerative as normal axolotl
Yeah- but still cool.
i think it's an important step for stuff like human embryos
I wonder If they ever looked at each other and be like"aint that my tail?"
😆
Lol i would be too
OMG! Leave those poor babies alone
This is a very common undergrad experiment that’s done in colleges. Raising them up and selling them is more humane than euthanizing the axolotles afterward, like what’s done when they’re for research
There is nothing humane in experimenting on animals and more so if it's to Frankenstein them.

What's important is the consideration of cruelty. Swapping embryonic tails is odd, and unnatural, but it does not affect lifespan, health, or natural behavior so it isn't cruel. Declawing, debarking, and ear cropping affects natural behavior and does cause pain, and is certainly cruel. Tail trimming is cruel is my opinion, but I'd rather everyone cut tails then EVER declaw or debark, those are just monstrous.
Again for profit?
Its unnecessary though when the only objective is for profit
If you you mean tail trimming with dogs if your work them it helps a lot bc if you don’t they are much more likely to cut there tail on barbed wire ect
whats debarking?
@@luckylilcat416 Probably cutting vocal cords..
Everybody who says this is bad but thinks pugs are okay is demented.
FR! Especially bc Embryos dont have many pain receptors ( its still bad tho) and pugs have pain since birth

Pugs are Hellspawn.
French Bulldogs are better.
Lol, but I think both are bad
I'd say it's alright, they're in their embryonic state and can't feel it, that, and it clearly doesn't harm them
You don't know it doesn't hurt them. Scientists are discovering that fetuses of all kinds feel pain at an earlier stage than they thought. There are laws being passed to give anesthesia to fetuses before abortion now because of this.

@cheesecakw 404 yeah but this procedure is completely cosmetic and their animals so it's not like they can say yes or no to it like a human could. THATS what makes this bad. The high risk for a completely unnecessary procedure.
@@elasticnoob123 Axolotl embryos can INFACT cause pain. I’m an axolotl breeder myself. Firefly procedure happens after hatching (as babies still developing have a high risk of dying). Firefly axolotls are purely unethical and cruel.

Good grief people, please go google what embryonic stage means before saying this hurts them. No, they are NOT cutting the tails of fully grown axolotls and attaching them to different bodies. Embryos don't even have the nerves necessary to feel pain, let alone the conscience needed to understand and remember pain
Why do it though regardless?
@@Jaywil07 scientific research and it looks cool
Doubt it’s a painful process, because embryos don’t exactly have the nerves yet to fell pain yet. The only concern is the person doing said process. Just becomes embryos can’t feel pain, doesn’t mean they cannot die.

Thanks for explaining really well!
For me it would depend on the rate success like how often does one die in the process if it was like over a quarter then it would be a bad idea
This is done before larvae are even half way formed in the egg and have no nerve cells. When breeding axolotls (which lay hundreds of eggs) it's best to only hatch a small portion. So just view it as a normal humane cull. The failed eggs and excess eggs are usually killed by freezing.

What would happen is these axolotl’s bred with other axolotl’s would there kids have a chance to be fireflies?
No, this is what it's known as an "acquired characteristic", which means that it's not coded in the axolotl's DNA so it can't be passed down to their descendants. It's like if you were to loose an eye in an accident, your children would still be born with 2 eyes. On the other hand, if you were born without an eye due to a genetic condition then there's a possibility that your children would inherit that same condition
