The reality in the philippines is that filipinos are not exposed to the kind of debts that people in the west normally incur like student loans, house loans, car loans etc. so their perception of debt is always in a bad light. I'm so glad I found this video because it always makes me roll my eyes when I see people complain about debt like it's the worst thing and I know twitter people are notorious for that
What you have to take note that Philippines is dependent reserves coming from superpowers (foreign bonds, securities, treasuries). US itself can issue its other than printing its own currency to pay its own debt i.e. borrowing.
i hope the historical context of the debt crisis was included, i.e., dollar interest rates, and the country’s unique position relative to Latin America and other Asian countries
8:19 “government debt can be used to finance projects” 9:28 “…how the government uses the debt…” when I hear “debt” in this video, it’s being depicted as something that can be used to fund projects ?? im confused bc intuitively debt is something incurred/a deficit so how is it being used toward the “ social good “ ? can someone pls explain the intent of this video
I hope most if not all filipinos will know how government borrowing and spending processes is done. I may only know a fraction of this system but i think its enough to guide my voting decisions this coming election. Money is undeniably everything that makes our lives
I'm quite concerned about this because Pres. Duterte's administration accumulated more than double the national dwbt of the Philippines by the end of 2021. From approx. $117B (Php 6T start of pres. Duterte's admin) to $230B (Php12T end of 2021). The national debt 2X just within the 6-year leadership. Of course I understand the pandemic cost a lot, there is also Build3x, but looking at the numbers i am so nervous that a debt crisis happened after this.
We are not like some African country or recently in Sri Lanka. If we don't see any goverment projects and don't see any changes that will create economic impact.
1st world nations all have high debt to gdp ratio. That's how they can remain a "1st world country". 3rd world countries on the other hand may have better debt to gdp ratio but state of their economy is poor. Just goes to show that high debt to gdp is not bad as long as the money borrowed is used the right way and in a way that economy grows to pay it back. Also from what I've read, most of Philippines debt is domestic meaning that the money the government borrows is from within the country and is paid back in php.
Sinabi sa video nagbabayad sila ng utang at interests na kagagwan ni Marcos, kaya malamang hindi sila masyado makakapag project. Dumagdag pa yung mga bagyo, pinatubo, lindol, at asian financial crisis
Ehem ehem some family of yellows have the issue of not continuing project for their intended purposes , then blame debt :3 making the project useless and not help in economy. Both happen in mother and the son making the debt useless and fruitless
We cannot blame filipinos, bec there is no loan protections in the Phils, not even refinancing (other banks offering to pay off your loan, give you a better rates, extended loans and cash back, especially if your collateral's present value appreciated) are available for lendees. Which government have this option, while filipinos suffered from bank's greediness. Wonder why BSP is not doing something about it? 😒

At mababayaran ang utang nang hindi magtataas ng tax at magtitipid ng mga programs, wag din po kalimutan yan

Good thing we are not expose to those debt that'll Bury Filipinos to debt which means slavery to financial institutions
yeah i know rihgt
Funny though, Sri Lanka. And to compare with US debt it's false analogy/equivalence since they fundamentally have different monetary system.

Print money to debt is fiat law
Well presented.

thats normal because infastructure that was built will pay back the debts as time goes on. thats how effective this is.
Our gdp is higher than our debt so our economy should be fine.

It can't be concluded without any factual evidence that Marcos barrowed that much money from ADB.
