I first saw Mummenschanz in the mid 70's, as a child of 9 or 10. You used to appear on certain TV shows - I believe the Carol Burnette Show was one of them. I was fascinated by the organic and surreal "creatures" appearing on stage and I still am today Wonderful performance.
@@radiationhazardsfather6310 If they were 9 or 10 in the mid-70's, they were presumably born in the mid-60's, which would put them in their mid- to late-50's now.
3 days ago I was talking to a coworker about theater. And I remembered this group.I told her I went solo to see them, when they performed at The Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia in the late 70s or early 80s.I just remember some tube like sculptures on a black stage. For the last 3 days I've been trying to remember their name.I knew it was 1 name. FINALLY!it came to me today.I can't wait to show her this video on Monday.
I have adored you since I saw you on the Muppet Show when I was about 11 or 12. 40 years later, I get to take my husband to see you again at Northridge. Thank you for your shows.
Aw, I'm a younger person but I was just thinking about the muppet show segment and ended up here; it always intrigued me. I'm glad they gained recognition from their appearance on the show and still make such charming and creative performances :)
I love mummenschanz, they are seemingly displayed as scary, and not appropriate for children, though I believe that is bias. They have a way to entertain and amuse not with words, but actions. They have this cool and unique little ability to tell a small story with no words included. I think they are amazing, and I hope you believe that too.
Phenominal! I somehow stumbled upon this art of Mummenshaz and was wondering if its still alive. Most videos I found were actually quite dated, this is super intriguing. I would love to see one in person but I feel like there arent very many productions. Very happy to have learned about this art, it is quite relaxing actually.
I went one of thier Shows, when I was living in New York and It is weird and Funny and I hope, thyed continued bringing up thier shows in the future and Im going to see one in Daytona Beach and can't wait to see it.
Looking for your tour information, as I would not want to miss the chance to see a live-show. Your compelling imagination has enchanted mine, permanently. Thank you.
I saw a couple routines they did on a program 30 years ago when I was a kid. It was so long ago that I could not remember anything other than a couple segments, one of which involved the notepad heads (turns out it was a Johnny Carson broadcast in 1990). I searched for years to find those routines again but without any details, not even the name of the group, it is hard to even know where to begin. Then came some chance vague reference in a Robot Chicken episode (of all places) and to my delight I found them again. Of course I had to check to see where they are touring. I got my tickets and can't wait to see them in February.
I love it, it's beauty, it's ART. And art is not easily achieved, my respects. (by the way, I have not learned English very well, since I am from Latin America, so if there are spelling mistakes or something like that, my apologies).
It's really too bad that this clip has music. The show we saw had no soundtrack other than the sound of an insect buzzing during the "frog" segment. To really appreciate this, run the clip with the sound off. (unfortunately, that will mean that you won't hear the rhythm created by the character with the cymbal or the sounds of the two violin characters. The music absolutely kill the power of the performance.
This is actually art.
Would you count it as puppetry?
They where once on the muppet show once
Go look at the old mummen

It's creepy
Creepy is good people need to do more things like this

This is what I'd want my future children to experience. Something deeply moving about this, truly wonderful

It is a fantastic show, this is worthy of being called art, I hope to find the opportunity to go and see this group's performances, sooner or later.

I remember watching them on the Johnny Carson Show in the 70s. My favorite skit was the Mystifies. 👍😎🇺🇸
I remember seeing you live at Centre in the Square as a kid. It's wonderful to know you're still around and still going strong.
Fascinating and Creative
