Everyone should grow some sunflowers anyway, to help the bees! They need all the help they can get, but the wild insects also love sunflowers. Love your reasons to give to your wife too....good man! Your sunflower colors you grew were beautiful!
Love this video, i've learned quite a bit, and here i thought i knew all i needed to know about sun flowers. :) Thank you for making this video and posting it.
Yer, not only do they look great, but many people don't realize that eating fresh Sunflowers sprouts are super tasty, nutritious too. Got to Love the Sunflowers. Cool vid. Happy Gardening Marty Ware
Cool video. So beautiful. And thanks for stopping by my channel. I watched your Grandfathers garden last night. (Didn't leave a comment because I was on my phone) Amazing!
I grew mammoth sunflowers last year for the birds, but never saw a single bird or bee near them. All the birds were hanging out in the malva flowers/weeds. The flowers looked great and produced huge amounts of seeds, so I've planted them again this year.
That is really nice thanking your wife with Sunflowers:-) We grew sunflowers also this year but their heads are so large that the are hanging way over.
Yay! Thank for for making this video... it was "I" who asked why you grow sunflowers.. the most important information you gave me was how it attracts the bugs we don't want going after our main crops... I actually grow lavender which attracts many, many Mason Bees. Again, thank you!
I planted some mammoth sunflower seeds and they sprouted 3 days ago and their already about an inch tall! Just wondering if they have pests when their seedlings will they do barn to the plant or can it recover on it's own? If you can't answer my question it's fine! Good luck growing :)
If your cheap like me you can get lots of seeds from Walmart by buying those giant bags of black oil bird seeds. Or you could go check at your local health grocery story they usually sell raw sunflower seeds in large bags as well. The ones I get from there are the striped ones.
I'm looking for some Dwarf Sunflowers because I really do not want the mammoth stalks to chop up in the fall. Attracting bees is my main goal of planting flowers, and sunflowers are pretty.
A quick search on the subject shows that Baker Creek and other organic farms tried to sue Monsanto. They also claim on their website that they don't use Monsanto or any of their subsidiaries for their seeds.

Have 5 different varieties to plant this year. On thing you didn't mention is the Sunflower Varieties. Check on seed package as Sunflowers very in Size & Height 🌻
The bug shown at 3:42 looks like an assassin bug, which is an excellent predator for your garden. They eat lots of pests such as stink bugs, Japanese beetles, Colorado potato beetles, etc. Another reason to grow sunflowers!
I grew 7 mammoths in my veg garden last year and they got ravaged by beetles! They only came out at night too so it took a while to figure out what was eating them. I still was able to harvest 2 grocery bags of seeds tho!
3:46 is a Wheel Bug. It is a pest killing machine, it is very beneficial and an indicator of a healthy food web. But don't get bit by it! It is very painful.
Keep in mind, bees like sunflowers. Not all bees like all sunflowers. Honey bees are kinda picky with sunflowers for example. They like mammoth for sure, but not black oil sunflowers.
I really want to grow some sunflowers after viewing this video! I've heard the sprouts are pretty good, too. Brandon, I understand you're in DFW, as am I. I've been showing my friends your videos and they've really developed an interest in growing their own food. Some, like myself, even want to keep chickens. Keep those videos coming! Also, if you're interested, I recently started an open facebook group called "Dallas - Ft. Worth Urban Homesteading" if you'd like to take a look and join!
I'm not sure about the pest benefit. Sure, it may attract some pests you already have in your garden away from your veggies. But they'll probably attract more pests that you'd never have had to begin with, and they're not all going to stick to the sunflowers.
We grow them in our farm. It started when I brought home sunflower seeds from Thailand. It's just amazingly beautiful!
Growing 4 or 5 varieties this year , ,seed heads for wild birds and young sprouts for us .
Love them always make me smile happy flowers .🇬🇧🌻
I love sunflowers, i use to plant them.for my mom every year, they are so beautiful. They remind me of her good memories.
Everyone should grow some sunflowers anyway, to help the bees! They need all the help they can get, but the wild insects also love sunflowers. Love your reasons to give to your wife too....good man! Your sunflower colors you grew were beautiful!
63 years old first time growing any plant and have huge, HUGE MAMMOTH SUNFLOWERS! Very happy!!!
this was a great video! I came across it, cause i plan on growing sunflowers this year. cant wait!
These things are by far the easiest to grow! I love them!
Beautiful sunflowers and great reasons to grow them. Thanks!

We're also growing marigolds in the vegetable garden to protect the tomatoes

Good camera! I love the colors and they do make a lovely border.
@ 1:20 "to thank her _______________________________" [Moment of silence] Lol
Janice B I noticed this and laughed too lmao
at 3:25 that's not a pest it's an assassin bug, it eats aphids and pests
That's exactly what I was going to say!
Yes! They do look alike, but those points, and those long legs, give them away. Don't hurt them they are great!!
Yay! Thank for for making this video... it was "I" who asked why you grow sunflowers.. the most important information you gave me was how it attracts the bugs we don't want going after our main crops... I actually grow lavender which attracts many, many Mason Bees. Again, thank you!

Nice....never knew the benefits of them so I may just have to give it ago -Lucky
Your welcome, looking forward to seeing more from you.
what does it mean when sunflower leaf turns yellow? Thanks for your video!
I'm looking for some Dwarf Sunflowers because I really do not want the mammoth stalks to chop up in the fall. Attracting bees is my main goal of planting flowers, and sunflowers are pretty.
On baker creek seeds they have some one of which is 2-3 feet tall with huge heads like the mammoth
+Bryce Rush - I read Baker Creek was working with Monsanto. I bought my seeds on eBay and they grew just fine, plus a hell of a lot cheaper.
A quick search on the subject shows that Baker Creek and other organic farms tried to sue Monsanto. They also claim on their website that they don't use Monsanto or any of their subsidiaries for their seeds.

I enjoy my sunflower s thank you
You welcome
I didn't know that they had that many uses in a vegetable garden. 🤔🌻😁
I doubt very much I'd wanna put a plant that attracts that many bugs inside my home, but I'll definitely grow them in my garden!
Nice flowers ill have to make a bed of them and try it out
Cool! Thanks for watching!
Awesome 👌😍😍
Do you need to stake your sunflowers? I want grow some this spring. Did you start indoors and then took them outside? Please share your secret.
Start them indoors. If you plant seeds outdoors, the critters will eat them. The stems are quite sturdy but you should be ready to stake them anyway
I grow them for their roots to amend soil. Also to eat the seeds
They are beautiful. ,,
Enjoyed your video! Thank you
wow,, mammoth grey is really that big..?? i planting some in my garden.. this is great..
What type of sunflower is that giant one? Is that a mammoth or a Mongolian giant?

I have a dying sunflower in the garden. Its head has dropped quite alot. . What happens if the head isnt cut off and dried out.
The bug shown at 3:42 looks like an assassin bug, which is an excellent predator for your garden. They eat lots of pests such as stink bugs, Japanese beetles, Colorado potato beetles, etc. Another reason to grow sunflowers!
Beautiful!.
Great video as always. Do you know if you have a beekeeper in your neighborhood? You seem to have a great supply of bees.
great job on the video...! thanks.

If I planted a mammoth sunflower and at 3 inches it was mistaken for a weed and mowed. Will it grow back?
Tasha O it is dead
That should say no
Are the velvet queen perennial? Did they bloom the first year?
Yes mine did
how long do you let your sunflower thing after you've cut it off
U can cut it off to keep bird from eating it but until it dries completely
Hy sir
Please tell me the name of each variety
How I can borrow?
Why are the leaves so pale in places?
Sprouts yes! Thanks for watching!
3:33 that is a wheelbug you can successfully grow black locust trees. They’re super predators like preying mantis.
Gotta help the little pollinating dudes!
Holy hell. Who was the wanker that disliked this video? Geez.
Bird food for me I grow and the squirrels
I grow them every year
Cool!
Sunflower also absorb heavy metals and radiation in the soil this is very useful especially if you live in a east cost
Everyone say they bees to your garden but two minutes later they say they attract pests “away from your vegetables” and I’m like WHAT?
Perhaps a better question is why not
??
My rabbits love eating sunflowers. There's nothing on a sunflower they won't eat. Seeds, foliage, stalk, they'll eat it all.
I'm not sure about the pest benefit. Sure, it may attract some pests you already have in your garden away from your veggies. But they'll probably attract more pests that you'd never have had to begin with, and they're not all going to stick to the sunflowers.
Why not?
I have a challenge- Grow a sunflower and see how tall you can grow them.
No sir! #1 is coz they're beautiful!
I think some of those bug were good guys. Assassin bugs I think a saw.
And Birds and Squirrels get to Eat the seeds also

7.26 sec lol what did you say? i think one of them bees flew into your mouth lol
Grow some fun sunflowers?
The mammoth sunflower is very sick. Sunflowers can get sick but will still produce.
Just like people 🥴
If you have earwigs they love to hide in the petal edge.
