    We grow them in our farm. It started when I brought home sunflower seeds from Thailand. It's just amazingly beautiful!

    Everyone should grow some sunflowers anyway, to help the bees! They need all the help they can get, but the wild insects also love sunflowers. Love your reasons to give to your wife too....good man! Your sunflower colors you grew were beautiful!

    I grew mammoth sunflowers last year for the birds, but never saw a single bird or bee near them. All the birds were hanging out in the malva flowers/weeds. The flowers looked great and produced huge amounts of seeds, so I've planted them again this year.

    Yay! Thank for for making this video... it was "I" who asked why you grow sunflowers.. the most important information you gave me was how it attracts the bugs we don't want going after our main crops... I actually grow lavender which attracts many, many Mason Bees. Again, thank you!

    I planted some mammoth sunflower seeds and they sprouted 3 days ago and their already about an inch tall! Just wondering if they have pests when their seedlings will they do barn to the plant or can it recover on it's own? If you can't answer my question it's fine! Good luck growing :)

    If your cheap like me you can get lots of seeds from Walmart by buying those giant bags of black oil bird seeds. Or you could go check at your local health grocery story they usually sell raw sunflower seeds in large bags as well. The ones I get from there are the striped ones.

      On baker creek seeds they have some one of which is 2-3 feet tall with huge heads like the mammoth

    • @Zincink
      @Zincink 8 років тому

      +Bryce Rush - I read Baker Creek was working with Monsanto. I bought my seeds on eBay and they grew just fine, plus a hell of a lot cheaper.

    • @DeanLogan
      @DeanLogan 8 років тому

      A quick search on the subject shows that Baker Creek and other organic farms tried to sue Monsanto. They also claim on their website that they don't use Monsanto or any of their subsidiaries for their seeds.

    I really want to grow some sunflowers after viewing this video! I've heard the sprouts are pretty good, too.
    Brandon, I understand you're in DFW, as am I. I've been showing my friends your videos and they've really developed an interest in growing their own food. Some, like myself, even want to keep chickens. Keep those videos coming!
    Also, if you're interested, I recently started an open facebook group called "Dallas - Ft. Worth Urban Homesteading" if you'd like to take a look and join!

    I'm not sure about the pest benefit. Sure, it may attract some pests you already have in your garden away from your veggies. But they'll probably attract more pests that you'd never have had to begin with, and they're not all going to stick to the sunflowers.
