Digital Nomads LEAVING BALI Find the PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭 SIARGAO is the next Bali

  • Siargao in the Philippines is being discovered by digital nomads leaving Bali. This has been the story for the last 4 years now, and we've seen the trend slowly increase over that time. In this video we discuss the developments that we've witnessed on this island, and it's potential to be the next Bali for nomadic travellers looking for an escape from what Bali has become.
Years ago when the movie Eat, Pray, Love was released, Bali became this magical escape destination for Western travellers looking to find an exotic life abroad. It was painted as a place of peace and meditation where you would be surrounded by Balinese culture and plant-based healthy foods.
Fast forward to 2024 and Bali now has a different image of hard partying, traffic, digital nomad networking, plastic pollution and disrespectful tourists abusing the area. It's very different from the peaceful image of the past.
Because of this, we meet peace seeking Digital nomads in Siargao more often these days. The type of tourists that expected a beautiful escape in Bali, but ended up looking for that feeling of paradise elsewhere.
It might be possible that Siargao will become the next Bali, so lets hope that the Philippines doesn't get into the same situation that Indonesia is in right now.
This video is filmed in the tiny town of Pacifico in the Northern section of Siargao island. It's a wonderful place currently going though it's own version of gentrification.
We hope you found this video informative and enjoyable

Yeah the standard in Philippines is definitely lower for more expensive accommodations which is why I’ve never stayed long term . Bali is crowded in 2 main tourist areas but most of the island is very quiet despite what is shown on social media. The infrastructure in Bali is soooo much better than siargao and the islands in Philippines so it makes it easier to work long term but as it develops more siargao will be a great place to stay long term

Eventually it will happen, but Bali & Indonesians and Siargao Island and filapinos are like chalk & cheese.....soooooo completely different in so many ways.
It will be 2 decades or more.
When my 4.5 year old Tissay will be 24 years old, maybe it will be a little bit closer to what Bali is now...maybe...
I first went to Bali in 1978 and onto Siargao island in 1980.
The story of how the surfing was discovered and broadcast to the world surfing community varies depending on who you talk to, but a few of us know the truth which will be hopefully forever buried.
A lot of us Aussies are leaving Bali and slowly moving to Siargao Island more towards Pacifico.
Keep up the good work, hope you get a passport one day. And yes you should start to apply for it now and use what you do as the spear head.
You would be surprised. It took me 15 years to get mine and all it really gives you is peace of mind.

Difference between Bali and Siargao is that, Bali is more on cultural environment and more popular destination while Siargao is more on natural beauty environment and on the road of booming destination. Let Siargao be not ruined by overtourism unlike the state of Bali and Phuket which is now overrun by tourists. Let Siargao be an uncrowded destination.

    • @simplyyank1119

It's fall within unsuccessful mass tourism actually (catangnan bridge food market?)sorry. Mentawai's way is the right way, Mentawaians never intend to attract small times tubers with their thirst of clicks and views, but once you type "Mentawai Islands" and filter it to just only for last month footages you'll get so many pure surfing footages, made by some world famous surfers (Barely any Indonesians in the comments section). It's has the niche, and exceed the hypes that Mentawaians don't even tried to sell and it will surely long lasting. Give some 3-4 more years for Siargao, nobody will talk about it anymore, just like Boracay, get stuck while Phuket and Bali continue getting bigger and bigger numbers year after year (for better or worse). Because in reality, for surfing destination Siargao is not worth the hype, and has no niche, visiting surfers is very slim in the proportion, even way lower than let's say south Lombok, there's so many surf schools in retreats in south Lombok. No one UA-camrs overhyped about Lombok, while in reality Lombok with it's Gilis, Rinjani and Kuta in the south will surely breach more than 1 million mark for foreign tourists this year VS let say 60-65K for Siargao? Click bait tubers give you false reality.

The only problem is why would it be the next Bali, I kept telling Filipinos, what makes Bali is Bali is their culture which not found anywhere else. If it's only about beaches and surfing waves how come this Siargao could hold its position with the likes of Mentawai Islands for example. Stop this Ill intention projections about Bali, I don't think Balinese have something to do with the endless pursuit of the fame Siargao tried so hard with it's travel vloggers contents. If it's worth the hype surfers will still come even if you try to tell them don't. With never ending vlogs in UA-cam by the resident vloggers, it's now on Siargao, whether it's waves worth the hype as the surf capital as Filipinos claim or Not. Mentawais never been promoted, yet it always get attract repeat visitors even after surf tax of 140 Dollars for two weeks of surfing.

Meaning you could get yearly figures of Bali in a century!!! But to tell unhospitable locals is stupid, that 6M tourists is a distant dreams if that was the case. Fun Fact, it's Filipinos who made bad attitudes in Bali, just few months back a Filipino family of man, mother, and sister get caught running narcotic lab in Bali!! hope they will get the Maximum, and man you'll get to see so many Filipina in changgu chasing white men, and you telling Balinese unhospitable? And all of that after Mindanao known as the source of illegal weapons for all of Southeast Asia. Please have a mirror you damn Filipino.

I watched an Australian web news story about Bali slowly being destroyed due to a big influx of tourists. It also worries me as a Filipino that Siaorgao would one day become the next Bali, having lost its natural image and degrading.
As a fellow Southeast Asian, I am concerned because the entrance of large numbers of visitors without constraints can generate a slew of problems and downfalls. Bali is already losing its character, and inhabitants are no longer enjoying the freedom to be themselves on their own island as a result of enormous modernization and an invasion of far too many tourists. Foreign tourists are likewise taking advantage of the island without considering the damage they have caused. Good news for you guys as you're going to have a new airport there in Siargao soon! According to a news article that I've read, "the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking to develop six greenfield airports including ongoing projects in Zamboanga, Dumaguete & Siargao. Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said at an aviation forum that preliminary work is ongoing for those 3 airports including land acquisition activities". He said all these will take maybe 3 to 5 years for them to implement. Another good news is that the new Siargao International Seaport with a cruise terminal in Dapa will be completed soon! I heard the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is aiming to open the new seaport by the end of this year! You may wanna watch out for that and please give us some updates if you can! 😊

It's not just what Bali used to be, it's also what Boracay used to be: there used to be ads for Boracay in the 2000s urging people to visit before "it becomes discovered (by developers and tourists, implying it will lose it's natural beauty to overdevelopment and mass tourism)". and now people reminisce of Boracay like it used to be because that's exactly what happened. not to be ideological or anything, but this will eventually happen to Siargao simply because that's what capitalism does - unless Siargao is regulated to prevent that overdevelopment, which will imply higher costs via a tax like an environmental fee or something. people will leave Siargao for other similar destinations that are cheaper, which is how Siargao was discovered in the first place - people came because that's how Bali "used to be".
i'm not an economist or anything, just my two cents.

Lombok with it's gilis, Rinjani and south coast rarely vlogged yet it will welcomes more than 1 million foreign visitors this year easy. Not a single island in your country breach a million mark, Boracay get that number if the local tourists counted, 😂😂😂 your destination only famous by vloggers (for likes and subscriptions), in reality at the end of the year, the real tourists don't come.😂😂😂. All we could get is vlogs this and that, mostly about a Bridge and ice cream seller, and after the never ending vlogs hyping it, on the end of the year It get number of foreign visitors at around 50-60K at most. Lombok rarely vlogged, yet it's gilis, Rinjani, and south Lombok surely will welcome more than 1 Millions foreign visitors. Even as strange as the name labuan bajo/komodo to your ears it gets almost 250K foreign tourists last year and get big jump this year thanks to direct international flights commenced this year and with very negligible number of vlogs about it still.
