1 - I find that my insistence on seeing the good in others, the potential in others, means it rather stings when I feel like I've been dismissed or counted out or jammed into some nasty pigeon-hole I don't belong in. I understand now my IEI housemate's focus on managing her image - she sees it as her responsibility not to give others a reason to judge her harshly, while I see it as my responsibility to be cautious in the judgments I've made.
2 - I was *obsessed* with Dostoyevsky as a child.

I can relate to this. Someone will tell me a wild story and I will think hmm...that doesn't make sense but I guess it could be possible. Where someone else might just be like, that is completely implausible, they are obviously lying.

As an EII, this is so accurate, Jack 😊 I always try to soften any judgement -despite I do my own judgments as well, but I always try to deepen that in order to find "the good". I believe there's potential and talents in every human being, and in unconditional love as a source for everything, in the end.

Why is it not also bad faith? Ne is about alternatives, not positive alternatives. If there is someone who is seen as good by others, what if they actually aren’t as good as people think? What if they are manipulating us? This sense of paranoia about negative alternative possibilities is also Ne which you didn’t touch on at all.

Ne is about expanding possibilities, not about looking for potential reasons to close down possibilities. What you describe here is Ne being used for the sake of Ni. One can see this quite a bit in both ENFJs and ENTJs, the "what if he's saying that because he really wants to earn my trust, and then he will stab me in the back later?" sort of thinking.

@@WorldSocionicsLegit, but in this video it seems that Ne is looking only at good possibilities in others, not at bad ones too

@@Techy_Cloud a bad possibility is self-defeating. It is a possibility we don't investigate for more possibilities.
So Ne (without Ni) is not inclined to see possibilities as 'bad' it is instead going to be thinking, how can we rethink this 'bad' possibility? how else can we look at it where it might have potential to explore?
It's Ni that is looking to narrow the range of possibilities by identifying some as leading to either insignificant, or even harmful outcomes. Ne is chance-giving.

@@WorldSocionics , that doesn't make sense. There is nothing inherent about negative possibilities that closes down exploration or a search for more possibilities. What if this person is actually lying and manipulating us? Ooh how interesting, what would that mean for everything we've learned about them so far? What if they didn't actually do x like they say they did. What if they lied to us about y earlier, how would that change our entire understanding of them? You can go in this loop forever. Negativity does not close anything down.

@@Retrosenescent Are you talking about speculation, or are you talking about bad faith? These are two different things. Sure, Ne+Fi is capable of running through more diabolical speculation about a person, such as the possibility someone is dishonest or lying, although Ne+Ti (with Fe) is perhaps more likely to voice such speculation because it's more controversial/interesting and they haven't got the same desire to gain a true appreciation of a person's character that Ne+Fi has. However, Ne+Fi is unlikely to be comfortable resorting to bad faith judgement, where, they choose to act on negative possibilities while there are sufficient positive possibilities, because that closes down the possibility of truly connecting and appreciating the person's character.

Which type would you say is generally more open minded, the INTj (INTP on the MBTI), or the INTp (INTJ on the MBTI). I know that as an INTP (Ti dom with auxiliary Ne) always give people the benefit of the doubt, albeit always am skeptical of what people say, whilst my INTJ (INTp) hubby doesn’t anyone, and takes a very long time for him to establish any kind of trust.

Ne is about opening possibility. Ni is about closing possibility, so INTJ Ti+Ne is more open.
