True pioneer of Rock n Roll a musical legend first class Gentleman 👏 most underrated singer. RIP Gene gone never forgotten 📻🎼 your music 🎼 will last forever 👊✊👏📻
Gene; so cruelly treated and misunderstood!!!! the music industry and his contemporaries let him down; so candid so honest and so forgiving; a unique and underestimated talent; miss you Gene!!!!!
Gene's unaffected dignified modesty and tempered composure while being interviewed by that ignoramus is admirable . Gene's character is as great as his music.
He wasn't called Sweet Gene Vincent for nothing, a gentleman but Gene should have taken out he's revolver and shot at that middle class twat like he did with Glitter. God bless you Gene for the music.
Gene was highly intelligent and had beautiful manners. He wasn't there to be manipulated .... breathes a totally different air to this toffy nosed one who was forced to listen. A little respect wouldn't have hurt none
Thanks for posting this. I love the bit when he talks well of John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival (one of the best bands in the history of Rock&Roll, and the very top in 1969-1972). Gene Vincent was a great singer, one of the true pioneers of Rock'n'Roll, and - for those who know something about his life - quite obviously a great man
This is a very good interview. Some people do think that a singer can only be "country" or "rock 'n' roll" or whatever. In Ireland, this is very much the stream of thought as well. I love Gene Vincent, Moon Mullican, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley - artists who sing everything. I try to do this on my own CDs and when I sing live as well as it is more interesting and, yes, rock 'n' roll and country (and blues) are all very similar as Gene says.
I was lucky enough to see Gene around this time and he put on a really great show. It is so poignant listening to this interview with a very insensitive interviewer to hear how calmly Gene deals with his questions.
what a brilliant rocker..no wonder he drank so hard..So sad.....he died in Newall, Ca near Magic Mt and buried at Eternal Valley...and yes, his interviewer is a jerk..
I don't care for the tone of this interviewer, his attitude annoyed me and I am surprised gene kept polite and cool (I felt like slapping him), it seemed like he just wanted to slag every thing off about him. I hate comparing artists because I like so many different styles and voice tones, and Gene has a unique unmistakable sounding voice. I am so glad we can still hear his records and see videos of him.
You know Gene? That's really cool. And yes-this is obviously him. I've heard other interviews with him-that voice is unmistakeable. I wonder if anyone has ever brought this to John Fogerty's attention. Personally, I would be deeply honoured to know that such a great artist as Gene Vincent had such a high opinion of my music.
" I don't have to work, I'm paid from the United States Government....." He might still be with us if he could have gotten the proper medical care years before.
I think he was a nice guy. And humble too. At least he never claimed being the king, like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis or Chuck Berry did. He did his own thing. He was the man.
Actually Gene in his prime had an excellent voice; very on key & a nice tone to boot. He recorded a slew of great songs (Race With The Devil; Who Slapped John; Blue Jean Bop for starters) besides Be Bop A Lu La. His back up band the Blue Caps were amazing; check out the lead guitarist in particular. Finally the reason the English liked him was because he was actually very talened, cool, & he would actally travel to England. Note that they liked Eddie Cochran & Buddy Holly when the USA didn't.
I grew up in this Era, loved Gene, Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly, and the rest of the 50's and 60's who were the beginning of ROCK N ROLL. These were the greats and I feel lucky to have grown up in this Era, as I'm 78 years old and still can dance. God Bless Gene.
Many thanks for a chance to hear this, & if you are a rock'n'roll fan, this is the sort of idiot that people like Gene were up against back then. Gene must have looked pretty ill by this time, & he sounds it as well. But,.... i think he gave this bloke the right old run around. I think my champion from this era has to be Stuart Coleman. Whether it be on radio London ' echos' Or Radio Ones ' It's rock'n'roll', Stu was the business! Rock on Gene.
This jerk asking the questions obviously doesn't have a clue about ROCK N ROLL. Gene didn't back down because he knew he was who he was, never a doubt. God Bless Gene & his music, which still lives on today.
The most interesting part of the interview, after bating Gene constantly through out, he is suddenly told by Gene that 'he didn't have to work after all'. I don't think the interviewer did his homework properly, & in the end lacked any foresight,.....so much for trying to be trendy a?. Many thanks for a chance to hear this, the bottom line is you either like Rock'n'roll or you don't, but if your going to interview on of the greats, give them some respect. Rock on Gene!
LOVE SWEET GENE !!! This guy that was interviewing Gene was a real Jerk * Gene held his disgust for this guy *** He took a lot of crap over the years and God Bless him ! Man I'd like to slap this guy for showing so much disrespect towards Gene *** RIP SWEET GENE *** xx
Did Gene really have four kids ? I always thought Melody Jean was his only child. And , yes , the interviewer was insensitive and clueless , but Gene handled him very well.
Gene was wrong about no younger people coming to see him. I used to go and see him from when I was 15 years old in the late 60's andright thru the 70's
I knew Gene personally for 14 fabulous years * Spent precious time with him . He was Magic ! I loved and adored him . Miss him everyday. I'm surrounded with his pictures and music . I write about him so others may get a little insight into the man and his music * I was truly blessed to have had him in my life . I loved the great singer/performer , but it was the man behind the scene that I loved dearly. There has never been another !
Quixote010 You dont seem to know anything about Gene thats why you shouldn´t comment this video and get people upset. Just enjoy his songs, get to know more about him..!
I knew Gene for 14 years * I knew his heart , I understood him * I loved him , he was so endearing to me ** And one of the greatest rock performers of all time * To me he was the "True King Of Rock'n'Roll" But so much more *** He had a beautiful voice and sang songs that would pull at your heart strings > The voice of an angel *** Just listen to his Ballads * He put all his emotions into his music , could feel the pain, the sorrow * Sang from his heart * Telling a story, often times his story * RIP SWEET GENE xx
Gene is totally right! Jerry played the same songs rock, country ,blues! I hate the touchless interviewer! I still get pissed off at him even if its 40 years ago! Gene Vincent was great and seemed to be very humble!
Gene was a very humble man *Gene was quiet and actually an introvert * No egotism or arrogance . There was a peaceful sweetness in his face as the years waned * Even when he was the shortest member of a group which was often , he always stood out .He was Gene Vincent and was therefore the center of attention . So sad, at 36 looked over 50, since 1960 was in constant pain and no one gave him a chance

He died so young.
This sounds very authentic. I don't understand why you would question the authenticity of it. Listen to Lavender Blue. You will recognize his voice.
Absolutely, it's definitely real.
this IS Gene Vincent, those who think it is not then do not know Genes voice...Christ almighty!
What are u saying 😂
He does not need to change his style. Beep bop a lula pulled out of the sky by Gene Vincent the best rock and roll song ever.
Thank God for this great performer. A real man.
What a sweet guy
Bee bop a hula is my favorite song.

lil´bit of sad that Gene lost his life shortly after this inter view..,.
I am told he did stick to his guns, a point that interviewer was clearly unaware of.

it's him, a couple weeks before he died
There's no respect from the interviewer. Even in the radically different scenario that was 1971 you'd expect to recognise class.
this interview could only have been conducted Oct 1 - Oct 12, for he died on the 12th day of October in that year.
