  • @unitedwestanddividedwefall2073

    I have 1 that hasn't grown in 2 yrs but still green & no flowers has bloomed
    so I have a nice size pot I can put it in & give it everything it needs & pray I
    can get to grow it's barely a foot tall & if that doesn't work then it's going
    to a friends place & see if he can get to grow cause it's not doing nothing.

    I wish these videos talked more about light conditions…

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  Рік тому

      We're happy to help! Azalea light requirements vary depending on type and planting zone. Usually afternoon shade is recommended, especially in warmer areas. However, too much shade can result in weak growth and poor bloom production.

    I live in Malta. It's right in the Mediterranean where it's humid and hot I summer and max 10°C in winter. Do you think they would live in our zone. Water is hard. Thank you for your advice.

    Very helpful vid thank you. May I ask which azalea is the tall pink one at 5.35 in video & will it be OK in the UK climate? Thank you x

      Thank you! I cannot identify the exact variety but I do have a 'Boudoir' at my home in the U.S. that is very similar although the bloom color is a bit more bright pink. I would definitely consult with your local garden center on the hardiness pink varieties available for your rea.

      Have you visited the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park, London? Every azalea seems happy there (and in April bloom right now).

    Very very helpful, thank you 💞! I ruined many Azalea's 😭. Now this one Is blooming so beautiful in decembar in big pot in my garden 🤗. Im so happy! I put malch and shawl around 🤗 there Is still warm outside but windy and I saw some fall leaves ,so I cover her. It Is small shrub, maybe the leaves will fall,I saw evergreen Rhododendrons ,but they Are very big. How to save my Azalea this Winter . To Make some smail house ,to cover ? I dont know is it acceptsble to snow fall over small Azalea or dont allow that?

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  Рік тому

      A layer of snow can actually help insulate the plant through the coldest months. However, heavy snow load could break young, frail branches so keep an eye out on it. There are both evergreen and deciduous azaleas so soon you may know which type you have whether or not they retain most of their leaves.

    what type of pot and drainage is needed to keep healthy plant root?

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  2 роки тому +1

      The best place for an Azalea is in the ground as long as they are hardy for your area. A pot at least twice as wide as the root ball would be ideal. A fast draining mix such as peat and pine bark would be a great choice. Also, be sure to double check that the container contains drainage holes.

    I live in Utah and Utah State agriculture department says everywhere in Utah has alkaline soils. Should azaleas be avoided in states with alkaline soil? Or if I’m limiting it to one small flower bed can I modify the pH enough in that small area?

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  2 роки тому +2

      It can be difficult to grow Azaleas and their relatives in soil with a high pH. You could possibly build a raised bed or grow them in containers as you could regulate the pH with soil additives. However, they may need to be protected over the winter so that the roots do not freeze.

      Add amendment to make the soil around your planting spot more acidic.
      Hollytone by Espoma is for acid living plants.
      Don't give up enjoying these lovely plants! Peat moss will help with water retention if that is needed.
      I use Espoma organic fertilizers to feed and condition the soil. It is better than chemical feeding, which only feeds the plant for a limited time but does not improve the soil by adding nutrients and attracting earthworms-- a very healthy sign your soil is doing well! Mulch, but keep it off the plants base.
      Azalea root system is shallow so water well and perhaps more frequently than other evergreens. I water my hydrangeas and azaleas about the same frequency.

      @@Gardeningknowhow I am wanting to incorporate Azaleas into a self watering raised bed, do you think they'd do ok? Understand they like a well drained soil and a high PH, so I think adding course sand and bark mulch to the the composite should give better aeration.

    Do you show golden lights azaleas

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  2 місяці тому

      The azalea you see at 0:59 might be Golden Lights, but it also looks similar to a variety known as Klondyke. However, I'm unsure of the exact variety being shown.

    I like to have max three feet tall, can you help me which one is the type I should get?

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  7 місяців тому

      Azalea 'Karen' (purple), 'Herbert' (red) and 'Cascade' (white) are a few of my favorite azaleas that are ultra hardy and usually grow to 3-4' tall or less.

    I planted 3 azalea bushes in my lawn about 2 months ago when they were in bloom but now their leaves r drooping down and one of the plants leaves have actually turned brown and I'm afraid they r dying. Is there any way I can save them?

    • @Gardeningknowhow
      @Gardeningknowhow  Рік тому +2

      Many times azaleas will droop if they have become too dry or too wet. While the soil can remain moist at times, the soil also needs to drain well as azalea roots do not like to sit in water. There are other common issues of azaleas and I will link that article for you here as well. - www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/azalea/common-azalea-problems.htm
