Wonderful heartfelt performance by Yoonshin Song.........nice orchestra with understanding conductor.....good to see orchestra leaders strut their stuff.....coming from the centre of the musical universe of talent...Korea...this is the top tier...😊❤
I was at this concert, but I arrived late and had to stand in the wings. It was still fantastic. The DSO is a world-class orchestra and we are very fortunate to have Yoonshin and maestro Slatkin.
I grew up with the old David Oistrakh/Anatole Fistoulari LP, and it was great to hear this work once again after so many years in what is a sensitive, clean, and unaffected performance.
Wowza! Never thought I would hear anyone perform this concerto (which should be more well known than it is) with the warmth and technical brilliance of Oistrakh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marvelous, just marvelous. How lucky we are to have this young lady as concertmaster.
Ok. First thing. There are TWO recordings which are better than Oistrakhs: Kogan AND Szeryng. Please dont compare this lady with such monsters if you ARE NOT a violinist and never played this piece.
@@leonardoiglesias2394 Another jackass thing to say. There are far more of us buying tickets to see concerts and recordings to listen to at home who have never played this piece and ALL OF US are entitled to opinions.
That's frigging awesome!!!!! I've heard many performances of the same piece on public but this right hand movement and those col legno like moves that's so astonishing, I'm gawping
Not even near to those names you said, sorry. She is quite good, I agree, but not as good. Not even near Ricci, which is perhaps the best version of this concerto under the leading of Anatole Fistoulari (1956) ua-cam.com/video/gfGs-NuFT4A/v-deo.html
@@sergioazevedo7390 Ha Ha. My view changes all the time. Since early 1960s, my view of certain violinists, other musicians, orchestras, ensembles, changes all the time, including Heifetz, Oistrakh, Szeryng, Ricci, et al,; orchestras like Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, etc. Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic etc. etc. (including their conductors). My view of them changes from time to time, sometimes more favorable, sometimes less. There is no telling my view on Ms Yoonshin Song will or may change. That is my more than 50 years experience in listening.
The conductor must stay slightly ahead of the beat - especially in concertos (most orchestras play a little behind the beat regardless). If he was precisely with the soloist, the orchestra would be behind her, and that's not comfortable at all - makes the soloist feel like they are dragging a ton of bricks.

Looks like she's in Houston now under Maestro Orozco-Estrada. Wow, two big gains for Houston!

One gifted lady. And well done maestro and ladies and gentlemen of the orchestra.

My spirit soared listening at this beautiful concertista, incredible orchestra, incredible maestro. All together, a priceless jewel

Khacahturian in awesome.. Whoever plays...
Truly outstanding!! Bravo.... Detroit is lucky to have such a wonderful concertmaster.
She moved to Houston.
@@pauldeck4500 Yes. I didn't know that. She is the concertmaster there now. That was just last year - August, 2019. Houston is lucky!!!!
Wow what an incredible sound she elicits from her instrument! This video certainly deserves more views than this.....!
Fabulous....! Bravo..!
Just so welcome to her returning as soloist. I have recordings of Oistrakh, Kogan, Szeryng etc. this is just as good.

I agree with Sergio. Very good playing but she just doesn't have the fire and brilliance of Oistrakh.
Superb!
Nice video! Keep it up!
Great work

did someone pop their string lol? 38:32

The composer apparently didn't know how to end the concerto without hitting tonic a few extra times.
Made me giggle

Why is the conductor so far ahead of the beat?

That doesn't look like James Ehnes to me.
That's him but he just looks a bit different. I think it's the makeup
