I Remember this episode from when I was a kid. Shocked me, then. Amazes me now -- so much better that "woke" TV I haven't watched in years.

Interesting music at the start. The tune resurfaced as the song "The carnival is over" by the Australian group "The Seekers" - a big hit for them here in the UK.
The "bad guy" in the black hat is Martin Landau and the sympathetic saloon woman is Jeanne Cooper. Jeanne played Mrs. Chancelor on The Young and Restless.
@@ingleringlet-snipps3rd449 I remember this episode where the potion gave you the quickness, but the potion gave the same exact speed boost to all users of the elixir, which meant everybody that used it was at equal footing. I also suspected that the snake-oil salesman probably gave the potion to the young guy knowing that he would give the potion to his rival to get the result that occurred. If you watched the episode, there's no indication that the younger gunslinger was good at shooting before he faced off with the older drunk guy. I love the fact that this episode had Martin Landau and Doug McClure as the opposing actors. These guys were major actors in the 1960-1980s, Martin for mission impossible TV series, Space 1999, and EDtv (1999), while Doug did a lot of cowboy shows, but he died young because he smoked too much, so, he died of lung cancer.

One of many western-themed stories by Serling. The 1950's TV programming featured over forty series based in the Old West. Rod targeted that audience zeitgeist very well. He lampooned TV's heroes deliciously in " Showdown with Rance McGrew " from season three. Landau was a super villain!
Serling's stories involving death were very interesting. He was a veteran of of extremely harsh combat in the Pacific where his battalion was surrounded and cut to pieces by the Japanese. He was only 17.
@@annarodriguez9868 I grew up in the 1950s and 1960s most of the men were WWI, WWII, or Korean War vets. It was a very safe time to be a kid because most adults looked after us. Most vet did not tell civilians what they went through but I got to listen in on some of the war stories when the men were talking by themselves. Interesting and horrifying. Most carried nightmares for the rest of their lives. Good Luck, Rick
@@richardross7219 My dad was 16 and joined the navy thinking he would be shipped off to battle, but ended up in Long Beach from 43 to 45. My husband went to Vietnam in 67 and never talked about it, but he had terrible nightmares for years. It wasn't until we saw Saving Private Ryan in 98 that I got a little glimpse of what he and all soldiers saw and experienced.

One guy asked "When do the nightmares stop, its been 25 years since I came home from Khe Sanh". A very old man in a wheel chair said "Its been 75 years since I came home from the trenches of France, they haven't stopped yet". Veterans pay an extremely high price for serving. True story: I went into surgery and was told that I would be discharged 3 days later. I woke up completely paralyzed from the neck down...that's a twilight zone episode I wouldn't wish on anyone. Bad part is that it's the same episode EVERY day...
@@thomascollins4325 I was near retirement...stopped feeling sorry for myself after seeing KIDS like this...my lowest moment as a human was being transferred to a new hospital. I was near the door and was separated from the patient next to me by a curtain... I couldn't get any rest because the doctor kept coming into the room and the other person's constant moaning... I was besides myself with anger until I heard him say, "Mommy"... ...come to find out he was a 15yr old kid that went for a drive with a friend when he was accidentally shot in the neck and would be a paraplegic the rest of his life...my low point.

What you see here is that which we call " homeless " now, and where they used to be few in number and looked upon with ridicule and derision, we now spend millions accommodating them. And their numbers have increased exponentially. Doesn't seem like much of a success story, does it?

Twilight Zone was one of the greatest shows "ever" on TV. The junk on TV today is a farce.
