I actually liked the octopus scene and I was completely upset that it was cut out when I recently brought the DVD lol. As a kid they played it on TV and that's how I remembered it.
Me too.
Same with me, I can't get over it missing.
The Blue Crab before DVDs were around nobody beloved me there was a octopus in it.
It was cut from the original vhs as well, to where I didn't even know it existed until I saw a special tv release that had the deleted scenes in it.
I've never seen it! Octopus scene?!! Is it on YT?!!
I love how blunt Astin is about the octopus sucking
My parents recorded the Goonies on VHS, off of the TV, when we were kids (paused and restarted for all the commercial breaks!). It had the Octopus scene and that's how I always saw the film. That was one of my favorite parts.
Haha nice that's how I always watched it too. The level of recording dedication! I surely would have messed it up 😄
You know I didnt notice Richards laugh when they took the spoon from Chunk. I rewatched it and had to play it back multiple times and listen hard to catch it. All this time I thought it was Chunk.
Most of the things they cut were comedy bits. The dancing octopus, the gorillas, finding a "plug" that drains the water. It seems like they intended this to be a pretty zany comedy but gradually leaned further into the adventure angle. Most of the comedy that stayed in was character comedy and dialogue rather than crazy bits.
For a Spielberg production that octopus looked awful
@@starwarsroo2448 There's a reason he rarely showed the shark in Jaws. 😂
I actually find it very realistically shot so I appreciate how it turned out. Lol I don’t notice any mistakes 😂
the octopus scene was actually IN the movie if you watched it on the Disney channel back in the 80s. There was an alteration though. Data or mouth put headphones hear its 'ears' and it scares the beast away
It actually started dancing. That's the reason that scene was too silly even for a children movie.
yeah I don't know If I've seen it since the 80s... I remember enjoying it. I remember the main characters. and watching the clip I'm sure I saw the octopus and thought it was pretty scary until you see the fake beak thing and the headphones stuff haha. but event the thought of a giant monster with a beak thing under water was terrifying for a kid.. I think it's sad they cgi'd stuff with these old movies. c'mon- move on. no one would hear the director laughing at chunk cause everyone in the theatre would be laughing their heads off
My brother & I used to fight over the octopus scene existing (I saw it & he kept saying I was lying, didn't exist, etc.) Then I'd say how obviously I was right because Data still talks about it at the end. This all feels very validating lol.
The octopus was VERY scary!
@The Doctor Same Here It Was The Best!
@The Doctor he’s quoting the movie... genius.
"Awwctopus?"
Seriously, they didn't think to make that one simple edit? Always thought that was strange.
I remember watching Goonies on WPIX Channel 11 and this octopus scene was in the movie. Never knew it was deleted.
i love the movie but i only watch it once or twice a year , i enjoy it and it makes me feel young , i was 9 when it came out , but im always kinda sad when it ends cuz ill never live those fun times i think of when i watch it again
That's notsalgia for ya. Just gotta keep making new memories
We're the same age as I was 9 when Goonies came out..
And, it does bring back find memories, I even sing along with Cindi Lauper when "Good Enough" plays during the movie, lol
Yeah nostalgia is bittersweet for sure 😢
I watched it once with the scene, don't know how, but I clearly remember my dad projecting it on a sheet in the living room.
It was always dumb to delete the octopus scene, especially when the kids mention it near the end.
But them.talking about it, implies that they are going to embelish.their story
was a great scene. we as kids were hoping to ride 1000 leagues under the seas before it got dug up to just see some kinda 80s wonderful i miss that line
The mess ups kinda helped make the movie in a way I think in a weird sorta way but either way the Goonies hands down one of the very best movies period.
From the 80s yeah 💯 percent but u should try watching newer movies 😂
So there WAS an octopus!
*watching*
Yeah, that was pretty bad.
The water scene would have been interesting and intense
The movie is so good though!!!! Perfection! :)
Agreed!!! I have an emotional attachment to The Goonies!
“Han walking over Jar Jar Binks...”I died.
I wish that’s what that scene was. Jar jar is working on some maintenance thing when Han steps on him and then just a slow close up of his face with a single tear. Lolol
Anyway at the final scene they kept the part in which Data mentioned the octopus.
*that treasure should have been mine.*
Chester Copperpot Yes, it should have, sir. May I ask why you were carrying around baseball cards with you ? I was just curious. Thanks.
Chester Copperpot those kids needed the treasure to save their homes
How did the boulder collapse on top of you without you setting off the trap?
Yeah well u were a pro and an expert almost. But it’s too late already because you’re dead 💀. one eye Willy killed u.
Sucks to be you so to speak.
@@c.j.torres3577 You should see yourself. Lying on the ground half buried in the dirt. Both your legs crushed. Insects crawling all over you and beetles in your eyesockets. Not a pleasant sight.
When Disney was playing Goonies back in the Eisner days of Disney, rhs Octopus scene and one other one was edited back. Still the same as the DVD one. It wasn't a bad scene by any means, just a little too unrealistic to have an octopus dancing and splashing in the water with Data's cassette player.
It looked absolutely terrible
Lol the dancing Octopus 🕺🐙. Mann the 80s were a wild time 😄💕👍
"the octopus was scary" man that bothered the hell out of me
Lol. Probably they thinking the audience be so wrapped in the story line and some of the action no would notice the bloopers, i did not notice it first time i saw it.
The octopus was hilarious!
hey you guys as a farther now wow let my 9 yr old see that for the 1st time during lockdown he sat for the whole movie and he was so engrosed in the film he loved character chunk but my son shouts that phrase every day to his frieimds
I just learned today that there was an actual octopus scene in the movie from watching a longplay of the Commodore 64 game.
Just wanna point out that he Said "Han walking over Jar Jar Binks to get into the Millennium Falcon, when they added that in later on." Jabba the Hutt. Not Jar Jar Wtf.😂
This scene and the one where the bully guy rolls the map like it's a blunt were both in some VHS copy I had. I figured they removed it from the dvd version because the first one is a drug reference and the octopus scene because the blonde girl though brad was touching her leg and the octopus was damn near molesting her. Yet... both scenes are on the DVD's bonus features. :/
I’m pretty positive that Octopi have no sexual attraction to humans, that is in your head. At the most it wanted to eat her. And no they shouldn’t have been deleted because of puritanical people like you 😠
First off there is no Brad, his name was Brand and second it was Mouth she thought was touching her leg, leading her to slap him in the face lol
Wait I thought he got killed by a demogorgan 😁
A demo dog to be more precise #strangerthings
The Encino man brought him back to life.
The octopus looked like a mutated Jeff Cohen.
I like the octopus. I mean they already had the big creature Sloth so they might as well of had an octopus.
dmace81 *have had*. Do it right.
@@minion278 grammar nazi
The mess ups make the movie awesome!!!!
Love you samwise
Like others, I saw the octopus scene on TV in the 80s.
They should put it back in now.
I remember the Octupus scene. Later it was gone.
The Bathroom flood would’ve been interesting
The octopus ruled!
I cant decide if Sean here looks more like Fred Flinstone or a Homer Simpson with hair
hyfy1970 He looks like the dad from License to drive Richard Masur
@@brushyoteef8922 Yup I knew he looked like someone but you nailed it!
Sean Astin is giving me a Rich Evans vibe. Probably just me
Samwise gamgee.
They shouldn't of cut the store scene out
I just watched the end and chunk says there was an octopus and a pirate ship! And I was like what octopus. Now I know.
Incorrect, Data says "the octopus was very scary, it was very dangerous" and Brand says " and when we found the pirate ship"
Octopus? :D
I liked it when it was dancing
My guess about the goofs left in? They ran out of $.
THTS hilarious
I think the movie was better without the octopus.

@@_just_a_random_artist_ LOL
horrible guy
You can blatantly see its robotic and is on a track and following a terrible program like the old chuckee cheese animatronics, so so glad they left it out,,, then back in 2000 Disney Channel decided it should be back in the movie🙄
Sean is starting to look like sloth after all these years..
