A devotee called Martin tells Papaji, "When I am quiet I am not disturbed by thought that comes and goes. Please remove doubts and ignorance. 'I-thought' is a thin film layer."
Papaji replies, "Satsang apprise you of the fact that there is no coming and no going. Now you have to be the observer of the 'I' and separate yourself from it. Find out who the observer is. Inquire into the raising of the 'I-thought.' You will recognize ‘I am. I am.’ Let there be no thinking, no effort, for one instant of time."
Papaji speaks about an arrogant girl who came to see him the day before and uses her example to explain about the Vedic tradition to approach a teacher with humility and respect.

Oh, very nice, the “l” is just another thought!!! But, some concentrate on the “l” because it is the very first thought that gives rise to all others. Nisargadatta concentrated on the “I” which lead to full bloom realization. And, that is a practice.

When a Guru gives you instructions, it is like a prescription from a doctor. You don’t change it.
It would be gross arrogance to not follow implicitly the instructions of a Guru, if you prostrated before him in all humility.
Everybody knows that the I AM is not the ONE watching. I am sure that Nisargadatta read the same books and heard the same spiritual cliches and jargon that we all bandy about.
But, you can’t put the cart before the horse.
When Nisargadatta followed that mundane I AM instruction to its final destination, it ripened fully into awareness.
We all watch these videos and we all know the right answers and can talk the talk. However, most of us never submitted fully to the crucible to be melted by the heat of sadhana.
Most would rather remain on the outside, confident in their ego that they hold the correct answers, but never tasting the fullness of the nectar.
But, I realize that all the students of Ramana Maharishi that later blossomed, taught in with different methods and paths.
Papaji is the most direct. And he prescribes no method. But, in all honesty, how many arrive with no method and no practice?
Even all those in that room in the presence of the Guru, how many walked away completely satisfied?
Sadhana is a time-honored tradition. Who really wants to follow its rigors if it can be given as easily as air and water? But, for most it is necessary.
My guru admonished that enlightenment is easy. But, the steps taken to prepare for final enlightenment can be quite tedious for most.
He is so kind, and so authentic, so traditional, yet not bound to a tradition; he is just present here and now. If you are ready, you’ll get it. If not, you must ponder again and again and come back. Go to him with an empty cup and you get 4 ounces. Go to Him with an empty ocean, and He makes it full.

There is no trying or problems for there is no TIME, no thought, all MIND is Past Knowledge. Know nothing, do nothing in TIME and thus only the body/mind works in TIME. Dissolve Time and Absolute IS beyond the beyond the beyond. Absolute IS beyond Life, beyond Time, beyond Mind. Nothing exists that is known. The thought that can't be rid of is by the one that thinks it is the body/name/form. That has never existed.

Ahhh what an understanding Papaji is giving, looking for the souce of self "i" within can never be found. As the rivers source is in the mountains far from the ocean, so is the "I." Therefore, there is no "I" to find in enlightenment. If there is no "I" then there's no effort to find it! Relax.

observation of thought. object and subject of observation. the observer is separated. then watch i thought. separate yourself from the observer. the river flows into the ocean.
The word "I" comes from the Ego. Seperate the Ego from your true self. Close your eyes and think to yourself,
"This is me"
When you hear "this is me" in your mind, the hearer is the observer (your true self), the speaker is the "I", the ego, who is to be observed!
Right now who you are, or think you are is really what your ego has identified itself to be. Mostly things and/or people. Thats why we sometimes "lose ourselves" when we lose those things and/or people.
Find your true self!, stop letting the Ego identify you, and you will find peace

Papaji described the Self like an object (it has no form, no name... like this) So “Self” looks like an observed thing, but what is the “observer”? What is beyond that “self”?
I AM is the observer of all things, which when focused on disappears leaving only ISness, with no identity, no beingness, no me, just IS. Nothing to see only BE, true seeing is BEing, not a visual.

J.Krishnamurti says Observer is the Observed, but Papa ji says no..🤔
depends how subtle the seeing is. there is an observer which can be observed. the observer known as the separate self is observed by the greater all encompassing Self. But this will only make sense after more calm and steady abiding or maybe not but I hope it helps clarify.
They're different levels. K asks, "if you are fragmented which of the fragments is the observer?" If you are analysing or trying to solve a problem thinking you are separate from the problem then that's just the same problem. The observer IS the observed!
The other level is basic meditation practice in which there is a sense of an awareness which is separate from the passing thoughts, feelings, physical sensations. None of these are "you" so you become more serene, less reactive, less identified. That's a good start!
The "next step" is self inquiry, (What is the witness? Who am I?) Or pure devotion.
The Zen modality answers this best of all, IMO. Something more like Seung Sahn would say "if you say the observer is the observed I hit you 30 times! If you say the observer is separate from the observed I hit you 30 times! Now what is this?"
"I" is a thought, when "I" tries to observe thought, jk points out that observer is the observed.
What Krishnamurti means is that observer(I) is the observed(thoughts). What he means here is that the 'I' that acts like a observer is just like other thought objects meaning the observed.

Don’t let the sneaky ego bind you back to a “concept” of observer and observed as one or observer or observed as two. The pointer is just be the observer THEN you will see for yourself!
It’s like the teacher pointing his finger to the moon. Is the finger and moon the same? Is the finger and moon separated? No, the pointer is for you to actually LOOK at the moon. Don’t fall back into thoughts/concepts.

Namaste. Yes, I think I get your point, I do know the work of Krishnamurti, the base is the same, both lead the initial 'inquiry' both say Guru search is not needed...find for yourself...
But Papaji cuts faster to the end result, whereas Krishnamurti just 'points' the direction...
For example, Papaji separates immediately the observer from the object, the I from the Self, the result is instantaneous...
Krishnamurti starts the inquiry where 'the' 'observer and the object are the same'... he calls himself the 'speaker'... meanwhile Papaji cuts it through and you become ' ocean' immediately...
