Thank you!! I spent many years in Taipei, and I miss that beautiful island - Taiwan #1!!
Si Gua is great for soup, too. Fish soup, pork rib soup, or any other seafood soup.
definitely!

We also use this for soup and noodles 😋😋😋😋
Why thumbnail said it's weird..?
This is a immune boosting vegetable with great taste
I tried this dish. But I added bit turmeric powder, pepper powder & bit of Crushed chilies too because I like bit of spicy. It tasted very good . TKS 4 sharing.
very nice! sounds delicious. Probably my favorite vegetable.
I am going to buy this vegetable next time, never know how to cook it
Thanks for the recipe we were at an Asian market yesterday and they had them on sale. We didn't buy any because we were sure of how to prepare it next trip we'll pick some up.
The one he used was Way too Big choose smaller ones they are sweet and small one's I bread with cornmeal and fry like okra
These are called torai in India
We vegetarians eat by making torai Ki sabzi with roti since ages...never felt the need to eat meat...
That's why much of Indian population is Vegetarian
Thanks. Someone gave this vegetable to me but didn’t tell me what it was.
I like si hua but the last time it was bitter.!!!! I usually uses soya sauce and a little bit of sugar. Yummy
usually if they're bitter, just shave off more of the skin/green bark. Some are just bitter throughout...I've no reliable way to telling!
It's bitter because it's been stored for too long. Next time, make sure it's fresh.
DEAR Sir, I am so thankfully to may listen to YOUR SWEET POWERFULLY RESTGIVING VOICE TO TELL US ABOUT LOOFAH 🏆🤗🤣🎉Here in SURINAME that is in South America we eat lots of Loofah. I love it the best to cut them in circles and the I add some salt and wait a little bit. Then when the water is out of the fruitveggie I fry it with lots of garlic / onions/ pepper/ and some drye shrimps. After it is beatiful licht green I sprankle some of the juice that came out of the fruitveggie and sime lemon juice. It is sooooo Goood with brown bread.
God bless you tooo in 2022. And sray SAFE
CIAO CIAO
Haha THANK YOU!! So interesting that dried shrimp goes well with loofah regardless of the culinary tradition...I think a dash of fresh lemon juice would be great too - will try your Suriname method soon. Have a great 2022 and happy cooking!!!
Is removing the skin a must or can they be sliced and cooked skin on?
No it's not like a cucumber the skin is hard and leathery and bitter - it must be removed.

তরি কয়েক জায়গায় বলে বটে কিন্তু সেটা একটু আলাদা
যেন।
Nothing weird about it, it is a Ridge Gourd, called so because of the ridges on the skin.... Widely used in India, for various curries and even desserts.
Not weird to us either, but weird to an American audience, as various cheeses are weird to a Chinese one.
Turai tori... 😆 Weekly indo pak weekly menu is incomplete without it 😂
Is it bitter
nah only if you leave some skin on
@@CookingandFishing ok thanks i am.going to try it for the first time😊
@@marlamanicoum8399 good luck!!
Hi is this a luffa?
It is! there are other varieties of luffa as well. There's one that looks like a fat zucchini...not nearly as cool. We prefer the gnarly one!
@@CookingandFishing thanks...what is the name of this luffa?how long does it take to harvest when there long and also can this be made into a sponge when dried ?thank you much
I've never grown them, so can't answer. These do mature into a rough sponge!
@@CookingandFishing ok thanks
there is an indian version of this as well
oyong
My wife complained all the time that Si-Gua turning black under heat. We have heard about not using iron pan, not adding salt, etc but nothing works. What's you secret?
this variety will not turn black like luffa
better dont need to add water the lufa itself has water
just a splash to get the steam going

I didn't know luffa's are strange
something is strange to someone somewhere in the world :)
I think he over peeled it and cut edges too much! Like seriously, try reducing food wastage as much as possible
Lol ok
He did the right way to cut...if skin and ends parts are not removed enough, there is a chance of BITTER taste.
Nice knife🔪
Thanks 👍
It's not 'Chinese' loofah. This vege grows mostly in Asia not just China. And it's not weird just because of the shape. There are more type of vegetables that may not be available in the West. But do more study before calling anything weird or unique or ... because it's not at all 😉
lol okay, so nothing is "weird" or novel, bc chances are it's familiar to SOMEONE correct? My Chinese parents think cheese is weird. I think loofah is weird (but delicious). If you grew up eating it, congratulations...but "weird" is not necessarily derogatory. Anyway, thank you for watching!
@cooling and fishing,....Well said, you are absolutely right.
Sinqua or torai as called in Hindi is very much nutritious...west needs to rise above meat ...we Vegetarian Indians eat many such vegetables since ages passed on to us from our ancestors and trust me never felt the need to eat meat 😎
Gourds are a great source of nutrition...
Balanced eating of dal sabzi rice and roti ..that's what is consumed in our country
