    Good to know since I've just been using a spray as UV protection but I doubt I used the right thing. So this is really helpful

      Glad it was helpful. And I use spray varnish too for UV protection. But whenever I use a spray varnish that is archival/removable for conservation purposes, I will apply this isolation coat :)

    I am still new to acrylics, but long time oil painter. What is different about an isolation coat vs just applying a layer of other acrylic medium over a finished painting? I.e. like GAC 100 or other?

    Thank you for this video. Beautiful painting! Would you use this coat if you're planning to resin instead of varnish? Do you need more than one coat? Thanks.

      Thank you! While I’ve never used resin, my understanding is an isolation coat can be used prior to using resin or varnish. I typically just do one coat. However if you notice an uneven sheen or other, it doesn’t hurt to add another layer or two to work out any imperfections:)

    Hello, David. Thank you for the great video. Have you ever painted over the isolation coat, before varnishing, to fix a mistake in the painting? I accidentally smeared an area of my painting during the first coating because I forgot that I had used Posca acrylic pens in that spot and they bleed if they get wet. Wondering if I can paint over that area before I put down my varnish.

      @@kelliecox-riede7432 hello! Great question. Sorry about the smear! Yes, you can absolutely paint over an isolation coat. And you can also apply an additional isolation coat on top of that before varnishing. Good luck!

    Hello, thanks for the tips! How long should you wait between isolation coats? I noticed I missed some spots but didn't want to go over it again while the first coat was wet. Thanks!

      @@tyanneconner1973 thank you! I’d say you should be good after an hour or so. Just make sure the first coat is dry. And remember to wait a minimum of 24 hrs for drying before varnishing. Good luck! :)

    I am going to apply an isolation coat to a small landscape painting of a mountain lake. It is about 12x18 on and painted on hardboard using atelier interactive acrylics. I was just wondering if doing two coats should I brush vertical then horizontal. Or just follow the contours of the landscape in both coats if I do two coats? And if one layer is best or two using golden isolation medium? Thanks for your opinion. ~Kenneth

      Hi Kenneth, great question. You would probably be ok with one layer following the contours of the landscape like you said. If for whatever reason you notice brushstrokes or uneven application, you can always add a second layer afterwards. Good luck! And happy painting!

    hi,, thanks for vi! What is a good brand of varnish to use? and is spray or paint on best?

    • @DavidWhitakerArt
      @DavidWhitakerArt  3 місяці тому +1

      @@peaceforchildren4303 I have typically used spray varnish, either Golden or Liquitex archival. Both seem great. I’m going to post a video soon on using Gamvar gloss liquid varnish! :)

    My acrylic painting has very minor textures from my brushstrokes since I'm a beginner painter. Would it hurt my artwork if i brush isolation coat onto it?
