Canon really outdone themselves with this bad boy... I mean how did they squeeze in the IS in there, AND the extra mm on the wide end!?
As a Sony shooter, I am jealous of this lens.

Sony has the 16-35 F4 and 2.8 G Master versions which both have OSS (IS for Canon users) so these options already exist for Sony users. Ya the extra mm wide is nice but it’s not a deal breaker

After having the built-in ND with the adapter using my 16-35 on the EOS R it would be hard to go back to threading NDs on the front of the lens again. That would be my only worry with switching to an RF lens.

Am I the only one who thinks that the 16-35 is sharper than the 15-35? Crispier punchier... that goes to the 16-35 based on what I see in those last portrait video tests :/ Look at his beard over the upper lip. look at the skin pores bellow his eye. which is sharper? Also the b-roll at 12:26'' comparing the 2 lenses. The 16-35 seems to me sharper with more contrast . I don't own any of the lenses and if I had to choose one, I would go for the IS but is it sharper? I wish I could see it like Matti

When I was looking at 9:35, I thought the older lens was better. Honestly idk if it even makes a difference, just allow my camera to do more. I want to have wifi streaming connectivity, I want the sensor protector like dslrs, automatic tethering over bluetooth with my phone (toggle a fn button to automatically send images to phone/ipad/computer), built in time lapse with color editor, articulating screen on every camera (except x100), eventually make it so the mic signal can be blue toothed to camera so mics could also implement a wireless connectivity,

  • @Pyromancer

Why would you turn off EIS? I don't understand. Whether you have IS in the lens or not.. seems like you're using the IS as justification to not use a premium feature of your camera in order to make the lens seem more worth it.. is there an actual benefit to turning EIS off? Am I missing something?

    • @Frytech
      @Frytech 4 роки тому

Electronic IS can be really shitty. Have you ever warp stabilized in software? Well EIS is kinda that. It can look really shitty with wobbling backgrounds etc.
Also, it's better to apply EIS afterwards in soft, because if you think about it, your PC will definitely have more processing power than a chip in your camera, so probably will even do a better job. Of course if a camera can actually record it's motion data and then feed it into stabilization software then you can achieve truly great results, like that GoPro stab software, but i'm not sure that's what Canon is doing here.

Will admit, These kinds of movements in the video are more for gimbal tests loool. Not lens stabilization. Lens stabilization shines the most when you’re steady to begin with. Using the lens while not moving your body but only panning gently or holding it still you notice massive reduction in those tiny jitter movements as mentioned. Which helps you nail those more dialed in shots. Walking and filming with IS on and OFF is not gonna make a big difference.

IBIS still has it imo. For vloggers who are price sensitive there are more affordable but still great camera/lens combos out there. Amazing technology - almost too perfect! One more point to add to the masses of excellent comments on this video is a subtle, but important point of English: the word 'just' is often incorrectly used as a substitute for 'only'. 'Just' either means a good verdict, or means barely, as in 'you can just see it', but does not mean 'only'. So you should use 'lens stabilization only', for example.

My eye says the EF 16-35 was sharper. I did prefer the lens stabilization in the RF 15-35 best. One advantage with the EF 16-35 is you can use it with a Metabones Speed Booster in 4K mode to reduce the apparent sensor cropping issue and as a side benefit increase the lens speed by one stop.

I love the RF lenses, I just wish they were cheaper! Also, you should make a short narrative about “character on phone in alley” that we see in all these videos. I feel like there’s a story there...

Matti , what are your C-Log settings? My 15-35 seems to be yielding soft results, do you up the sharpness to 3 or 4

"Jittery hands sorry Matt" awesome .. I have the 16-35 F4 with adapter on Eos r it would be nice to not have the added length. but for now shooting with what I have is the best thing.

Bradley McDuffie this lens is glued to my EOS R. IS is good and I don’t miss the lost stop for videos, f2.8 is often too shallow for a nice focus on moving subject. Though... if I had the money I think I’d get it 😂

I’m a canon fan and own a lot of glass and body’s. Is it worth pulling the trigger on a EOS R for my first mirrorless camera or waiting for the next line of mirrorless??? I kinda feel the mirrorless lenses are insanely priced and would be cheaper to just switch systems.‬

I don’t own a camera but hey if it’s matti’s video, then heck yeah.

I recently switched to Canon EOS R and I have the "old" Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, so I have to use the adapter. I feel like, because of the adapter, the field of view was cropped a little bit. This new lens is 15mm on the shorter side, which is not a huge difference with 16mm, but together with the previously mentioned, I wonder how much difference does it actually make. Have you tested that? I'd like to know :)

In the stabilization tests were you using enabled or enhanced for the camera electronic stabilization?

The EF 16-35mm f/4L IS is a wide angle lens with stabilisation that has been available for ages. So the RF lens is the second wide-angle zoom with IS for full-frame from Canon.

I have the RF 24-105 F4L and the front-tube rattles around like an old pick-up truck on a dirt road. Drives me crazy...🤪
Does this RF lens rattle too?

Really want this lens and camera. If it had 120p I would've bought it in a heartbeat. May get the 90D and try out the 120p with focus peaking with the Sigma 18-35 1.8, may learn how to manual focus better lol

I actually prefer the EF lens as you get to use that AWESOME ND adapter still.... Wish they would make that for EF to EF too
